Tim Cook is the worst thing to happen to Mac since Mac.
Tim is managing the company, not providing every level of guidance regarding the creativity and product design, etc. Others in the company are contributing as equally if not more when it comes to any lackluster designs or release schedule. The company is stable, extremely profitable, and still coming out with innovative products. Tim's job is to maintain the creative culture, encourage and foster new ideas from others within the company, work the supply chain, and be the public-facing representative. He's done a pretty good job at that.

I'm hoping Apple comes on stage next year to say that they've been having "problems" keeping the Mac up-to-date because of third party suppliers and they will now be making their own CPUs and GPUs for new Macs going forward. Their chip team is incredible and the desktop computing industry overall hasn't been keeping pace in recent years. Otherwise arn might need to be looking into alternative domain names for MACrumors.com because this isn't sustainable.

Maybe they need to stop being stubborn and start listening to what customers want? They could pull off that kind of attitude 10 years ago when PCs were complete garbage so apple customers didn't even consider making the switch. But have you looked at what Dell, HP and Lenovo are putting out these days? The competition has seriously stepped up their game and are quickly becoming a compelling option for people who are not tied to final cut. If they don't start designing systems that people have been asking for and cutting their prices a bit, they are gonna lose a ton customers.

This pretty much tells the whole story:
1999 iMac G3 -----> 2008 iMac Aluminum Wow....you can see the progress (G3, G4, G5, Intel)
2009 iMac ------> 2018 iMac Still looks the same

2007 iPhone ------> hold it in one hand, use index finger on other hand to select.
2018 iPhone ------> same thing.

Why do people have a need to buy EVERY SINGLE ITERATION OF THAT Ridiculously overpriced phone?

When VCRs came out 30+ years ago, they were thousands of dollars for the early adopters, then once everyone had one, they were $200. Original iPhone comes out, and they're $500 (unsubsidized) and after selling a billion of them, they're double the price. WTH?!?!?!

I just replaced my 2008 MacBook with a 2017 MBP, and when my 2009 iMac 27' dies, it won't be replaced.
See you again in 10 years, Apple.

They are focussing on driving increased revenue through higher average profit per unit on the iPhone and trying to push customers towards their service offers.

The results suggest this is working.

As I said elsewhere, my view is this is a short term strategy, but you can't deny that right now, it's working.

So why would they worry about the Mac in that context?

I wonder what type of computers Apple employees use to design those high-profit mobile devices and confusing cloud systems? Hmmmmmm...... Maybe Mac Mini's and MBAs are good enough, as those represent IMHO the best value Apple computers currently...

You mean the relatively small (compared to Apple's target audience) handful of people who hang out on tech forums and throw childish tantrums because Apple does not make a computer tailored to their exact needs, thicker and resplendent with 20+ year old USB-A ports?

The recent MBPs were just released and not included in Apple's most recent quarter. And calendar year 2018 is barely half over.

I’m like others. I still say Apple could sell a ton of machines if they would make either an iMac with easily upgradable parts or a nice stylish small tower/ screen combo. People still purchase separates. Something like the Mac Mini but a tad larger with better parts that are easily upgraded

... and in other news, people are far more likely to be seen carrying an umbrella when there is rain forecast for that day.

I would rather say it's the price and also for some people the TouchBar. I mean, the new MBP with 500SSD is 3.300 Euros here in Germany, and with 32GB-Ram its almost 3.8k. For that kind of money, i would love to have a choice, choice to buy it without the TouchBar, cause i need my F-Buttons, for programming etc. I still use the 2015 MBP but in a year or two i will seriously need to sit down and think about maybe changing to a Windows Laptop, if they don't give me what i need, and i don't think that will happen.

I’m gonna hold my critic until the fall, when we’ll see what’s new and how much the updates are.
Low sales now is nothing strange now. Folks just love drama.

Personally I’m not in any need for updating my Mac, just yet.
But looks forward to see how much the updates will be.

What's the new display technology that will allow such a radical change in form factor as CRT -> LCD?

“They need to?”

Why? Isn’t the goal of a company to make money? They seem to be having no trouble with that.

Make compromised products that aren't the actual products people were asking for, don't be surprised when you sell less.

And I don't think Apple is surprised... hence the increase to price to make up the difference in revenue.

No excuse for the shameful lack of hardware updates these past few years. I sadly have to agree they just haven’t considered the Mac a priority. People want Macs, I know many who just have kept holding out for a “meaningful” refresh in one way or the other.

Guess we should have seen that way back when they dropped “Computer” from the company name heh.

Somebody said the imac pro was an update. No, it was a new, unaffordable desktop all-in-one. I can afford it but it isn’t going to happen for home. My husband’s workplace would never buy that for him. So he is waiting for a mini to get a viable upgrade.
