Whenever stories like this come out, invariably two dynamics take hold: (1) a Mano y Mano flame war will break out over whose phone has the most gigapoops or whatever; and (2) any publication daring to print anything less than wonderful news about Apple is a worthless rag engaging in felonious stock market manipulation. That pretty much summarizes about 95% of the posts in this thread.

Nothing much else to see here.

"Some additional key points that we learned:

- Apple will deliver aggressive updates to iPhone that Android/Google won't be able to keep up with
- iPad is up there with the iPhone and Mac as the most important products Jobs has been a part of
- Regarding the Lala acquisition, Apple was interested in bringing those people into the iTunes team
- Next iPhone coming is an A+ update
- New Macs for 2010 are going to take Apple to the next level
- Blu-Ray software is a mess, and Apple will wait until sales really start to take off before implementing it."

If you ask me, Apple is doing the exact opposite of what Steve Jobs would do, group everyone, tell them to get their **** together and stop being afraid to push out new radical updates. Cook has big shoes to fill, he can't fill them by not being a leader and taking risks. Steve did this so many times. That is what made Apple, Apple. A phone with only a virtual keyboard? A music player that holds thousands of songs? A tablet that can do things better then a laptop/netbook could do? Let's see something Cook. My hopes are that Ive steps up to the plate and Cook stays out of the way.

That's Apple's problem, the iPhone 5 isn't a "GREAT product" that is pleasing to consumers. I'm a longtime Apple fan, and even I am looking at buying a Samsung Galaxy SIII instead of an iPhone 5. Apple is losing it thanks in part to Tim Cook's lack of vision. As someone said above, the iPhone and iOS is a stale design.

I dunno... the iPhone 4 and 4S were the EXACT SAME DESIGN. No one complained... Apple sold more 4S than all other iPhones combined.

Now... when Apple finally changed the design... made it out of aluminum instead of glass... and gave it a proper 16:9 screen... and LTE... now it's stale?

Sheesh...

Probably a sign of people moving on from the iPhones. They were cool and cutting edge a few years ago, but the 4 was the last really revolutionary one.

There's also a completely new Blackberry 10 OS and new hardware coming at end of month and you can bet RIM is looking to make a come back. Plus you still have more Androids every day coming out and Windows phones are going to see a small surge due to Windows 8 and Surface devices. All of these phones have features that the iPhone lacks.

I like Apple and I especially like Apple's iPads, Macbook Pros, and iPods. But the phone days at Apple will be over in a year or two if they don't re-invent the phone again soon.

As if Google is a saint? I hate that company. At least Apple doesn't scan my emails or force me to open up an e-mail account to even turn the phone on the way a certain company in Mountain View, CA does.

Your not forced to use the google play store. You can install amazon apps or sideload apk files. You also can just create a new email solely for google play and not use it for any personal info.

Have you actually owned a S3? Or used one? Or discussed it with people who've owned one?

I haven't done the former, but I have done both the latter, and "laggy", "overheating" and "buggy" aren't what I've taken from the S3.

Yes I work in a phone shop and have used numerous S3 units. So no need to call me names. But go ahead.

Yeah, and last time I checked, I had to have an Apple account before I could use my iPhone and iPad.

...but I didn't have to sign up to use their email. I guess that makes all the difference in the world here.

Should of stopped here:

Desktops: Custom Linux/Win8 PC | Custom HTPC
Laptop: Samsung Chromebook 5 550
Phones: LG Nexus 4 16GB | Apple iPhone 4 8GB | Sony Xperia U 8GB
Tablets: Apple iPad2 3G 16GB | Asus Nexus 7 WiFi 32GB

so basically you havent bought any Apple product since 2010, and yet you're here insinuating Apple fan boys are trolls on MACrumors

Meh....
There comes a point when we might have met demand for smartphones....
This might go for Samsung etc as well...
Android feels clunky and has crappy apps...
I use Mac osx and like iOS.....
Microsoft has failed in smartphones and android was there for windows users....
If google had a real desktop os maybe I would be interested in android but they don't....
The rumor of a cheaper iPhone does sound good... iPhone 5 design perhaps made from plastic...

and let's not forget everyone who has a Gmail account also has a google+ account :D

Just remember how many they sold the first week out....

And every week after that, too.

People seem to forget... every single day somebody is ready to upgrade their phone.

A person only upgrades their phone once every 2 years...

But people upgrade every day.

Apple announces the first weekend sales... and then keeps quiet until the next quarterly results.

I have a feeling next week we'll hear about another record-setting quarter.

whatever...

...why rumors about a cheaper iPhone? $0.99 (on contract) for iPhone 4 isn't cheap??

blah blah blah

Because not every country uses phone contracts with free/cheap phones.

And some people don't want to spend 3-6 months (or worse) of earnings on a phone.

Has anyone thought or cared to read what competing devices stock levels are like? I do think it is stock manipulation.

Whoa. When did this happen? :O

If you preference is a laptop. thats fine.. but considering hundreds of millions of tablets have been sold over the last 3 years people like them for some reason ;)

Macbook Pro 13 inch (Mid 2012).
iPhone5 32 GB Black.
iPod touch 2nd gen.
Nexus 7 32GB.

Can thank a stale design and os for this.

Stale? Wow, what a spoiled attitude. Remember, what you see on the surface is just that... that surface. iOS under the hood continues to evolve in numerous ways. If they were to radically change the interface every so often, it would hurt the adoption of the platform. Consistency and simplicity is key. People that buy alternative platforms are mainly driven by price.

So why are your experiences so much different from everyone elses? There's a ton of Apple fans here that like their S3's.

...are they all paid shills? :O

Lemme tell ya as an ex Android fan boy who spent an extensive 8 months on XDA, you CANNOT take anything from Android fan boys srsly. Remember the "lag free" "innovative" Galaxy Nexus and ICS?

They need to introduce a brand new standard-bearing kick-ass design and redefine what the concept of a phone is supposed to look like.

Didn't they just do that? Did you miss the iPhone 5?

The iPhone 4 and 4S had the same design for over 2 years.

The iPhone 5 broke the mold and finally introduced a new design.

Day traders and hedge funds shorting this stock are loving all the propaganda. Any person actually holding Apple stock, and discussing its sale from a long-term position, deserves to get snookered into selling.

Apple's material orders are skyrocketing, not plummeting. Cook discusses China becoming the largest market and you folks are falling for the WSJ?

The US share is over $75 Billion in sales, annually, and growing. Cook is projecting over $100 Billion in sales, from China. How come? Simple population distribution models show that China has more well over 400 million potential new customers.

Not to mention that Cook recently went to China this past week in an attempt to work out an agreement with the CEO of China Mobile (the country's largest network carrier). Apple's China market has grown immensely in the past year, and that's only with the official support of China's two smaller carriers.

Once Apple secures an agreement with China Mobile (the Chinese equivalent of an AT&T)....
