He's three months younger than me. Same thing happened to me. Just a couple of years ago I had a figure I could put in a bikini. :eek:Good lord, what happened! Next thing you know my butt is up two pants sizes and I'm eating the same as I always did. Thanks Menopause. Jony Ive and my husband put on a few pounds, too, in the past year or two. Manopause. Age happens. We'd better get our Apple Watches on and fill those exercise rings!
Sooooo... maybe that's why devices keep getting thinner? To sort of "compensate", haha.

Have you seen Schiller and Ive lately?

(Of course, I can't talk! :D )

You know that feeling you are feeling now? "Big deal if you had this first"

Thats how many people felt like when Apple sued Samsung for rounded corners and bounce back scrolling. Maybe thats why people keep bring up "Android had it first". This is what happens when you go thermonuclear.

And this is why we are going nowhere. Look I was one of the first to criticize Apple when they sued for rounded corners and the bounce back scrolling. Just stop already and enjoy the feature on whichever phone you have.

One year Apple was selling 100 million iPhones a year. The next year they were selling 150 million iPhones a year. Then the following year they were selling 200 million iPhones a year.

You're right though... iPhone growth will surely stop.... but iPhone sales will continue.

If Apple can sell somewhere between 200-250 million iPhones a year (which I have no doubt they can do) and they have an ASP of over $600 (which is normal for Apple... they don't do cheap) then I don't see what the problem is.

There are some companies who barely sell 20 million smartphones... and LOSE money on each one!

Aren't they the ones you should be worried about?

But yes... there will be a time when Apple fails to break their own sales record. So they'll just have to settle for selling a huge amount of phones with large profit margins.

Oh the horror ;)

Except you forget that all of Apple's decision makers have their salary and bonuses tied to stock performance. And The biggest thing Wall Street cares about is growth. I think that's another reason we're seeing Apple branch out into other markets (wearables, the rumored car project); they have to keep the growth alive to protect their own retirement plans.

I'm sure Steve enjoyed the profits and benefits thereof, but I always felt like he did things for the love of Apple and his passion for technology. Today's leadership... Not so much.

Apple has become the victim of its unprecedented success.

If  stock prices remain stagnant (or often times down) after a record shattering quarter, imagine the hit  will take once this 'streak' inevitability ends.

After all, market saturation for smartphones will happen eventually.

Yes and no. The one thing about the Smart Phone market is it's a self-rejuvenating market. People generally only keep their current phone 2-3 years before wanting or needing a new one. So there will always be a huge market to sell too today, tomorrow and probably 10 years from now.

However, every king will fall eventually, Apple still has a excellent chance of keeping it's position as king for a while... but they are going to have to change or massively innovate again to do that.

Which one great place to start would be give SIRI a massive upgrade... she's been getting better, but the competition is running away from her now.

Apple's new in house advertising with projected near 1000 employees pale in comparison to the advertising campaigns by TBWA/Chiat/Day - where the style, vision, and personality of the commercials were incredibly iconic.

The recent commercials by Apple seem devoid of personality vision or style wise, I guess one of the pitfalls of in house advertising.
If I try to quickly review last Apple ads in my mind, I find it difficult to remember the products or features advertised from one ad to another.
I see a perpetual and confusing sequence of nice people in nice places doing nice things but the product, phone or tablet or watch or whatever, stays blurry in the background.
Well that's probably my mind that shows some limit, I wish I was so smart and powered as some people in here.

Apple sells a lifestyle and an ecosystem, that's why they've become so popular. You can see MS took a page out of Apple's playbook this year with the Surface Pro 4 and SurfaceBook. That keynote was extremely Apple-esque and the ads for their products this year are very similar to Apple as well. Interesting people doing interesting things and using their devices in support of a lifestyle.

Wonderful how "hey siri" can hear him in all that noise while the smallest background noise totally makes it not work on my phone.

Siri has her good days and bad days ... For no apparent reason. All things being equal and once day Siri gets all of my dictation correctly, the next day not a single word seems right.

I have no idea how Siri works that it behaves this way, but that's why it's so frustrating.

And this particular add is quite perplexing ... This scenario is far better for showing hey Siri on the Watch, then doing a handoff to the phone. I work in production. I put my phone down at home like that all the time, but on set people learn really quickly that randomly setting your phone down will lead very bad things. Just like on a construction site I suspect. He's wearing a nice jacket, and he would instinctively keep it in his pocket. Moreover, he appears to be steps from his phone, yet even though he's going to immediately pick up his phone and look at the images, he calls the instructions to the phone, then picks it up. Surely there's a far better way to showcase this feature for regular people than such an obviously staged moment?

I believe it's the M9 coprocessor that makes the difference.

I don't understand the actual technology behind it, but something about it makes it power efficient enough to leave the microphone on at all times. With the previous iPhones and with the iPads the microphone is only on at all times when plugged in.

Edit: The iPad Pro also has the M9 coprocessor but does not have the always on "Hey, Siri."

Not sure what to make of that except that Apple is very often inscrutable.

Thanks. Makes a little more sense.

Ask Sony how that worked out ;) excellent case study.

Don't be fooled, people will only keep buying while you innovate and are the coolest product every two years.

All companies go these through cycles, it's a question of when and not if. Enjoying owning the coolest phone on the market, it takes one innovative product from the competition though to steal the thunder....
i know - they need to give people zero incentive to jump ship.

why do you think the iPhone 6 has a bigger screen? to give people less of an incentive to move to samsung
why do you think imessage and itunes isnt available on android?

I'm not saying they'll for sure always have record breaking years, but I'm saying it is possible.

Excuse me for distracting from the overweight director-topic or Apple's doomed existence, but what kind of iphone is in the ad? it's black front and silver bezel??!

What is so special about this? That is a stock selection option. I have this exact combination myself.

The only thing more useless than Siri is Favreau.
Favreau is laughing to the bank. He has more offers for director work than he can handle. The guy could work for the next six years full time from the contracts ready for signing on his desk.

I saw the ad differently. I saw Jon as more interested in flying squirrels then the stuntmen.. as per his last sentence where he looks away from the stuntmen and says "keep going till I give the word" while engrossed in his iPhone. Maybe too subtle?

Yeah all those useless directors making all those useless movies and all that useless money are all totally useless. On the other hand, random people with anonymous screen names spouting opinions on a tiny web forum are sooooo very useful.

I know this... the fine folks at Apple know this... but I'm not sure Wall Street know this.

I don't understand Wall Street... I just see Apple as a company who can make billions of dollars a quarter.

And then there are other companies who make ZERO dollars a quarter... but everyone is worried about Apple?

Once smartphones get fast enough and have long lasting battery life, like laptops have, where the processing power is no longer a limitation , it's going to be a tough sell getting the customer to buy a new phone each year, especially as the prices are going up around the world.

You can't have the iPhone approaching laptop pricing, and continue to break records. In my opinion it's not sustainable .

One of the major blockers breaking records will be the US dollar. My iPhone cost me 15% more than last year..... If the 7 has another similar hit.... I'm dropping out of the yearly update cycle. Just not worth it, and Apple is very quick to adjust the price to currency changes when it in their favour.

Me too, I loved the movie Chef where he was the food truck guy!!

Woah, I didn't realize it was the same actor. Now I can credit him for two inspirations.
1) the movie chef inspired me to be more creative in the kitchen, even when the kitchen was a camp fire
2) after seeing this commercial I am inspired to go to a gym so I don't look like he does in a few years.
