Maybe not never but looking at what it takes to make a production of an NFL or MLB game, it's huge huge money and tons of existing investment. I'm not as familiar with soccer so maybe it would be less expensive.

But this is what I worry about with Apple. Was it really worth all they sunk into the car? Will it really be worth sinking a billion dollars into upgrading sports cameras and all the associated infrastructure just to prop up Vision Pro? Was it worth it even making Apple TV+?

Maybe yes to all those if they are ready to really stick it out for the long term, but a lot of it just seems like a distraction.

For the car, a billion a year is chump change to Apple, and who knows what tech they got out of it.

If they can crack the sports market with Vision Pro or a cheaper version they could have a blockbuster when combined with Apple TV or other services.

Right?! I'm a huge fan of submarine movies, and my first thought watching this trailer was, "This might be freaky af watching a flooding scene."
Or the immersive experience watching the submarine go through the water. Better than 3D.

That is probably the best submarine movie made. The series is interesting but not as gripping.

The book is well worth reading.
Probably?

What else comes close?

Red October is terrific for what it is, the epitome of a Sunday Afternoon movie.

Crimson Tide is a perfectly tuned piano of machismo and melodrama

Run Silent and Enemy Below defined the genre.

I guess if we include Abyss that would give Das Boot a run for its money. Abyss is fantastic, but just not a masterpiece like DB.

Could be a good short film. More content is required for Vision Pro. But that alone will not increase the sales.

Hunt for red October was excellent. A lot of that movie is exactly what we trained for in the real life.
U-571 was very good.
K19 As a Submarine Veteran, K19 was very difficult to watch. It was well done and probably highlights one of the biggest fears there is in the submarine life.
Crimson Tide was crap.
The most realistic submarine movie that truly epitomizes the submarine life is Down Periscope. Ironically, it was very relatable.

Yea, I'm surprised they never made a movie about Scorpion or Thresher...

Pure Hollywood garbage.

It was, in its own comedic way, very realistic. I liked the golfing off the turtleback scene.

Apple today shared a trailer for Submerged, its first scripted film designed for the Apple Immersive Video experience on the Vision Pro headset.

Announced back in July, Submerged is a short film that's set in World War II, and it follows a group of sailors that are struggling to survive a deadly torpedo attack. It was created by Austrian filmmaker Edward Berger, who directed 2022 movie All Quiet on the Western Front.

Apple has not provided details on the length of Submerged, but most Apple Immersive Video content is on the shorter side. Apple has been regularly adding Immersive Video to the Vision Pro since the device came out last February. The immersive content is in 3D, and is meant to make the viewer feel like they are part of the scene.

Apple Immersive Video content can be viewed in the Apple TV app in Australia, Canada, Hong Kong, France, Germany, Japan, Singapore, the U.K., and the U.S. Users in China can watch the content through the Migu Video and Tencent Video apps.

Submerged is set to premiere on the Vision Pro on Thursday, October 10.

This is where it actually comes in handy as a diving mask.

We got to jump of the fairwater and tee off from the turtle back at the equator.

The issue is zero people will buy Vision Pros for watching movies. It's nice to have but not a system seller.

Everyone WILL buy Vision Pros if they could get an NBA courtside view.

Wow, those "statistics" must be well researched facts...

Speaking only from my subjective point of view:
  • Movies are great on Vision Pro, but I did not pay $4k to watch movies alone. I have heard people buy AVP for movies alone (due to it being the most mature use-case at the moment), but I am not one of those people.
  • Reason for me to pay for AVP is productivity. Unfortunately the value proposition is not yet delivered. I am still using AVP almost daily for this, but it is not yet worth the price. Maybe visionOS 3 or 4 will be the one... (I am not holding my breath)
  • For me there is exactly 0 value in any sports content. I would never watch any sports (with AVP or without it). If Apple diverged a significant share of their content investment to sports, TV+ will be less valuable to me.
