It’s funny to me how they claim to be oh so environmental on one hand and on the other hand they basically have to replace half of the MacBook just to fix a stuck key on the keyboard. Give me a break. Hypocrites

Some wins some losses, thus is life. Question is why do you believe Apple is above any other company, do you get that sense when you view their products, services and ads.

Better yet, do the smart thing and trade it in for a Pixel 3a plus $100 Google Store credit.

https://slickdeals.net/f/13067710-p...r-iphone-6-or-245-for-iphone-6s-other-iphones

Example Eligible Trade-In (Estimated Trade-In Value)
  • Apple iPhone 6 Smartphone $250 (Estimated Trade-In Value)
  • Apple iPhone 6 Plus Smartphone $250 (Estimated Trade-In Value)
  • Apple iPhone 6S Smartphone $250 (Estimated Trade-In Value)
  • Apple iPhone 6S Plus Smartphone $250 (Estimated Trade-In Value)
  • Apple iPhone 7 Smartphone $250 (Estimated Trade-In Value)
Other Apple iPhone Smartphones
  • Apple iPhone 7 Plus Smartphone $263 (Estimated Trade-In Value)
  • Apple iPhone 8 Smartphone $290 (Estimated Trade-In Value)
  • Apple iPhone 8 Plus Smartphone $341 (Estimated Trade-In Value)
  • Apple iPhone X Smartphone $418 (Estimated Trade-In Value)

So basically even Google sees iPhones as having some value after 4 years of initial release, notice that there is no value provided for other Android OEM phones, hmm I wonder why?:p

Difficulty to say, however one can get 4-5+ years out of an iPhone, compare that with a Samsung or Google phone (after two updates you might as well trade it in or buy a new model). What I like about Apple is that I receive iOS updates immediately and annually on devices 3 years and older, if I spend $500 on an XR and use it for 5 years that is $100 per year for a device I use daily.
I was just talking about what Samsung or Google will offer for an iPhone

it's more than adequate for the need)

So is a rock if planning on using as a paperweight or a 4K handheld camera sans optical zoom on cheaper models. Better quality too, if you take pride in your work :p

yea, i didn't trade it in though, so it's irrelevant at this point. oh, i also have a lot of family members who inherit my phones after i'm done with them, so i think we're ok! :)

Do you work for that website, those prices are horrible.

400 dollars for an iPhone x.

Good luck with that.

At present the iPhone 6 and 6S trade-in value by Apple is higher than anything I have seen, considering battery life and all. If you have an 8, probably no point unless you want the convenience of FaceID.

Not true in my case. I got €200 from an eBay buyer for my old 6S just two months ago when Apple was offering me half of that.

I do have an 8 whose battery has seen better days, but I don't like the X-R-S-whatever iPhone generation nor do I find FaceID to be more convenient than TouchID (case in point: Apple Pay).

So I'll wait it out, but I'm kinda tired of waiting, and the 2019 iPhone renders don't look very promising.

There are unique situations that some people get a higher value when selling privately, it is not a constant norm. Consider yourself fortunate.

ApplePay is designed to click the power button in case of accidental triggers. Can a better process be implemented in the future sure, however this is what we have today. TouchID on phone is EOL, once a budget iPhone receives it that’s it. FaceID has made its debut on iPad Pro, it maybe either this year if not next before we see it on the mid-tier lineup.

Where FaceID is really needed is on the MacBook lineup, however I suspect it will be introduced on the Pro line this year if not next.

I understand your feelings towards TouchID, however it is not coming back in the sense we know it as such. Hopefully in the power button as well for a triple layer security measure would be cool, it’s is already on the power button on the MacBook lineup so why not.

Another Apple desperate move to increase sales of the overpriced phone line up.

FYI,we can sell our phones online for much more money.

Apple's marketing truly can make anything seem magical.

It actually would be magical if not for the awful trade-in value you get from them. If the trade-ins were better I would be fine with them but as it is, I am rooting for the right to repair initive.

If that were the case It would be cheaper and much less work for apple to lower prices instead of Initiating a recycling and buy back program.

That's why they are allowing the likes of Amazon to sell their products and for less. It'd be front page news on every IT news feed if they started doing discounts directly.

Simples, install Nacho Notch and job done.

Exactly. Which is why, today anyway, you can get a spanking new 2018 MacBook Air for $999 on Amazon.

Nacho Notch?????

the perceived cost at purchase seems high for iPhone, but looking at total cost of ownership and adding the value when trading in your old Apple device shows that iPhone prices are actually quite low. some flagship devices from competitors cost you money to recycle, after a few years with iPhone there's several hundred dollars value in resale value.

The majority of people on this forum are not smart enough to understand what total cost of ownership means. They see an initial price and have no idea to evaluate long term cost.

I agree. Seems like an expensive VO choice considering we're not entirely sure that it's her. So why not just hire someone who sounds like her and let us think it actually is her?
She does have a great voice - Scarlett or not. hahaha Just like the film HER.

Both the recycling and the buy back are a complete marketing scam. They give very low trade in value, if the let you trade it at all. That is why anybody with 2 brain cells, would sell it online.
If the truly care about recycling, then Apple should stop making an entire disposable non-upgradable computer line up MBP, Mac Mini, etc).

Truth is they just want them of the market, thee is not much to be recycled in old phones, most components are outdated or not feasible for recycling. They will throw them all in a shredder and melt out the metals.

Destroying working phones is the opposite of eco friendliness or „being green“ as they like to nproclaim so often. But it fits their anti repair agenda.
[doublepost=1557267073][/doublepost]

Please explain how is destroying perfectly working phones or phones that just need a few minutes of treatment by guys like Louis rossman to work again make the planet cleaner?
Are you just making stuff up? Who said that Apple destroys every phone that people trade in? That’s simply not true. Apple clearly states that they refurbish and repurpose phones that are salvageable. They only disassemble and scrap-for-parts the phones that are beyond reasonable re-use.

Also, you don’t seem to understand the word “recycling”. Throwing something in a shredder and melting out the metals is precisely what recycling is.

Any phone that could be refurbished is worth far more than the rebate you get. Very large majority of These phones will be destroyed. Apple does not scrap for parts, they melt it down for the metals. They have a very strict full destruction policy for Recycling partners to prevent exactly this. Lots of component Could be harvested but it would also mean cheaper and easier repair wich is not good for business.

Yes I know what recycling means. Recycling old but working devices and destroying all parts to prevent spare parts for repairs getting in circulation is good for apples business, but it’s the opposite of eco friendliness.

If I start melting down brand new cars, it’s also recycling. But it’s still a waste of resources...
