I keep thinking I need to look at a new strap, but the Apple ones are massively incredibly overpriced and the choice out there is just mind boggling! I mean you have to google what’s the best none Apple strap to buy theirs so many! A flipping watch strap!

I think I have a total of 5 watch bands. Occasionally, Best Buy has had the official Apple watch bands on massive discounts. (This happens with the official iPhone cases as well).

Granted, this doesn't happen all the time, but you can find the bands at other places besides Apple & many times there are reasonable discounts.

If it wasn't clear from the context, the caoutchouc bands I have are for my Marathon diver's watch, not for my Apple Watch. They could be used with adapters, but wouldn't be as well integrated as the Sport Bands. The one that leaps to mind is the Pure model by Hirsch, but IIRC, Bonetto Cinturini also makes some nice ones (and some of Bonetto Cinturini's bands have been used as OEM bands by a number of well-known watch makers).
Ah. My apologies. Thanks for the info anyway.

The Apple Watch is more than just an iPhone accessory, isn’t it?

Technically yes, though I wish it would be able to sync Health-related data to an iPad or Mac or iCloud. Once it can be set up and utilized without another device as they did with iOS 5, I personally do not see it in the same league of product lines as the iPhone / iPad / Mac

I own 28 OEM bands...and i love them because they make the watch more interesting and fun to dress up depending on your mood or outfit. Apple watch bands sell out often and are resold for sometimes $150+ it's original price. So to answer everyone's question here: Yes people care about watch bands.
