You can hear the desperation from here.
Haters gonna hate.

Helping to make the planet cleaner and safer by repurposing material goods is not an act of desperation. It’s an act of responsibility and stewardship.

Yeah, maybe if they offered fair value. Their online assessment offered me barely $325 Canadian for what was then a barely more than 1 year old iPhone 8, 256gb. I sold it for $600 myself. It's an insult.
Do you seriously not understand economics? When trading in with Apple you pay for convenience. If you want to take the time and effort to sell your phone elsewhere, you’re free to do that. And you did. And for you it was worth it. But for many other people, they prefer the one stop convenience of doing it all in one move. It’s not an insult. It’s just economics.

iPhone made 31 billion last quarter they are fine.

Peak pixel, no such thing.
Ithe device would actually need to sell in order to have a peak.

The notch on the Pixel 3 was an abomination. No surprise it didn't sell.

Actually letting someone else use your used phone is much better to keep the planet clean. But as you said in your post you pay a price to Apple to let them take care of it, that's nice for the people who want to make use of it I suppose.

Sure the notch.... or it’s a pos.

Because that’s not necessarily true? Apple has all the data in the world to make decisions and has an excellent track record in managing the company.
They may have the data but recent data has shown how it’s the lower end of the market that has seen an increase in sales, whereas the premium end is struggling. People don’t want to spend £1000 for a new phone each year.

That would be admitting Apple made a mistake.
And they are too Arrogant to admit that.
That's why they are allowing the likes of Amazon to sell their products and for less. It'd be front page news on every IT news feed if they started doing discounts directly.

Simples, install Nacho Notch and job done.

I just upgraded my iPhone 8 Plus to the XS using Apples Trade in Program. Apple offered $370 for the iPhone 8 Plus. Sounds good. So I upgraded my phone and sent the iPhone 8 Plus (which was in a Case with Screen Protector the entire time) over to the facility in Texas they wanted it shipped to. iPhone was wiped and shut off.

Last week I received an email from Apple that the iPhone had a Bulging Battery and the Screen was coming off, so they couldn't give me anything for the iPhone. I had two options to choose:
  1. Accept $0 for the iPhone
  2. Reject it and be changed $370 to my credit card
I rejected it, because I know the battery & screen were fine, there was no bulging battery. Theres no way. So, now I'm waiting for the phone to come back so I can sell it on eBay. Ya, good times.

It's nice you can't dispute it or talk to someone. Just eBay it, or meet some guy on craigslist at 7/11.

i'm using my 7 as a paper right now, with hopes of using it as a second camera in the near future. either way it's better than the $200 trade-in they offered me for it.

If anyone is going to do a trade-in, don't expect to get your old back if you decide the new phone is not what you want or change your mind. The old phone is going to get shipped out well before the 14 days they allow you to return for a refund. I already asked one of the sale staff and this is what I was told and I can see this scenario to be true. I'd rather they lower the price and do away with the trade-in because I want to keep my old phone as a backup. I thought this trade-in was supposed to end at the end of March but it is still currently offered on their website.

lol very true. they'll lower the prices this fall for the new flagships, come up with some B.S. and the apple fanboys will be like:

"yup honestly, makes perfect sense.. last year the iPhone XS was TOTALLYYYYYYY worth $1000 like.. it had a dual camera bro it was freaking AWESOMEEEEEEEE!111!1!!!!, and this year it being $100 less it makes perfect sense, apple knows what they're doing ya'll ;) i always believed in tim cook. tim cook for president LETS GOOOOO"

Did you read the article or even watch the video? This ad Apple is advocating is discussing partially the recycling program, and ensuring that the trades in devices and the components in the phone will be recovered/recycled. This isn’t entirely about lowering the prices with the phones, with its environmental program being promoted.

i can recycle my iPhone by selling it online and getting more for it.

as i've said here many times, prices will drop by $100 in the fall.

lmao all the data in the world and sales declining. they clearly ****ed up. stop making excuses (unless you own apple stock then go ahead) because apple does not give 2 ***** about you (or me)

No investors are surprised iPhone sales are declining, but recognize people aren't switching to Android. The active device base keeps increasing and people are just holding out a little longer. Services, wearables, and even iPad just put up incredible growth. Apple is transitioning to a services business where they have 68% margins.

Yes, I'm an investor.

It’s funny to me how they claim to be oh so environmental on one hand and on the other hand they basically have to replace half of the MacBook just to fix a stuck key on the keyboard. Give me a break. Hypocrites

I am a prime customer for Apple. I need to upgrade my family phones. I currently have two iPhones 7+ and two 6S. Apple won't give me much for any of the trade-ins. I am just holding it possible for another year.
There are some BOGO deals from carriers, but again, if the iPhone prices were not so absolutely ridiculous, I would be way more prone to jumping in. The prices of XS and XS Max are just insane.

Apple: We just successfully lobbied against right to repair legislation, so now when your iPhone is broken you might as well give it to us for free so we can resell the parts.

Truth is they just want them of the market, thee is not much to be recycled in old phones, most components are outdated or not feasible for recycling. They will throw them all in a shredder and melt out the metals.

Destroying working phones is the opposite of eco friendliness or „being green“ as they like to nproclaim so often. But it fits their anti repair agenda.

Please explain how is destroying perfectly working phones or phones that just need a few minutes of treatment by guys like Louis rossman to work again make the planet cleaner?

iPhones made more than 31 billion dollars last quarter.
Who do you think is doing better?

Sure but revenue is only down 5%.
Would you like to place a bet that apple will raise prices this year?

Top tier 11 max will cost more than a top tier xs max.

Maybe don’t be so greedy on the trade-in prices

Competitors like Samsung and Google are very generous and actually seem to want people to trade their devices in

So according to Apple my mint condition jet black 7+ 256GB is only worth £190 and my 2012 iMac is worth £187.....

I have seen nothing added to the iPhone since I got my 7+ to make upgrading worth while and that justify the price jumps. I'll be keeping and using my current set up until it no longer gets iOS updates and then I'll decide if I want to stay in Apple's walled garden.

That's what Apple wants you/us to believe. But the truth is far from this.

It would be different if Apple took the "trade-in" devices (read: donations) and actually gave them to families as a free device to replace their current (and likely lesser quality) smartphones instead of just changing a batter if needed and selling it for 5% off a brand new phone price on their website, or cannibalizing it for whatever crossover spare parts there are (and then filling up landfill with the rest of it).

Apple is trying to make it sound like they're a great humanitarian for this, when really they just want you to buy their product and then use it and give it back for free or next to free.

If Apple wants to do something truly great the way they say you should do something truly great, then they'd donate them to a lower income family.

And before Captain A**hole chirps in: Do you know what sort of self worth and esteem an iPhone might have on a 5th grader when he/she sees his/her mom or dad bust their ass at 3 jobs to give their child a better life? And that maybe instead of having a crappy smartphone, they are able to give them an iPhone? That small act could motivate that child to do great things with their lives. Yes, I know it's "just a phone", but the butterfly effect says that even that smallest of gesture could completely change the trajectory of a person's life!

Paperweight or $200 or never really use it as a second camera in the near future as mobile camera tech has come a long way since the iPhone 7. Hmm o_O:rolleyes:
[doublepost=1557323835][/doublepost]
Do one last great thing with it: put it on Ebay.

This might be an option for some, for others they just want to walk into an Apple Store with their old phone and get cash value for a new one. No waiting to package, ship, or the risk of a damage or lost delivery claim, plus transaction fees and the time it all take.

At present the iPhone 6 and 6S trade-in value by Apple is higher than anything I have seen, considering battery life and all. If you have an 8, probably no point unless you want the convenience of FaceID.

Difficulty to say, however one can get 4-5+ years out of an iPhone, compare that with a Samsung or Google phone (after two updates you might as well trade it in or buy a new model). What I like about Apple is that I receive iOS updates immediately and annually on devices 3 years and older, if I spend $500 on an XR and use it for 5 years that is $100 per year for a device I use daily.

Better yet, do the smart thing and trade it in for a Pixel 3a plus $100 Google Store credit.
