I know TikTok and influencer marketing is like, the way to do things now, I get it

But something rubs me the wrong way when I see an official Apple promo piece featuring the cringe TikTok TTS voice

I don’t know, it just feels like they used to be better than this…

Love the new hardware tho

24inch is too small. It is a display size of the last decade.
in your opinion sure - and thats totally fine each to their own.

So, buy the studio display, or other larger cheaper alternatives and pair it with mac mini. Job done.

24" is more than enough for most desktops.

I am starting to think that the iMac may be getting another redesign soon, it is strange to me that they have not given it an update.

Still waiting on the larger iMac.
Seems like we're running out of stops on the "release it later" train for a 27 inch replacement. I'm guessing they will, but we'll see.

Rumors for iMac's (for sure the 24's are ready for refreshing) are next fall or early 2024 at this point I believe, hopefully Apple brings it back (the Mac Studio and Display are no where near what the 27 iMac's were in pricing, much higher price points) so there is definitely a hole in the market if they want to fill it now that supply chain pressures start letting up.

Same! I keep thinking each announcement will finally bring a decent iMac but it never happens.

I’m starting to think I just need to give up on the iMac concept and go for the new Mac mini with a monitor.
I agree, the end or very limited iMac offering's in the future. The reason, the laptop technologies are making the need for both a laptop and a desktop a thing of the past. If one needs both the mini will fill the need nicely for the desktop. I suspect todays laptops will meet the majority of users needs in one portable unit.

Yea I still have a late 2014 27inch iMac and it runs great but cannot be updated, and as a result, starting to miss out on new features.

As you say it definitely comes down to personal preferences. I have always been a huge fan of the clean, minimalist design on the all in one iMac but the 24inch version is just too small.

But think might just go with new Mac mini… any suggestions on a big monitor that would pair well with it? Not sure I want to pay the $s for an Apple display.
For sure, the clean look is great of the iMac. I'm on the 2017 i7 one so hoping to get another couple of years out of it at least.

Before I took on a bigger mortgage recently, I was looking to get a 16" MacBook and pair it up with a couple of Dell Ultrasharps (wasn't set on size but considering a huge 42" one and run it at native resolution). I've had excellent Dell monitors in the past, and they're the favourite among graphic designers where I work. Pretty much as good as Apple monitors in their colours.

Yet another product announcement by Apple where they mention or show No Man's Sky yet it still isn't available for Mac. Very weird.
Dude I was thinking the same thing. They have the audacity to suggest Mac is great for gaming and then demo a game you literally can't play on Mac lol. I think it was supposed to be released for iPad as well by now. I have yet to see any updates from the company either.

Not seeing Tim Cook at all was surprising. I know this isn't a full-on keynote but still the presentation was very similar.

This was well done, I enjoyed the work from John and the "other" Tim!
Tim Cook not being present tells me a lot about how the company is being conducted. The CEO probably had more important stuff to do than to participate in the video with the first launch of a product in three months.

I was surprised not to see him but maybe all the recordings were done when he was in Japan last month? He was gone for roughly 2 weeks or so.

Still, Tim Cook would not have to be necessarily at Apple Campus to make the video. Or he could have recorded his part before the trip. Tim Cook usually makes a generic presentation anyway telling how "excited" he is and says nothing about the product itself. Then he just delegates any in-depth explanation to somebody else saying that "X is going to tell you all about it".

At CES, Samsung demonstrated a 5k 27 inch display and Dell a 6k 32 inch display. If cost is a factor, you may want to wait until those products are released so you can see their cost (not reported yet) and whether it is satisfactory for you.

I have a Studio Display, I like it because of the 5k, color and contrast. The speakers and camera are not good. I wish they did not have these and reduced the cost of the display. The price is hard to stomach but once I got used to the 'retina' display in other devices, I was unable to turn back. I tried several Dell and LG 4k displays >=27 inch and did not like. Not nearly high enough resolution for me.

I also have two LG 4k 24 inch displays that I picked up from Best Buy for $279 each. I like them. Not quite 'retina' 4k but decent so I kept them and use for accessory displays. However, with you being used to your 27 inch iMac, I am not sure you would care for the smaller size and decreased resolution.

To each their own.

The hyperbole from Apple keeps getting better and better. Now we have “next generation” chips that allow “next level workflows.”
UPDATE: Tim Cook says these new devices have “game-changing performance” that “push the boundaries of what’s possible.”

Thanks for this!! I will definitely take a look at the new Samsung and LG displays… I had already been looking at the Samsung M8 32inch

Not impressed the M1 Max is still over kill
I think what's impressive is that the original M1 (for me, anyway) is still overkill. My 2020 M1 MBP runs great! Weird to think this thing is 2½ years old already, and there's a few generations of faster chips than this? Awesome! I'm super impressed they're still making these things faster and faster.

Waiting to hear more about the 27" 5K Viewfinity S9. I'm a photographer, and I code, and I need to retire my 2012 27" iMac.

I want retina. I want accurate color. As displays move to DCI-P3 and HDR, I need to be able to see and make content made for these displays, so I need wide gamut and a decent HDR implementation. I should want the Apple Display, but it doesn't work for me.

My regular job (coding) gave me a cheap Dell i5 laptop to use and is very strict about company IP never leaving their systems, and no personal equipment connecting to their network... so I'm stuck with using the laptop. It has HDMI. Lots of stuff has HDMI. Neglecting a fairly standard port like HDMI means I can't buy the Apple Display. I'm not buying a monitor dongle to use a standard port. On the other hand, nearly every other display is deficient in some way like color accuracy, resolution, text clarity, until you get into $5K displays. A decent monitor w/ retina resolution can't really be so niche, can it?

The Viewfinity S9 specs look good. Price and reviews pending, it's what I'll get unless it too has a fatal flaw.

Up until today, the HDMI ports on Macs didn't support 5K displays. If Apple had added HDMI to their 5K display, it would have led to half its purchasers confused as to why it didn't work properly. And if your employer's cheap Dell doesn't support >4K output, you're still stuck. Honestly I'd go for a big OLED TV, amazing picture, wide gamut, HDR can be accurate if calibrated.
