Apple today released two new 10-second Apple Watch Series 2 fitness-oriented ads that once again position the device as "the gift of go."

"Go Surf" shows an Apple Watch Series 2 being unboxed and used for surfing, while "Go Ride" shows the device being used for urban cycling.

The ads will likely appear on TV in the United States, and possibly elsewhere, alongside "Go Play," "Go Run," "Go Out," and "Go Dance" ads shared last week.

If you're thinking about notifications and mini-apps, you're utterly missing the point of surfing.

On the other hand, the sport has been used to market just about everything - from cars to powdered beverages, so why not? It's a hack move, but advertising isn't art (something I would never say openly to my marketing peeps).

these are misleading ads

1st no surfer ive seen wears an apple watch while surfing. have you tried using the screen when wet?

regarding the cycling - where are the data screens for cadence, power, speed sensor, etc.?

Of course a comment like this must appear.

1st. They don't show it being used in the water, and the S2 actually has a screen that responds fairly well when wet.

2nd. It has a "speed sensor" via accelerometers and GPS, and no, it doesn't have cadence or power because that's physically impossible for a watch.

Also, it's meaningless, who cares? It doesn't tell anything!

I wish I could use one of these things for my fitness tracker. But, since I don't own an iPhone the device is not super useful.

It does? So why did I have to grab a towel to dry off my finger and the watch itself just to shut off the damn alarm in the shower this morning?

Really? I guess I have had a much better experience. If you don't get it the first time, maybe tap again and see what happens.

Are you serious?

Do those look like serious or elite cyclists, you know like the ones in the ad with the led lights on their spokes making circles of light at night and with more lights on the frame, who would be into monitoring cadence and power.

Exactly how is the cycling ad misleading? Who is being mislead and how are they being mislead from what the ad is showing?

With respect to water... My watch works fine when the screen is wet. And my friend who's into masters swimming has no issues with her watch while swimming.

It's true an Apple Watch is a great Christmas present. My daughter put an aluminum Apple Watch rose Gold on her letter to Santa, and "Santa-Apple" told me that the earliest he'll be able to give my daughter her Christmas present is January 4... I'll have to tell her that Santa probably got stuck in someone's chimney...

Seriously Apple?

still think the Apple watch is worth what you change for it?

Go Fish.

Definitely worth it for me. It's been on my wrist at least 12 hours a day for about the last year and a half.

Rather than listening to all the typical negative buh-blah on MR from people who didn't own one, I wanted to see for myself and bought the Sport model to check it out first-hand, believing there was still achance it wouldn't work for me and I'd simply return it because I hadn't had a watch on wrist for ten years.

After a week I was sold. No way it was going back. Valuable for everyday fitness activities (cycling, hiking, gym) and for dealing with messages, email, calendar reminders, calls, Siri, etc without having to fish out my phone. And it's an excellent watch for time as well.

So tell me about your Apple Watch personal experiences?

Pretty nice ads - like the surfing one best.. might just be me though but it still feels a bit weird to have a gadget like this on me while going for a swim

As it stands the Apple Watch is an extension of your iPhone but with limited application with poor battery life. I know many people whom have sent theirs back.

Difficult when you can't get your hands on one (notably any 42mm, series 2, or SS).
One of basic principles of marketing 101, is place.
A product has to be available to purchase at location.
Surely, Mr. "Logistics" Cook should have forecasted the increased seasonal demand.
