Just a chip swap, color change, lighting to USB-C doesn’t seem to put much pressure on a professional team to me. Especially when talking about a trillion dollar company, the output is dismal.
If you think Apple should be like Samsung and constantly pumping out products hoping something will be a good idea and stick, then I’d understand why you think that. However for those of us who understand and appreciate how Apple has always worked, Gruber makes a lot of sense and I’d bet tens of thousands of dollars he’s right and Gurman’s wrong.

What products Samsung is pumping out and don’t stick?

Why would I want to spend all that money on an iPad that’s overpowered for what the Hub (which will be a lot cheaper) will do?
If you have an old iPad kicking around in a cupboard doing nothing, why buy a new device, why not repurpose the old iPad that is no longer being used?

Upgrading your iPad? If the trade-in on the old one is less than the hub, when it appears, why not keep the old one and use it as a hub?

It isn't about going out and buying a new iPad Pro, just to stick it on a wall, there are lots of cases where an existing iPad might no longer be used or not quick enough for all apps, but would be fine for hub duties and be spared from landfill for another couple of years...
