If you want to use a kick ass cloud solution for your music. SPOTIFY!!!!!

They way the manage to blend your tracks with their library is pure genius.

Yeah, this is so cool, now the music industry can have precise statistics who listens to what how often, so they can make their commercial music based on this to make more mediocre music that is easy to listen to for the majority of the people.

And think of the possibilities. The government will be able to track who is a pontential threat because he listens to aggressive music.

Let's all upload our stuff to the cloud so that corporations can have tracks of everything we have on our computers. This is obviously good, because by selling our information to the highest bidder they can make even more money, obviously only to make better stuff for us.

Black Sabbath

Paranoid:

Finished with my woman 'cause she couldn't help me with my mind
People think I'm insane because I am frowning all the time
All day long I think of things but nothing seems to satisfy
Think I'll lose my mind if I don't find something to pacify
Can you help me occupy my brain?
Oh yeah
I need someone to show me the things in life that I can't find
I can't see the things that make true happiness, I must be blind
Make a joke and I will sigh and you will laugh and I will cry
Happiness I cannot feel and love to me is so unreal
And so as you hear these words telling you now of my state
I tell you to enjoy life I wish I could but it's too late

You watch too many movies.

The reality is... the government could care less about you unless you do something wrong like murder someone. Companies (like Apple or Google) could care less about you except to try and link your interests to other products or services you may like. Yeah... advertising... but it's a reality of life, it makes money (look at Google).

Sorry to say, other than in the movies, there are no huge conspiracies under way to destroy the world or chase you down with men in black suits based on what music you listen too.

He would love " Eagle Eye" great movie:)

I agree, nowt ore embarrassing than giving the me.com address over the phone or business card. I actually blush when doing it. @gmail.com sounds much better and not so pedantic.

As for the cloud, Im in agreement with another poster who said that it will only apply to music you have purchased via iTunes as Apple know already what you have purchased thus when it goes live it will be available immediately. Should be interesting though. Mobileme is a disaster and they have the neck to charge you for it. They should at least give you free mail access.

I have currently set up a free Gmail account and I am suitably impressed with the whole mail experience (its free & secure) the google docs is a nice little touch and if you are an incredibly light user it negates the need for iWork or MS Office.

Google seem to have a better grasp on what a person actually wants unlike Apple who force upon us what they want you to have. Next few years should be interesting. not dissing Apple I love the hardware and my Blackbook has served me well with the only problem being the top case being replaced due to the known issue of cracking. Thats more than what I can say for my old Dell desktop and Inspiron notebook. Judging on the amazing new iMac performance Im holding out for what a new MacPro may offer.

I call BS on someone who uses the forum name CplBadBoy being embarrassed about the me.com domain name. Seems like you would rather enjoy it.

I agree that Mobile Me Calendar and Email could be free. Mobile Me does offer several other services you can't find anywhere else (as far as I know) and no one offers them all combined in one place.

The biggest problem with mobile me is how bad iDisk performance is. They could not have made it any worse without trying.

Mr. Madison, what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul

So he did a pretty good job presenting RIAAs arguments then...

If you have a 16 GB Ipad or Iphone, a 8bg Ipod Touch...having free access to a music cloud can free up much needed space.

I may be overgeneralizing but I would guess most people with larger collections (8gb and up) are people who are less likely to settle for low memory devices. Perhaps this cloud will change their purchasing decisions but I doubt it.

Also, don't forget that the low end storage devices now will go away and in another 2-3 years all devices will offer at least 16 and more 32gb as entry level. The amount of space music takes up won't change.

It just seems like a lot of compromises for a little storage savings. To play your music you will need either strong 3g service to now have streaming issues or a wi-fi connection. That means paying $10 for wifi service on a plane if you want to listen to your music on your iPhone, iPad or iPT. And don't forget data caps for your iPhone service.

Amnesty

If Apple charged say $5 to upload music not purchased from iTunes (as Google and Amazon are already doing), and gave that money to the labels, it would effectively be an amnesty for downloaders--and a very smart move for the labels.

This service WILL require itunes only purchased music. Why else would they need licensing deals, if they were going to "match" your current collection to the itune cloud music then let you stream?

So if they do that they would probaly have to assure the RL's that someone cant just go download GaGa's album off a torrent and then be able to sync that with a valid license from apple.

Also this will most certainly be linked to homesharing, where you need a username and password, and you are only authorized X amount of computers.

Unlike amazon and google cloud, apples might be more data sufficient and quicker, but it will certainly be more limited and likely more expensive(they need to pay for those licensing deals somehow)

But it is genius to get in bed right away with the record label. I mean really, it is!:apple:

Interested to see how google and amazon's implementations end up panning out. I can't see any "legal" problems with them offering a music locker to stream your tunes from (whether you legally purchased them or not) but I also question why Apple is seeking permission from the record labels. A few of my thoughts:

Perhaps they will be starting a service similar to zune music pass? Monthly fee and I can stream any songs I want from the cloud without having to actually buy them.

They are just covering their asses

They are planning on hampering the service to music only purchased to iTunes for some reason

Maybe we will be able to share libraries/playlists with other iOS users/devices and they needed "sharing" permission. Would be cool to send your friends custom playlists that they could just listen to without d/ling anything.

Guess we will see soon enough.

Seeing as I've never purchased one of my many many MANY music tracks that I've purchased via all manner of formats over decades of buying things with my hard earned money.
I'd kind of sounding like this new service will be of zero use to anyone like me.
I never intend to buy any music of iTunes either.
I can go and buy hundreds or thousands or real CD's that people sell second hand (not pirate ones, but ones they no longer listen to) for just 50p (75 cents) each very easily.
That as well as all the CD's I've purchased new from stores over the years.

iTunes purchased music only will just mean I have zero use for it.
And I guess, if this was the case, if would mean anyone buying from other on-line music stores, would not be able to use that music either?

Why does everyone think that the service with the licensing, blessing and endorsement of the record labels will be BETTER than the service from the ones that pissed them off? It is far more likely to have stupid limitations at the labels insistence.

Color me skeptical until they show something better than Amazon or Google's service.

Who's to say these deals have anything to do with purchased content?

What happened to the subscription model rumors?

What would you pay to be subscribed to the entire iTunes library? Music... television shows... movies. What you want when you want it.

... just thinking out load.

that's what i'm thinking... zune pass with the ability to store your own music to the cloud? Sign me up, anything less is a disappointment imo.

Next thing you know the RIAA is going to demand anti-piracy hunts on everyone's digital locker service(Mozy, Carbonite, etc...). Just wait.:(

I personally Like Amazon's cloud

I like the cloud they have because of one thing that sets it apart from what it seems apple is doing. Amazon streams the music in a web browser. I have found that awesome as I can go to my friends house log in and simply play my playlist. I can see apple's Cloud requiring the use of iTunes for playback on the computer. I feel more comfortable logging into my amazon account then logging into iTunes on someone Else's computer. Googles cloud has not even been released yet so I can't really say anything about it.

I think Google's new approach is

Step 1: Half ass something to be first
Step 2: Wait to see what Apple does, copy it
Step 3: Say they were already doing it before Apple
Step 4: Drag any lawsuits that occur from the mess caused by their half ass start =)

when has this happened? mean isn't that what apple does all the time on ios.

apple may only allow you to import from you bought from itunes. i have a few albums in my collection from CDs,mixtapes, and torrents.

most of my library is from itunes so it doesn't matter.

What? you think that for 10 bucks a month you will have access to every song in the iTunes store? Chuck movies and TV shows too, on demand, as much as you want?, you'll be charged >$100 month.

where did you get this? And who said $10 a month, and who said movies/tv shows would be included in the price and not extra? Oh that's right... YOU made all of this up!

MOG, Rdio, Spotify, Slacker, Napster, and Rhapsody have all managed a 10 dollar a month all you can eat subscription, for music. I don't think anyone honestly thinks Apple would include movies an TV shows in the subscription.

No I don't think so. I was asking how much you would pay. So you think it's worth $100 / month it sounds like.

I would expect that music, movies and television would be different subscription levels. Don't forget, Netflix is doing pretty will with $8/month all you can consume movies and television. Do I think Apple would be the same price? No. But I think your estimate of $100 / month is pretty high.
