Not exactly shot on, but was just watching the trailer for Hotel Transylvania 3 and I can see the clip clearly uses an iPhone (its actually a sony one saw the movie today) in it where Dracula can clearly be seen talking to Siri. Siri gets it just as good for him as Siri does for me -

Actually, "football" was called "soccer", (or "socca") in the UK long before it was called "football"

From http://www.word-detective.com/121800.html
: 'It's true that the game known as "football" in most of the world (not just the UK) is known as "soccer" in the US, but we didn't just pull the word out of the air so that we could call our quasi-gladiatorial extravaganzas "football." In fact, you Brits actually invented the word. "Soccer," when it first appeared in the 1890s, was spelled "socca," which was short for "association" or "association football," meaning football played according to the rules laid down by the British Football Association. It was also called "socker" until the current form "soccer" appeared around 1895.
The term football predates soccer by several centuries. circa 1400

Hehehehe.

‘Im Lonely’
Siri: oh you want balone.

Hehehe.

The videos are nicely edited.

To me the image quality seems low, both in terms of resolution and compression artifacts. Maybe some of that is the fault of YouTube. But the shots are well exposed, and the grading looks ok. The audio is also good, and makes me think it might have been recorded in a studio.

In the current state the iPhone is so much harder to shoot video with than proper equipment, given that it does not store RAW or higher bitrate log video. I think it would be possible for Apple to add RAW ProRes support to the iPhone. Then it would be a good tool for shooting video, assuming they get their image processing right and there is at least some dynamic range.

All I get from these "you can shoot video on iPhone" advertisements say to me is that if you prepare everything in advance and have all the settings right, it is possible (in theory) to get usable iPhone footage. But the advantage of pro equipment is that you have a bit of leeway that actually let you crop and grade in post.

I think Apple should focus the their ads on where the iPhone really shines, which is an always-with-you camera that takes truly great 4k clips of friends and family.

Add the things mentioned above and then come talk about video production.

It is like the "shot on iPhone" photo series. What pro or enthusiast in their right mind would shoot JPEG given the choice of RAW? Being able to correct white balance in post (or even before shooting) is essential. Apple seems to not care for these core elements, but instead invest heavily in things like generated depth blur. All these effects (distractions?) makes Apple imagery seem cheap.

I hope they will change focus, and try to capture reality with as much accuracy as possible. No tricks! Just as high quality as the hardware will allow.

Maybe so, but the point was that the term "soccer" originated in the UK in reference to association rules football to distinguish it from the other popular form of football played in the UK (Rugby rules) or even older forms of football.

The term "football" can be used both generically (to refer to any form of football) or colloquially to refer to the predominant form in that country (which is, admittedly, soccer in most countries). Objecting to the use of the term "soccer" to mean association rules football as if there's only one type of "football" in the world is just a bit silly (nobody objects to the term "rugby").

You can get most of that from filmic pro. It allows you to shoot higher nitrate and a log lite color space.

I think with the iPhone you don’t have a major setup, have more mobility to move around, plus have the potential to have a multi cam shoot with the cost.

It does allow a higher bitrate, and you can set the color temperature. But it is not RAW, meaning you cannot set the white balance in post. The Log modes are not really Log, and in 8bit it is anyway not doing much.

I like that it is a little better with these apps. But compared to more “pro” gear it is much harder to work with in post. Which means that you have to get it right when you shoot.

I agree you have to get it right when you shoot (which you should try to do regardless) but my C300 Mark II can’t even shoot RAW unless I have an Atomos hooked up to it.

I know it is not the same, but my 5dMkiii (from 2012) shot RAW with Magic Lantern. I think Canon has their own agenda to consider in terms of what they add support for.

But since Apple published ProRes RAW, it would not be impossible for it to be a headlining feature of a future iPhone. Fingers crossed.

I would be happy just to see prores as an option but I doubt that would ever happen. I think the best option now would to have a HLG color profile with h.265
