I do not think I would get 700 for my 13 Pro. So went with trade in plus when doing that I get to keep the USB-C brick for the 14 Pro. When I sell on FB marketplace I usually always sell with the box and everything that came with it when I bought it. I understand I could buy the brick but to me 65 to 70 bucks isn't worth the hassle.

This is the EXACT reason I upgraded last week and did not wait. I got $720 and I knew it wouldn't last long. I went down to the regular pro. $300

I like the convenience of selling back to Apple. I always used the secondary markets, from eBay to Marketplace. but so many sketchy people out there now. I‘ve had people try to barter after receiving products, saying it was damaged, or that they would leave a bad review if I didn’t refund a portion of sale price. You can get a higher price in secondary, but you have to pay to ship it, and signature required. Apple is no games, free shipping and keep the charper, cable, packaging. The return box shows up at your door, timed with the new product delivery. Just erase the return and send nothing but the device in. No—hassle is worth the lesser price. Way worth it. And they put it back on the card that you used to purchase the new product. My time, and sanity is worth the typical hundred buck sale price difference (and that’s before shipping and my time)

Apple this week lowered its trade-in values for select iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple Watch models in the United States, resulting in customers receiving less money for their existing devices heading into the holiday shopping season.

This creates a terrible customer experience. Apple should be thanking us for our loyalty by giving us perks going into the holiday season and encouraging us to buy new products. This comes across as a very greedy move on Apple’s part.

If it sounds like I critique Apple on this site it is because I want to see Apple being successful and I want to see them cultivating relationships with their customers. If I didn’t care about Apple, or disliked the company, I would not be posting anything here.

I am not an Apple hater, I appreciate their products and I want to feel like a valued customer when I shop for Apple products.

Hmmmm… Contrast and compare:

Apple baits you with "Up to": £335
and Apple switches "Up to": £290

Music Magpie £345

£50 is £50… I know where I'll go.

If you believe Apple makes their products to make people happy, I have some ocean front property to sell you in Utah.
No, they make them to make themselves happy. Most customers are just idiots, who can't even appreciate the art and skill that went into making Apple products. But Apple employees themselves know, they made a dent in the universe.

I actually have only ever traded in one device. I usually give my two to 3 year old devices to my friends with lots of kids or my sister with three kids. They were always super happy to get a nice Apple device. (My sister’s ex was a cheap ars and only bought them bottom of the barrel Androids and wintel crap).

Does your carrier actually give you cash, or do they give you cash equivalent credit for future service? That is what T-Mobile in the states did to my wife, she was mad about it since I pay the cell bill.

For the price difference I would recommend staying with Apple. Ridiculous but safer. I just moved to the 14 PM model and did not get the trade in value on the 12 PM that I was expecting. Factoring in labor costs and the costs of diversifying manufacturing base, we likely will be seeing less given back as those funds are being used to partially pay for the effort of keeping the supply chain strong.
Also, keeping your phone for a longer period may become more relevant as we go through this recession. The global economy, post-pandemic recovery, and fluid work environments needs to be considered. My guess is that folks on the Android platform are thinking similarly.
Recent article here about Apple is focusing on costs also should be read. Thinking about MBP SKUs and the cost hikes for 3 nm will affect us 2023, to keep inflationary costs to a minimum may curb innovation and quality. My last MBP from 2019 was not pristine out of the box, and reminded me a bit how Razer operates. Now I love my Razer machine - it was my "mac" for a few years till Apple improved the laptops, and was my daily host for macOS High Sierra. Sure it had quality issues (dead pixels) and then the battery bloat. By that time eBay parts help fix the machine and now it works without a battery. It has become a great Windows 11 machine. Would I trade it in? No way.
The pandemic has taught me to accept where we are in the world, that people remain the key element to get these things done, and companies like Apple struggle to find the next growth vertical while trying to produce products that can be sold in the present market.
All of this to say I think for now we have reached "peak Apple" like we did in 2019 before M1 and for sometime the trend will be downward. M2 or M3 will be more power efficient and may offer some boosts in marginal performance while Intel catches up. If you can wait for M2 or M3 in a 14/16 inch MBP that is great. I read the future a bit more bleak, so have decided to move on to M1 Max now. Yesterday I walked in to our local Apple store and saw a bunch of paid staff standing around, and someone giving a presentation to no one. Felt weird, and confirmed my decision to not wait for M2 in the form factor of my choice. Having the ports now instead of waiting for upgraded HDMI spec in the M2 or M3 will suffice since I miss my 2014 15 inch MBP more each year.

I have had better luck selling back to Apple. They honor what they quote, but timing is everything. When a new product is launched, that's the sweetest time to do the upgrade but if you buy that same products months later, then your trade-in value drops - so waiting sometimes doesn't benefit much if you think your trade-in value holds.

The fact that you can take your device in to sell it to Apple is positive, even if you might get more selling on your own or though another service.

I sold mine on that joke of a site, eBay. Then no pay. So I sold to a company that buys them for same price I had sold on ebay. No seller fees. Better deal. Apple trade in is a joke.

I tried selling my iPhone 12 Pro Max for two months and nothing but lowballers, people who don't have the funds, people wanting to trade for junk, and scammers that disappear when I mention meeting up at the local police station.

I haven't tried Swappa but it was smooth and easy walking into an Apple store and being assured the entire trade-in process is honored, and no chance the phone got lost or stolen during shipping. I was willing to accept less money for the hassle-free convenience. The time savings alone was worth it to me.
I tried selling stuff like twice in person. Never again. So ridiculous you message like 600x about price, but they still instantly haggle you when you meet

I’ve been offered more for my ‘21 Palisade (with 36k miles) than I paid for it.

But hey, the auto trade-in market can be hard to understand — you know, like how to use apostrophes.
Yes the cars are at least up on both side. My wife totalled her car, and we go way more than we were thinking
