I find the design a bit retro? I guess they want to be able to patent the round screen corners and camera strip at the top. But... round screen corners for viewing and editing photos, watching movies?? Seems bizarre. You pay to watch something and you can't see the corners?!

I feel this is patent based design, rather than UX based.

The cellular Apple Watch 3 actually got me really interested! Until someone said you need to own an iPhone. I would defo buy one as a music player and notification device if it didn't have to pair with an iPhone.

The demo where to Craig Federighi goes to open the phone with Face ID and it doesn't work and he's like whoops says it all

That was because the phone was rebooted if you look closely. Passcode is required after the reboot. Nothing wrong with the Face ID technology.

First iPhone 10 didn’t cooperate when Craig tried to unlock it. He had to deftly move to the Backup phone. Apple it in; Kudos to Apple for doing that.
Kudos?! The jig was up when he did that. Sliding up is not as reliable as a Touch ID home button!

I think this is the classic "Steve would never have done it" release of the iPhone.

They got ambitious thinking they could do edge-to-edge by the time this released...they can only do skinny bezels. They thought they'd have touch-id under the glass to go with face-id, and it wasn't ready. Then there's the continued camera bump (admittedly hard to fix), and, of course, the awful--stylistically--notch.

Steve would have waited until it was ready...however, Apple is a much better company overall with Cook, even if their products are not nearly as special.

yeah the elephant in that room was certainly when he went to login with faceid and it failed... huge blunder that will continue to bite them going forward.

The ears/notch are the worst idea Apple has put out. I am shocked it made it to the actual product. It sounds like one of the early ideas that should have been killed in the idea room.

I was going to look past it based on the leaks thinking this would just be a homescreen/in-app thing, but seeing in live in the Keynote where it was persistent in all your videos/photos...WTF Apple??? There's going to be a hole in all of our photos and videos?

They could have easily just blacked out the top, and included the wireless signal, etc. with a black background with white font, and cut off photos and videos there. But they had to be "innovative" with a full screen display and show off that they went "edge-to-edge."

I swear, this is just a huge joke by Samsung on Apple. "Sure...we can supply you with OLED (trying to hide laughter)"

Agreed completely! It beggars belief that the notch will be covering our photos and videos. Very disappointing.

Another thing with FaceID is that they always show unlocking to be a 2-step process: You have to look at the phone to unlock it, then you have to swipe up to get to the home screen. With TouchID, you can just press the home button and it will automatically unlock and go to the home screen.

Will you be able to just look at the phone and automatically have it unlock and go to home screen in one pass? Because if not, this is a much slower and inconvenient process.

That top, front notch it has going on definitely ain't beautiful.
Wait a few years. Also, it's functional. I'd rather have it than not have it and have the status bar take up additional space. It's also neat that you can pull down on the left side for notifications and the right side for control center.

What annoys me are some of the things showing it covering up full screen content such as photos, videos, and game controls. They need to stop that crap right now.

I thought I could get over the side bezels, but finding it pretty hard to overlook that for an "all glass" front. I think Samsung did it better with the curved screen to give it a more beautiful "all glass" look.

Nonsense phone. Basically all the crap Apple said people didn't need - from Qi wireless charging to Amoled - wait for it, Face unlock!!!!. At an insane price.

Oh, and "Bionic Neural Processor" "AirPower"... really? that is what you going with?. Attack of the 12 year old marketing. This garbage is for the people who pay $15 dollars for a hotdog in Time-Sqr

Good luck with that.
A10 Fusion
A11 Bionic Neural
A12 Tesseract
A13 ????

iPhone X is sooo expensive...

And yet here I am with my credit card. I've always had a soft spot for the iPhone. The original iPhone was the first Apple product I ever purchased, although I had been using Macs in school before that, and the Motorola ROKR doesn't count.

Apple won't keep those bezels on the regular iPhone forever. But the iPhone X will always be a step ahead, and I'm totally down to pay that. I've predicted this on the forum for a couple years now, and said I'd be willing to pay $200-300 more to get it. The 256GB iPhone 8 is $849. The 256GB iPhone X is $1149. That's at the top end but I'll pay it. It's necessary to charge more for the iPhone X because they can't yet produce these things at scale. By pricing it higher they artificially limit the market and that allows them to source new, advanced parts in lower quantities (10s of millions vs. 100s). This will benefit the iPhone overall in the long-run as these advancements make it downstream to the base models. Apple was limiting themselves due to their own success. This should help with that while also making them more money in the process, while us gadget lovers are also happy. It's a win-win-win, just most people don't realize it yet.

I probably would buy the iPhone X if it started at 128GB, but 64GB? Come on. I have the money, but looks like it's the normal 8 for me. I just can't justify the extra dollars for a edge to edge screen and the dot-projector/infrared-cam... maybe when I see those colors.

Edit: Here I am 20 minutes later trying talking myself into it... I do need a new digital camera of some variety. At least I have a month to either rationalize it or not.

Huh, they kept the faceID snafu.

come on, "it learns your face", and adopts to it as it changes, right? so if you've got beat up by some punks, it will not unlock your phone as the changes were to rapid...
i just don't understand apple. they had touchid in their whole ecosystem, now they seem to drop it. that's snafu as well.

I just can't justify the extra dollars for a edge to edge screen and the cavity-infrared.... but maybe the colors will change my mind (graphic designer). I'd love that 8 plus camera, but as a 5'7'' guy, the plus size just feels garishly large in my hands.

You'll buy the X anyways ;)
