By "local" I mean "country". Did not I mention USA?So Apple can be a monopoly in New York, but not globally, because they are fourth on the list...is what you are suggesting?
Shipments don't equal sales.
That's not because of Apple or capitalism, that's because of the tax and societal structure of the EU.That's a good thing. A good reason for Apple to step it up and be more diverse and flexible when comes to prices and features. I still can't get over the fact how much more we pay for Apple devices in EU compared to US. So unfair. Bloody capitalism.
What keeps me from buying a Samsung is android. I am about as google free as I can be. The hardware on these phones is pretty spectacular.
So apple is a monopoly in the US even though it’s market share is second?By "local" I mean "country". Did not I mention USA?
And people make their buying decisions on the features/software. So if a critical mass wants 120mhz it would show in the sales of the iPhone 12.Apple now delays implementing technology because it would cut into it bottom line. No 90, 120hz screens, no touch id on top of line model iPhones, etc...
'Lead App Developer for Photosets, Photosets TV, & Timmy...'My $0.02, what I believe will sell well this Holiday season:
1.) iPhone 12 mini @ $699 USD
2.) Wi-Fi ONLY iPad Air 4 @ $599 USD
3.) iPhone 11 @ $599 USD
4.) iPhone 12 Pro @ $999 USD
5.) iPhone 12 Pro Max @ $1,099 USD
6.) iPhone 12 @ $799 USD
iPhone Mini might be the game changer...Iphone will remain an overpriced luxury gadget to some, but in the long run China and South Korea will be the only ones left in the game. Apple will go the way of pounds and gallons, becoming a purely national thing.
Wrong, taxes are exactly what capitalism is all about.. And you know exactly what I meantThat's not because of Apple or capitalism, that's because of the tax and societal structure of the EU.
Literally this ends the entire conversation. On point. Apple do not do the market share game anymore, they are focused on growing profitability through their services and the lower priced iPhones, iPads, Watches etc... are there to literally bring people in at lower price points and keep them in the ecosystem from there on. The longer update support etc... are all there to drive services subscriptions and keep people in s long as possible, they are playing the long game.Investors want to see profitability and margin, not volume, and that is where Apple still holds a large lead.
China is the latest and largest market for consumer goods, so it makes sense that a company that has focused on the Chinese market from day 1 would see this level of growth, with their product line having a lower margin but being more affordable.
EDIT: For anyone curious, you can Google it yourself (if you want additional sources), but one article discussing Apple vs. competitor profits in the smartphone arena:

Counterpoint

The hardware is equally ‘spectacular’ amongst Samsung and Apple, but it’s not about the hardware as much as it is the software Loyalty. What consumers are choosing is the platform, iOS or android. There is a massive reason why iOS is so dominant because of the average five year cycle of iOS updates -versus- android having approximately three, Apple trumps security over android devices and the resale value is much higher for Apple devices over other competitors.
The Google produced Android software keeps me away.
Counterpoint: Apple has 57% market share of the premium smartphone market. That's more than every competitor combined. This is absolutely phenomenal, and any other company would love to be in that spot.
The market share comparison made in this article is fairly meaningless. Apple doesn't bother to compete in the free or cheap smartphone market. Sure, that's where the volume is, but there's no profit in it, the user experience is terrible, and selling bottom of the barrel phones would diminish the brand.

iPhone Dominates the 'Premium' Smartphone Market: Report
The smartphone market was very much hurt, around the world, by the coronavirus pandemic, at least in the first quarter of the year. The research firm Counterpoint Research reported in early May that, in the U.S., sales dropped 21 percent over the same period last year. Another research firm...nationalinterest.org
Anti-trust legislation concerns itself not just with the market share. Besides, complaints about Apple monopolistic behavior are mostly about iOS app store policies where Apple share is 100%.So apple is a monopoly in the US even though it’s market share is second?
And that's the key.
No matter how pixel-dense Android screens are, or how great their cameras are, or how smooth they scroll... they'll never run iOS.
And that's what makes an iPhone an iPhone.

Yep. I just get a bit bitter that I feel Apple intentionally withholds features that other flagship phones have just to have additional selling points for next year. There’s no reason why they could not have included USB C and 120mz this year. It’s been like this for years though. Always behind competitors on latest innovations Y2Y.
Yep, that statement is all the rage on MR at this point.Anti-trust legislation concerns itself not just with the market share. Besides, complaints about Apple monopolistic behavior are mostly about iOS app store policies where Apple share is 100%.
Your mum doesn't have to , the defaults will work just fine.A lot of your suggestions would be a delight to power users, but my mom will never use or understand it.
Apple thinks of the average customer and knows how often (or rarely) they used features like 3D touch and the like. They'll go "less is more" whenever they're given the chance.
