Arguably still an unneeded distraction for upper management.

Give me a break. They hire a guy responsible for content (seems they hired some well regarded ex Sony guys recently) and they're responsible for it all. Upper management can do their stuff unhindered outside some dependencies in how the content is delivered, which wouldn't come from that division anyway. That would be the perview of whoever responsible for the distribution aspect of content: hardware, software, etc.

So the most crucial thing about this is and I really hope they make clear with warning messages is that they aren't usually driving the cars, they have filmed with their car on trailers, and other times when they have driven they are surrounded by police cars, filming crew, etc in a very controlled environment.

I'm slightly worried we're going to see lots of copy cats start to appear where people are genuinely being unsafe.

Don't worry, no one is going to copy this.

If it was consistent with mentioning pairs but it's not, there are single artists.

I think its because Corden is also the producer and animator and this is to show he'll be in the show too (and with whom). For the rest, they probably don't want to reveal the pairings right away. The Lebron one will probably a ratings gangbuster and I'd expect that's why Corden wanted to handle it personally. I wouldn't be surprised if Corden is a big Will Smith fan.

Perhaps it is too early to judge. However, this looks a hell of a lot better than planet of the apps.

I've tried getting into that one, and I just can't. The latest trailer on this, actually, has me interested.

Time will tell...

Purchasing and then ruining a show is not going to get them out of last place in the entertainment industry.

What I want out of Apple is an updated Mac Pro proper tower and a MacBook Pro with some decent ports. Things we use to have.

Do.not.need.TV.show.

Isn't Carpool Kareoke why Apple's working on self driving car tech?

People: "We want back group notifications and 3D Touch multitasking!"
Apple: "Here's Carpool Karaoke lol"

Because 3D Touch and Carpool have any relation whatsoever? Totally two separate entities here.

"Featured celebrities will include Will Smith and James Corden; Miley, Noah, Billy Ray and the entire Cyrus family; Shakira and Trevor Noah; Game of Thrones stars Sophie Turner and Maisie Williams; Queen Latifah and Jada Pinkett Smith; John Legend, Alicia Keys and Taraji P. Henson; LeBron James and James Corden; and more."

Wow, a list of people I would pay to NOT hear singing in a car.

The fact that they're driving in cars is just the gimmick part, which James Corden and Jerry Seinfeld have used. The main reason for watching is the celebrities in each episode.

Heck, I'll watch Family Game Night, The Late Show, Family Feud, a Dateline special, Driving in Cars with Comedians.... anything as long as I get to see a favorite celebrity and learn more about them.

I'll pick and choose episodes. Maisie Williams? Yes. Queen Latifah? No. James Corden? Yes. Will Smith? Yes. Miley Cyrus? No. It's lazy to say you won't watch something because one certain person is on. You're allowed to not watch that episode, but watch others.
I think the gimmick originated with the Bohemian Rhapsody scene in the AMC Pacer in "Wayne's World" but I'm not sure. I just know that's the first time I saw people going nuts singing in a car like that.

Honestly, I keep hearing ads for Planet of the Apps on Beats1 and I want to throw up every time I hear the ad.

Now we have to deal with another low quality show?

VOMIT!

Not my cup of tea, but I'm not that big on celebrities. Hopefully this finds its target group. I've been quite happy with "Planet of the Apps" being a hobbyist app developer myself.

My original post seems to have been removed. I assume I didn't say enough, so I'll say more. Isn't there supposed to be an episode with Chester Bennington?

Wow, being the greatest troll around here, I'm far from qualifying for this...
(still waiting to see Tim Cook entering...when was that?)

How much are these entertainers being paid for this activity? We know they are not doing this for free and for the fun of it.
Mere millions.
Being cute, funny and well-humored under such circumstances isn't that evident, and with the risk of Eddy Cue jumping over them, they're worth every penny.

All those warning labels seem to be a US thing.
Other people seem to survive without them just fine and I guess Americans could handle it as well.

Afraid not. We have a naive belief that we're invincible or immortal. Last week, a teenage girl was live streaming her car ride and crashed. One of her two passengers was killed. Get this: the surviving passenger blames social media, rather than the driver (who reportedly was intoxicated), for the reckless behavior!

Give an idiot a gun or a smartphone, and he'll do something stupid with it.
