People will complain about literally anything. Apple could give you a free house and you would find some way to spin it negatively, because Apple.

Your post is nonsense. "talentless monkies"? What does that even mean?

I agree, monkies isn't more monkey like I thought. It's monkeys. You know a monkey? Then picture a monkey with no talent.

The one thing that makes the series a sure winner is missing from the article. Spielberg is producing it!
I am not sure how much input a producer makes to a program, main people are the scriptwriters and directors.

From wikipedia:
director makes the creative decisions during the production, the producer typically manages the logistics and business operations

Cool. A si-fi anthology series. Better warm up ‘Transmission’.

Pippin?

Yep! I totally agree, but I think that's exactly why Apple has given away a free year of it to so many people.

They're going to need at least a year to build up enough original programming to justify keeping the subscription, and to get enough people hooked on a series or two so they'll want to renew when the first year is up.

If they can produce multiple seasons of even 6 or 7 quality shows that cater to a variety of interests, I think they'll have no problem getting the $5/month from plenty of subscribers. Look how many paid up for a CBS streaming subscription for no reason at all except wanting to watch Star Trek: Picard?

The problem I've had so far is that most of the programming just isn't up my alley. I'd actually watch this one, I think. But nothing else they've got on right now is really exciting me. I'm into good sci-fi, but that "For All Mankind" series about the Soviets putting a man on the moon instead of America doesn't really cut it for me. (In fact, they just call that a drama instead of sci-fi, which is fair.)

The problem with AppleTV is that the subscription just gives you access to Apple's original shows and nothing more. Netflix and Amazon give you their original shows in addition to a ton of other movies and tv shows that they've licensed, all of which change every 2-3 months. AppleTV is $5/month and Netflix is $9/month. I think if Apple wants to compete in this space, they're going to have to start licensing other content to include on AppleTV. Either that, or include other features, like an AppleNews+ subscription. Or perhaps they should just follow the Amazon Prime model and give you an AppleTV/AppleNews+ subscription for free if you're a paid subscriber to iCloud.

Apple does need to do something with AppleTV because it's current iteration feels half baked, like they're only half committed to it. They do this sort of thing often andtheir history is littered with things that they only sort of commit to: the Apple HomePod, the iPod Hifi, the iPhone battery case, the Quicktake cameras, Pippin, etc.

Finally, something that I will actually watch on Apple TV+.

Loved the original NBC series in the 80s (the Jon Cryer horny college freshman being one of my favorites).
My favorite was the Zemeckis directed one with Christopher Lloyd and Mary Stuart Masterson.

Apple is going to need to share a lot more than this in the next few months if they want any hope of getting people to pay the monthly price once their free trials run out.

Not a chance I would be paying a fiver per month for the guff that is on there at the moment.
Go on Wikipedia and search for Apple TV+. With a bit of digging on that page, you'll come across a link that will take you to a page of currently available content...and then a list of upcoming content that has been announced so far. The upcoming list...is actually somewhat long. There's one show (that I recall...there may be more) on that list that has a release date of sometime over the summer of this year. I do also remember seeing a few that listed the length of the episodes and I do recall seeing some new hour-long ones. Outside of the "Summer 2020" for one of the shows, there's no telling when the rest will be out, but the list is getting longer!

Looks very child oriented, and nothing at all like Black Mirror. Still, there's a certain Spielberg feel to it, even the music feels like it's been lifted straight out of a Spielberg movie from the 80s.

The music is the same as was used for the original series, composed by John Williams ;-)

Hate to be that guy, especially as there looks to be a lot of people in thread looking forward to this... but... I'm yet to see anything on Apple TV+ that interests me (yes, I know its not aimed solely at me). There is nothing particularly challenging, nothing "odd" or different, nothing with much "edge". And the lighting and post pro in every series looks the same to me- clean, glossy, clear, bright.

Where's the bravery to do something different or unexpected?

Take a chance on Mythic Quest. I watched the first episode (pilot) and was ready to ditch the series but something made me take a punt on Episode 2 and I wasn't disappointed. The midseason episode Dark Quiet Death is fantastic and the last three episodes make a nice finale to the season. They're only 25-30mins each, give it a go.

I just saw Episode 1, The Cellar. Charming! Not dark or gritty, perhaps that is why it did not get positive previews, but I found it very enjoyable. Looking forward to the next episodes.
