The fact that you get 12 likes for your post shows the mentality of people on this forum....the 'iSheep' herd that love Apple blindly and don't want to hear any counter arguments. Y'all would be a good fit in 1984.

That quote in question is arrogant, and it would be an arrogant, stupid quote whether it was said about Apple, Android, Microsoft, HP, IBM, or whoever. If that comment was mentioned on an Android board, people would have responded the same way.

And seriously... "iSheep"? Don't be a fanboy.

I'm sorry, what? I couldn't hear you over the sound of you going against the grain. Pretty cool.

Personally, I'm ok with the size of the ipod touch. Maybe a bigger screen would be nice. Also, since they appeared to want to market it as a "gaming" device, they could offer accessories such as the ones offered by icade, etc.

Oh and I do believe the ipod is a winner for Apple. I'm looking forward to the next iteration.

I think that a bigger screen for the iPod/iphone would be awesome!! it would make it look better and you wouldn't have that somewhat dead black/white space

Apple shouldnt stop making iPod touches! For a kid, or ANYBODY for thhat matter who wants an iPhone experience, but doesn't want to add $30 to thier cell phone contract, its a great idea! Not everyone wants to spend $500+ on an iPad when they just wanna check their email on the couch or listen to music. Also, many of us, are looking forward to getting a new ipod touch whenever it comes out. If apple didnt want t o make iPod touches for any reason, they would have stopped already.

They shouldn't dump the iPod touch. I just got the new one in white last week for my birthday. iPod touch is basically like an iPhone except it doesn't have the phone part but it does have iMessage which is kinda BBM.

Did the guy that wrote the article ever consider the reason iPod Touch sales are down is because it hasn't really been updated in awhile and two new iPads and iPhones have been released since. It's not hard to really understand where the consumer dollars are going right now.

As an app developer I love the iPod Touch. It allows me to have many devices here to test with without a data contract attached to each one.

Love the iPod touch
Typing on one right now
Writing is on the wall tho
Apple wants to move everybody to their iPad line even school children
Once the iPad mini comes out expect the itouch to be buried soon after.

I think they will start updating half as much as the iPhone, only on the major redesigns. It just doesn't need the same horsepower as the iPhone, but with the ecosystem that's out there for apps, they aren't going to pass up an opportunity to sell a device for $200, and then sell more stuff for it in the app and music stores.

I hate spoiled rich business men that write these tech articles. Yea get a iPhone and pay $80+ a month for two years with a contract. I love my iPod Touch. I can stream internet radio walking around my house and having it docked to my stereo. I really hope that Apple does update the iPod Touch because it still plays internet radio apps great but some apps including games are very laggy which I end up just deleting. For example SpringPad was good then it was updated a few days ago and now it is so laggy and annoying. At least 5.1 fixed the crashing problems though as with 5.0.1 I wanted a iPhone but it runs better now.

It'll stay around, and I think it will get new functionality/hardware upgrades, but they won't be as fast (time wise), or as fast (chip speed wise) as what the iPhone and iPad get. The days of the iPod leading the hardware upgrades are gone. I think it will still be a solid product for the target market (13-18 y/o's). It's also, like others have mentioned, a great gateway drug to the iPhone.

I'd love to see an iPod Touch with improved capabilities near or equal to the iPhone. So why not buy an iPhone? I don't like to be locked into a phone contract. Specifically, I'd like to see in order:

1) Better cameras
2) iPhone display
3) GPS
4) More ram

Nice to have but not a deal killer

5) 3G/4G data like the iPad

I use my 2nd generation Touch for music, videos, as a remote for my Apple TV, email, just about everything I would use my iPad but it is more portable.

I agree with 1,2,4 and would add to that a better processor.

As for #3, it's only really needed if you have #5. And if you have #5 you need a data plan to use it, so you may as well get an iPhone. I don't think #5 will happen for various reasons, including that would eat in to iPhone sales. And of course it would become a set of models like you have for the iPad which is overkill for the iPod Touch.

The iPod has the same screen as the iPhone.

I think the camera has to do with thickness.

GPS would be nice, TomTom would work without data, although I don't think we'll see it, as the GPS chip is usually built into the 3G/4G chip.

We won't see prepaid 3G/4G, there's not enough of a market for it, and that would almost compete with the iPhone, which is not good for anyone. You could already use it with a Jetpack or similar device to get online. Might work well for a family that shares a Jetpack, and can use it with any type of device, iPods, iPads, laptops, etc.

The iPod is not meant to be a flagship device. It's a great device for what it is, and I think it will get an incremental update for the holidays, but nothing ground breaking. It's definitely not going away any time soon. It will keep getting watered-down tech from the iPhone and iPad.

I was just about to add the better processor 'want'.

I have a 2nd generation iPod Touch and I see a lot of potential for it as a great interface to television especially with Airplay. You could search for a program using Siri, start the streaming on the iPod to see if it is what you want and then use Airplay to stream it to your TV. The iPad as the video streaming and I'm not sure the latest generation iPod Touch can do the video streaming (my 2nd generation can only do sound).

GPS would be great because then the Touch becomes a complete GPS unit given Apple or 3rd party software and you can add gps tags to your photos.

Agreed. I'd love to see a new A5-based iPod Touch this year. Seeing the new Apple TV with the new smaller A5 and 512MB RAM gives me a lot of hope. I wonder when they plan to release it though.

I like it's current form factor. I've used my 64gb Gen3 Touch almost everyday since I got it. It goes everywhere with me. It's encased in an Otterbox Defender. I have been reduced to running just music, Inifinty Blade and Numbers on it, as it has my entire music library on it. It has gotten a little laggy after the upgrade to iOS 5.1, but that's life... It's served me very well in the almost 3 years I've had it. I played tons of games on it over the years. Listened to countless hours of music whilst at the gym, traveling or just hanging at home. Once it dies, I'll probably get another one.

I think we'll see that as the tech trickles down from the 4S into the iPod. It's clearly not the flagship anymore, but I think it's still an important product, and a 2-year update cycle makes sense, with trickle-down on the tech.

Nothing to see here. Unless someone wants to offer the iPhone off contract for a similar price as the iTouch, Apple isn't going to trim the line-up. The writer said himself that he has an Android phone but chooses an iTouch for music. The iPhone is the only other device that can perform all the same functions in the same way as the iTouch.

Yeah, never gonna happen. Not at this price point anyway... and it feels pretty awkward to have a phone without phone capabilities enabled.

They would never allow an iPhone to be sold at such a low price point, because it would undermine their massive profits that they get by selling a $250 device for $650, and making the carrier foot the bill.

The iPod Touch will stay around for those who choose Android, aren't old enough to have a smartphone, or the few holdouts who don't have a smartphone yet.

Didn't Jobs describe the iPod Touch as "training wheels" for the iPhone? This statement is certainly true in my case: I bought an iPhone primarily because I loved my iPod Touch but didn't love having to carry both it and a dumb phone around.

I still have the Touch: my four-year-old plays "Monkey Preschool" on it during the three hour drive to grandma and grandpa's house. :D

If apple do not sell ipod touch , it will lost a big amount of money. There are still many people who can't afford a iPhone and want to own a device like iPhone.:(. This is the reason why ipod touch should exist.

Well your idea of a lot of money and Apple's are quite different. With less than 5% of sales going to ipods it looks like the Touch is becoming a legacy device that Apple holds on to just for old times sake like the ipod Classic. Also as they sell more phones each year there is some continuing market cannibalization by adults just giving old iPhones to their kids rather than buying them new Touches. Don't get me wrong I do want to see a new one and would buy it but it's future is limited. When they brought out no new model last year I went and bought a refurbed 3rd Gen as my new Touch since I needed the 64GB storage. Unless they bring out a new model I won't have any reason to buy another one again. I'd be more likely to get a used iPhone cheap and keep it off network.
