Apple today shared a first look video of upcoming Apple TV+ series "Little Voice," a coming of age drama created by J.J. Abrams, Sara Bareilles, and Jessie Nelson.

A love letter to the diverse musicality of New York starring Brittany O'Grady, Sean Teale, Colton Ryan, Shalini Bathina, Kevin Valdez, Phillip Johnson Richardson and Chuck Cooper, "Little Voice" follows Bess King, a uniquely talented performer struggling to fulfill her dreams while navigating rejection, love, and complicated family issues. Featuring original music by Grammy and Tony Award nominee, Sara Bareilles, this is a story about finding your authentic voice--and the courage to use it.
The TV show, which is produced by J.J. Abrams' Bad Robot Productions, will feature original music by artist Sara Barellies. J.J. Abrams is an executive producer on the series.

"Little Voice" is set to premiere on Apple TV+ on July 10, which is the same day Apple plans to release "Greyhound," a WWII movie that stars Tom Hanks as a naval officer given command Navy destroyer of Greyhound in the Battle of the Atlantic.

"Little Voice" will join other Apple TV+ dramas like "The Morning Show," "Little America," "See," "For All Mankind," "Defending Jacob," and more, with a full list of Apple TV+ shows both released and in the works available in our Apple TV+ content guide.

They need to make something like Sherlock or GOT. Something that creates lot of buzz. Else Apple TV+ is just not going to work. With Netflix on one side and Disney plus on the other. The sad challenge that Apple TV+ faces is that good shows are not enough. Very good shows are still not enough. They need mega hit shows with crazy fan followings. And one is not enough. They need a 2 of these before people start taking this seriously.

As much as people hate some of the shows, I gotta hand it to Apple for trying to continue producing content for Apple TV+ instead of simply buying an existing catalog of content, which would be the easy way out.
Yeah that's good, but it'll take many years, if not a decade of producing your own content if you want to have an attractive offering... Just look at Netflix/Amazon. Took quite a while for them to have enough good original content, but they also have a lot of licensed content.

And even still, sometimes people just wanna watch some older classics.

How are they shooting all of this stuff in the age of COVID-19 shelter in place, social distancing, and mask wearing?
Well, they don't follow the rules.
You remember, do you?

Here’s to the crazy ones, the misfits, the rebels, the troublemakers, the round pegs in the square holes… the ones who see things differently — they’re not fond of rules

So if there is going to be a mass infection, then we will know right away why it happened.

I really can't see Apple TV ever amounting to much with content like this. There's a reason why Netflix is so popular. They make mainstream, mass appeal shows with gigantic budgets. When Apple have something on the level of Stranger Things, The Crown, Black Mirror, Ozark etc, and they manage to get an Apple TV app onto every smart TV then perhaps people will notice it exists.

Speaking of Apple TV apps, my LG B7 OLED doesn't have an Apple TV app, as I apparently need a newer model of TV. To run an app?! Of course my TV does have apps for Disney+, Netflix, Amazon etc, and they all manage to run on my ancient TV at a smooth 60fps.

The makers of Sherlock and GoT didn’t wake up one day and realise they needed to make something with a lot of buzz. It took decades of effort and a lot of luck. Anybody entering the TV market needs to know that and have a lot of time and money on their hands.

I must be odd because I only care about original content. All the old stuff I either own, have seen already (and once was enough) or didn‘t care about then, don‘t care about now. In this regard, Apple TV+ is really quite good, actually, and probably even the best bang for the buck.

Personal opinion time...

To me, AppleTV+ came out gangbusters. All their initial shows I really enjoyed at varying levels. Since then it has started to fizzle. I was so looking forward to Amazing Stories but for next season they should rename it Boring Stories, The Loop over on Amazon was closer to what I was hoping Amazing Stories to be. Since then all their other shows have just not interested me at all. When they wander off into cultural lecturing I'm even less interested...

I do not expect every show to cater to my tastes, that'd be silly, but for so many whiffs since Servant, I'm beginning to wonder if there are any new shows that are going to appeal to me. I'm cautiously optimistic about the upcoming Foundation series, I was excited but after what I saw them do to Amazing Stories it got downgraded so I don't suffer another disappointment.

Some shows in ATV are ok but it’s mostly niche shows.
they should do something big with lots of characters, a grand story are and big cinematic universe. They have the budget.

All the shows I have seen on ATV are not very ambitious. Some are fun to watch but nothing special.

I’d only starting hearing people talk about Game of Thrones somewhere into the second season, maybe later. I only picked up Breaking Bad by the time season 2 was wrapping up and it turned out to be one of my favourite shows. In an era of streaming, hits tend to take off well into their production. By the time they have a couple of seasons, people start binging on the back episodes, start telling their friends about this hidden gem and boom!

I can see a few potential shows like that already on AppleTV+. For All Mankind has all the ingredients. A compelling storyline, incredible acting, high production value and an open ended story that can go on for several seasons.

Hits only very rarely were hits from the first episodes. In fact, I really can’t think of one. Black Mirror sat as a complete unknown with a small subculture fan base for years before Netflix decided to release new episodes and push it. Now, it’s the Black Mirror. AppleTV+ is 6 months old. Give it a minute.

I am not saying it won’t succeed and I am actually hoping it would eventually succeed. My point is based on competing subscription services and their offerings. “Why subscribe to one more TV service, that too a politically correct one. I already have Disney for my family TV requirements”. is what most people will think. A couple of break out hits is a minimum requirement for people to consider subscribing.

There it is. "Politically correct." I was wondering when that one would pop up.

Apple TV+ isn't "politically correct". People are still digging up a long-clarified note that the service isn't interested in sex and violence for the sake of sex and violence.
