Contrary to popular trend, I want LESS notifications and info in my life.

Your post really struck a cord with me. I have been feeling the same for a long time. Up until a few years ago technology was created to help, to make things easier, simpler or to make tasks just disappear. Get me more time to step away from the computer.
These days I find myself being bombarded with notifications, stats and other things which are just not helpful. They steal focus and add to stress. Like yourself I'm trying to disable as much as possible, turning off all notifications and it's somewhat helping.

More to the point though, if you're fitness tracking your surf then you really need to stop and have a look at yourself.

Definitely worth it for me. It's been on my wrist at least 12 hours a day for about the last year and a half.

Rather than listening to all the typical negative buh-blah on MR from people who didn't own one, I wanted to see for myself and bought the Sport model to check it out first-hand, believing there was still achance it wouldn't work for me and I'd simply return it because I hadn't had a watch on wrist for ten years.

After a week I was sold. No way it was going back. Valuable for everyday fitness activities (cycling, hiking, gym) and for dealing with messages, email, calendar reminders, calls, Siri, etc without having to fish out my phone. And it's an excellent watch for time as well.

So tell me about your Apple Watch personal experiences?

Like you, I hadn't wore a watch for over 10 years. While it Apple focuses a lot on its fitness features, I wouldn't want to be without it for much, much more that it does. It just makes the iPhone 10x better. I can tell it to remind me about something in whenever. I can control music. I can cancel a call by covering it. I can quickly check my calendar. It taps me when I'm getting directions. I can pay for stuff. For Apple users, it just makes life better in many ways, all day. I'm still using the first edition, by the way. They should make a commercial that has Siri telling the watch, "You complete me," after listing a dozen impactful things it helps you do better. Haha.

Go Switch or Go, fire Cook
Too many bugs in all products, software and hardware ones, too much behind other companies in features, too much hype for nothing.

Back in the day you used to run, cycle, swim do whatever sport you like to a) get your head free and just enjoy the activity and b) just "empty" yourself. When you're done, sweating and exhausted, it was a good workout
So true.

I also disabled all the notification badges on app icons, like unread messages, new posts and whatever. Just left one for Messages and calls. Much better now.

Of course a comment like this must appear.
2nd. It has a "speed sensor" via accelerometers and GPS, and no, it doesn't have cadence or power because that's physically impossible for a watch.

Here are at least 2 examples:

https://www.polar.com/uk-en/products/improve_fitness/running_multisport/RC3_GPS

My Garmin 500 is slightly bigger and way less powerful than an Apple watch. Speed sensors are on the wheels. Cadence sensors are also on the wheels now (instead of sitting on the pedal arms). Sensors can communicate to the device.

Hey Apple: how about working on Mac upgrades instead of all these ads?

I was unaware that Apple had combined their engineering and advertising departments.

I have the Apple Watch Sport (Gen 1) and have worn it non-stop for the past 1.5 years. I ran a half-marathon last summer with one of my co-workers, and it was a great way challenge each other with the Nike Run+ app. Sometimes I'm tempted to upgrade to the SS model, just to make it look a little more professional when I'm in business meetings. We'll see.

these are misleading ads

1st no surfer ive seen wears an apple watch while surfing. have you tried using the screen when wet?

regarding the cycling - where are the data screens for cadence, power, speed sensor, etc.?

Actually if you have a car/alarm that can be unlocked with an Apple Watch, you don't have to carry a key (or try to waterproof the fob). Comes in handy. I just wish Dodge supports it soon.

Likewise! My next car will have this feature. Right now I put my car key in a lockbox attached to the shocks in the wheel well. I'm looking for a good house lock too that the watch supports for when I walk to the break.

No, but from the lack of attention to the Mac line, it just seems that way.

I'd say it's proportional to the sales/revenue the Mac line-up brings in. They sell 10x as many iPhones as they do Macs, and 2x as many iPads as they do Macs. Just my opinion.

So my opinion is that if they paid more attention to upgrading the Mac line and advertised it more, then maybe its sales/revenue would increase. The point being that it's clear they aren't very interested in it.

It's possible, but dropping $1000 on a computer it's possible for a lot of people. Whereas breaking up payments for an iPhone over 24 months or only spending $500 for an iPad would be.
