That stage light option never seems to work that good for me.. The results are always awful!.. Most people I know don't even wanna mess with it due to similar results.. I'd love a good tutorial, cause I'm sure there's a way to nail it..

The feature never really works. I stood shortly before ordering the iPhone X. Then my uncle dropped by and wanted me to setup his iPhone camera. I thought it was the 5SE due to its weird and not so esthetic form factor. So long. Anyway, the camera software totally got in my way and that lighting feature is as bad for snapshots as portrait mode. You literally cannot fotograph living things unless they can sit still for at least 10 seconds. The funniest thing was the face unlock feature which would work 4 out of six times. The there was the home button replacement with swiping from top corner. That was appalling at best for phone this long.

I immediately asked my provider to cancel my iPhone X with 256 GB and send me an 8 Plus.

I will never buy this phone and now finally can fully understand why they launched the 8 along with the X. And not just the X.

It is as bad as the anniversary Mac they once out out

After one month with the X I find TouchID on the iPad frustrating (and clunky), go imagine.
After 3 weeks with the X I got used to FaceID. After returning it and going back to 7+ I got used to TouchID.

My point is, neither technology stood out to be dramatically better than the other but both technologies have flaws that make you jealous of the other one. And that is the reason why people are championing both sides and arguing out their opinions.

Both technologies work, but FaceID should have been an additional security method rather than a replacement to something that still hasn't reached its full potential.

I disagree with you on regarding iPad is not a computer. I can tell you my iPad Pro (absolutely love this device) does 90% of what my MacBook can do. My only gripe with my iPad has to do with files app. Okay I have few, iTunes on iPad - where I can backup without iCloud, access HD, access dmg protected files, ability to use mouse, and office for iOS is still limited, for example you cannot do mail merger - may be to do with files app? If Apple can implement it, I don’t see why you would need a computer? That would be the day!
Your iPad does less than 10% of what your Mac or PC does. It just does 90% of what you happen to do. A tablet is not a computer. It's a toy best suited for light media consumption.

You’re just plucking numbers. Please do tell me the limitations?

When it works (and I'd say it works as intended less than 50% of the times) Stage Lighting outputs some stunning, vibrant portraits.

I'm not trying to be smart here, but is this an example of Studio Lighting "Working" or "Failing". Because that looks like it was done in MS-Paint. The heavy flat cut along your left cheek and right side of hair. And the top of the hair is just jagged lines with no blending. And the black and white seems to change it to an low bitrate monochrome. Not to mention your face is (kinda) in focus but your hair is Faux-keh into a blur.

Again, not trying to be a jerk because I get it. A lot of times we take these photos, admire the perfection on our "huge" 5in phones and then post it to Facebook or print it to 8x10. And then when you see how it looks on a large screen (or small printout) the flaws jump out and start chomping on your eyeballs. The photo you posted is huge and on my computer i can see everything.

You probably don't need a MacBook to begin with and I hope you didn't have a MacBook Pro too just to browse the internet and post photos on social media. Obviously iPad is crippled for serious computer work maybe not the iPad itself but rather the apps are is crippled in features. Until those limitations exist then iPad is just a fun tablet to use and can do SOME laptop and desktop can do.

The important question here is how much they pay that guy to shave his beard?!

Stage Lighting just blows up the light on the center of your face, from all the photos I've seen. Awful. Like the ads though!

For me, to name a few:
Photoshop
Illustrator
Sketch
Ableton Live

All 3D modeling and renderes like Blender, Cinema 4D - InDesign, Final Cut Pro, torrents, etc.

Just saw a 60-sec spot (I had yet seen) on Monday Night Football (streaming on Apple TV via ESPN app) that did the best job yet of presenting the X’s top differentiators in a way that average consumers could process.
Well executed.

I wonder if the "Adapts to your Face" model is Norway's Enok Groven. Looks like it could be. Perhaps when FaceID trickles down to an iPhone I'd pay for, I'll give it a whirl. Until such time, that's nice but not a necessity for me.

How about shopping?
12-02-17: For the first time, more people will do their holiday shopping on mobile than on desktop
From the link above in today's news: "More than half of visits to shopping sites — 54 percent — will come from smartphones and tablets, surpassing desktop computers for the first time, according to Adobe Analytics’ annual suite..."

What you consider as "best suited" is all part of your own limited imagination.

By the way, the world recognizes a tablet as computer:
Dictionary.com:
Tablet:
Also called tablet computer. a very thin, portable computer, usually battery-powered, having a touchscreen as the primary interface and input device and lacking a physical keyboard and lid.

Miriam Webster:
a
or tablet computer : a mobile computing device that has a flat, rectangular form like that of a magazine or pad of paper, that is usually controlled by means of a touch screen, and that is typically used for accessing the Internet, watching videos, playing games, reading electronic books, etc.

Wiki:
A tablet computer, commonly shortened to tablet, is a portable PC, typically with a mobile operating system and LCD touchscreen display processing circuitry, and a rechargeable battery in a single thin, flat package. Tablets, being computers, do what other personal computers do, but lack some I/O capabilities that others have.

More examples on Google.

You can try and redefine what a tablet is all you want, but the definition will remain in your own echo chamber.

Sounds like user error across the board. I don't have any of these problems with my X.

Most accurate assessment I've seen.

Personally, I either love or hate Face ID. I consistently like Touch ID.

Apple this afternoon shared three new ads on its YouTube channel, all of which are quick clips that focus on select iPhone X features like Portrait Lighting and Face ID.

The first video, "Opens with a Glance," displays the iPhone X with the words "Introducing the most unforgettable magical password ever created. Your face," before showing off a series of faces to demonstrate how the iPhone X can be unlocked with facial recognition.

A second video, "Adapts to Your Face," was previously available on Apple's Canadian YouTube channel. It's designed to highlight the machine learning techniques used to allow Face ID to adapt to beards, hats, sunglasses, and other facial changes.

The third video, "Introducing Portrait Lighting," demonstrates the Portrait Lighting feature that's available on the iPhone X. Portrait lighting is designed to allow users to adjust the lighting in an image using depth mapping techniques, and it is also available on iPhone 8 Plus.

Today's iPhone X videos follow several iPhone X feature ads that Apple shared in late November. Those previous videos focused on Face ID and Animoji, demonstrating specific Face ID features like its ability to work in the dark and adapt to makeup.

Apple will use these short 15-second ads to show off iPhone X features on television, on the web, and on social networks like Instagram.

I love the portrait modes, have used them quite a bit with my X, especially when taking pics of my grandkids. The pics come out so phenomenal!

As for Face ID, it's hit or miss with me. Most of the time it works. It DOES NOT adapt to my face when I take off my glasses and I made sure to set up the initial Face ID both WITH and WITHOUT glasses, but it only recognizes me WITH my glasses on. If I take them off, forgetaboutit.
