That's Mavericks...

----------

I've been waiting for days for someone to bring up the copyright violation issues demonstrated in this ad and can't believe no one has brought them up yet.

Wha' you mean with the song? I think Apple's got it covered, mate. They talk pretty regularly with music labels you know, what with iTunes and all...

Maybe the poster is thinking the grandmother would sue the granddaughter for altering her rendition of the song, lol.

Last year's ad pummels this year's ad with a shovel. Repeatedly.

Wild guess. All you who like the Misunderstood ad are white (young?) males, just like the kid in the ad and definitely not like the people in the current ad.

actually, the iphone only took off when it became $199 as opposed to the $599 original asking price.

$199 was more in line with competitors.

Hmm I guess the original iPhone was $599? because I got the iphone 3G the following year for $199 with a contract and it's been like that since but it still doesn't take away the fact that the retail price of the iphone has always been $599.99 and up. the retail price of my 6+ is $850.00.

The Misunderstood ad had a nice surprise at the end. In this ad, it was pretty clear from the start what was going to happen. This ad isn't bad though. It's just hard to top Misunderstood.

I've come to the conclusion that everything good in the world is "hipster". The term is thrown around so often I really don't know what's not hipster anymore. But I guess if it replaces the offensive "That's gay" slur I can support the usage.

Everything is offensive to someone. I miss the days when someone would say they were offended and the other person just said, "Too bad."

cool stalking there buddy. im a recording engineer. professional.
I like the sound of the beats solo 2. it's one of the best if not the best on-ear headphones in existence.

look it up. inner fidelity, headfi, whathifi, whatever. if you actually know what you're talking about.

also, it's nice having earphones that everyone else will be listening on when you're mixing.

Oh boy that's a good one. ;)

Except "that's gay" is offensive since it's always used as a slander.

And? Is there a point to your hyperbolic opinion? So. Last year's ad worked for you. Good for Apple. This one, from all the positive comments I've been reading, clearly works for others. Good for Apple. Why does there need to be any comparison let alone such a silly one? It's not like two different companies made them and we're comparing, well, Apples and Oranges. This is Apples and Apples and both are doing a great job for that company.

I mean, do you some how feel offended? Betrayed that Apple decided to make a new ad rather than show the old one again? That's all I can figure from your comment which sounds like you're taking this personally.

As for how good this one is, I can only say that I've shown it to about two dozen people so far. Everyone, and I mean each and every person I've shown this ad to has gotten teary-eyed. Many have blurted out, at the end, something like: "I miss my mom!" Clearly, it has an effect. And funny, but not one of those people have said: "Wow, I liked last year's better..."

I thought last year's ad was great, and I think this was was great. They're both amazingly good and Apple deserves kudos for both--and if you can't see that...your loss.

Oh. OK then. Next time I sing a copywrited song for my grandma and put it on my iPad I'll just run it by past my Law Firm who can work out the deal with the Label. Do you think a should work out a deal to pay extra so I can post it to YouTube? Or just let it get taken down by Google and hope I don't get sued?

You might think I'm joking. I am not. The Labels, and the Law, take this sort of thing Very Seriously.

I watched it. It's a cute ad. But I have my limits on "feel good" stuff and I've already made my holiday donations and food-drive runs. So I'm already full-up this season.

I actually found the "making of" video to be MUCH more informative and inspirational than the ad itself. There's nothing wrong with the ad, believe me...but I find it hard to get all emotional about a construct that somebody made. Yeah, I was never a sucker for "Little House on the Prairie" or "The Waltons" either.

Lest anybody think I'm a Grinch, I have similar limits on "feel bad" stuff, so I fast-forward through any ads featuring abused animals, actors asking for any kind of donations, or anything/anyone who pleads me to "help feed the children for only 59 cents per day!" To me they're all scams.

Wait a minute. Maybe I really AM a Grinch! ;)

how about you lower the price to make it not such a hard decision to choose iphone over top line android competitors

There's iPhones at every price point, including free, so I'm confused by your request.

I feel like about 5 years ago Apple used to make commercials that compared them to other products or companies. Now they moved away from that and grew up and started focusing on their own products and their capabilities and tools that they make available to everyone. They don't even acknowledge the existence of the other companies. Everyone else is still working on the comparisons and bashing Apple products which in turns becomes free advertising for Apple.

The Get a Mac campaign was brilliant. I don't know why so many people have a problem with it and how they compared to Microsoft and Windows. They only stated facts, unlike what competitors of Apple are doing now with their campaigns, especially when they knock users.... Apple never does that.

This ad will always be special to me since I have transferred a countless number of these instantaneous type recordings for families. The ones that were sent home during WWII are especially heartwarming. :)

You can check out a gallery of home recording discs on my work website here: http://www.cuttingarchives.com/home-recording-discs/

...and by all means, please feel free to contact me if you happen to have any old family recordings like these and want to save them from vanishing forever.

Happy Holidays!

Oh boy that's a good one.

Haha here we go. Give them a chance before you write them off. For $140 there aren't a lot of better options
Sure they're bass heavy. But for seeing how your mix will sound on mainstream phones, these are great
Lots different to the solo hd

Yup

"Free" but you're tied on a 'max' plan
In Canada, not all plans are equal. A 1gb/month plan will cost more for an iPhone than an android. Whether it be the 5c or a 6 plus.

----------

Off topic but I agree that when I mix audio or edit video I always do a test with consumer grade gear. If it only sounds/looks good on my studio monitors that means little when most folks are viewing on a horribly color or sound inaccurate device. Is it going to change my final mix substantially? Doubtful, but it lets the client/me know what to expect and I can make changes if necessary.

It's an android, there's your problem.

$50 says you haven't properly used a modern high end android.
It's solid.

I don't understand why people are so ignorant and dismissive. Yes beats has a bad name. Yes android has a bad name. But no one actually takes the time to know what they're talking about nowadays before laying judgement. Instead everyone falls back to that bad name and that's it.

.14 BTC that I have.

Lollipop is not impressive. On an LG G3, A Nexus 7 (three of them). The only device where it was decent was on a newer nexus device.

It's the best android version - ever, but it has a long ways to catch up to the iPhone. You're argument can equally be interpreted as ignorant and dismissive (or insert label).

yeah i dont believe you haha. i have a nexus 5 and a 2013 nexus 7 and they're both super smooth and seamless, sure, there are areas where lollipop aren't consistent, especially on the tablet, but so was/is iOS 8. there are odd bugs here and there, but that is also present on ios.

in short, android is no longer a 'problem'

It was for me, I tried Lollipop and it wasn't smooth and seamless enough for me. I'm sure there are others who share this viewpoint.

Android is still a buggy problem

It's almost as if some of the animations are missing compared to the newer nexus devices running Lollipop.

I'm a head-fi member. Beats is generally derided on that forum. I find it interesting how people often say they're 'professional' to end debate on matters. There are many professionals whose work are no better than monkeys.

i only brought it up because it was brought up on there.
yes they are generally derided. but the solo 2 is an exception. look deeper on there.
check Tyll's (innerfidelity) review. That's what swayed me.

So laughably hipster

Wow! Such original misuse of the hipster-card. Recording audio has always been such hipsterious activity.
