Question about my iPhone 6S Plus:

If I get the battery replaced... can they also replace my Lightning port while they have my phone opened?

And how much does that usually cost?

It's out of warranty obviously... it's almost 3 years old!

I think the Lightning port is worn out since I have multiple cables that don't stay connected. They just fall out at the slightest movement.

For any one who was not impressed with the new phones and wants to keep an iPhone older than the 7, you should get your battery replaced. Even if you have a 6s, I think it will likely be worth it. If you are keeping your phone for another year, then treat yourself at least to a battery upgrade.

Pocket lint. I had a similar problem with an iPhone 5 a few days out of warranty. They quoted me £100s of pounds to fix with a refurb replacement. Genius took pity on me, told me they'd go open it up for free... 10 minutes later they gave it back to me, minus a ton of fluff. The phone is now dead, but the lightning port works perfectly. On my way out of the store, since the problem was likely caused by my work trousers and I couldn't change those, I bought one of the mophie cases that had an integrated battery, and covered the lightning port.

Later had a problem with my iPhone 6, same thing - lint. Fixed with a safety pin myself.

Definitely gonna take advantage of the $29 pricing before the end of the year, to keep my 7 Plus going for another year. Hopefully ios 12 is a lot easier on battery life than ios 11 has been...sigh.

For those that have done it already, do you need to go to an Apple store so they can "inspect" it and then they'll set up a battery replacement appointment? Or is it, just set up an appointment and they'll put a new battery in that same day?

$29 to $49... its still cheap. Although never needed to replace one, it still good pricing..

I usually get a new phone before that ever happens.

I was going to replace the battery in my 6S before the end of the year... even though the battery is fine. But with the new regular price only being $49 (versus $79 before), I don't think I'll bother - I won't really need one for another year or two.

I'm going to keep this 6S going for as long as I reasonably can. There's just not a compelling reason for me to upgrade, and it's a great phone.
Funny how my daughter’s 6S got the battery replaced few months later the logic board died. Apple said they don’t fix the logic board so they want us to buy a new iPhone. Sometimes I’m losing trust to Apple they seems to do things that are questionable now. I want my battery to get replaced but I’m holding on to it.

Thanks!

I had cleaned it before with a toothpick and pulled some lint out. But now I used a pin and was a little more rough with it.

It definitely helped! It now stays plugged in... but it's still doesn't make a nice solid "click" like it used to.

But hey... I'll take it! At least it will get me through until I buy one of these new iPhones!

Thanks again!!!! :)

Funny how our mindset has changed now. Back then we thought non-user replaceable battery is ridiculous. Now $50 battery replacement is cheap.

A small paper-clip is good, too. The toothpick and pin all have sharp points, but a paperclip with its flat point can scrape the inside of the port maybe a little better. Or probably a combination of those various items would work best. :)
[doublepost=1536846140][/doublepost]The $49 pricing should stem the tide of last minute not-so-needed replacements. I was thinking of replacing my 8, at 90% health, just for the cheap pricing. But I can wait another year for only $20 more.

I agree -- very reasonable prices. As for replacing mine and my wife's phones at $29, I will do so in early November. Might as well squeeze as much life as possible out of our existing battery!

I have an X, bought in early 2018. Battery health at 90%. No Apple care.

Am I eligible for a $29 replacement before Jan 2019?

My launch day X is at 92%. Since I'm keeping it for another year, I plan on having the battery replaced in December, just to get as much life as possible out of the existing battery.

Not iPhone 5S users unfortunately and still not considered with this new pricing instead they have to pay more. Go figure since iOS 12 supports this model hmmm
I mean, be happy the software is still good. Why should they support hardware that is literally 5+ years old? You're saying you want the low pricing or they won't replace it at all? I'm sure they'll do it for a price.

Hey ARE already supporting the hardware that is 5yrs old - this same sort of ridiculous forum rhetoric is used far too often. I’m asking Apple to consider the same line of battery replacement support pricing as the 6/6s/7 since the OS is supporting the device already coming next week. Either support the device or don’t not half step.

Btw I have an iPhone 8 my son has the 5S as punishment for loaning a so called friend his 6S whom never gave it back and screwed him over.

Good thing my wife and I just had our batteries replaced! Especially for her since she has a 6s, but my 7 is rocking along like a beast. Unless I find a refurb X at a good price, hope to have the 7 another 1 to 2 years...

Thanks!

I had the same about a year ago, it took me several times to clean it 100%, had some issues in between cleaning, be sure it's cleaned 100%.

My charging port is working 100% for the last year, so it helps to be meticulous.
