Obviously i think this is fake,

the quote "Should auld acquaintance be forgot" may be refering to the fact that Apple inc. has lost 'computer' from it's name. The poem is about remembering old aquaintances, it's use in this context implying that this event will be about the computer part of apple.

Anyway, thats what i think the faker was thinking.:p

Apple wouldn't release anything that badly produced.
Also, the person who posted this thread has been a member since...this month, and has no other posts, a little suspicious.

A little Time Machine-ish.

Google'd the quote, and one link led to this. Happens to be an excerpt from the song 'Days of long ago' by Auld Lang Syne.

Thoughts?

The "Song" is called Auld Lang Syne. And it's not a song. It's a poem, written by a Scottish poet named Robert Burns. It's most often heard at New Years. It's not called "Days of long ago".

Right. Remember what the therapist said. Count to ten. 1, 2, 3, 4....

Okay. I'm willing to kiss and make up. Sorry I lost it. It's just that Robert Burns day was only two days ago, and I have a hard time seeing his memory fade from the cultural conversation.

Gin a body meet a body, coming thro' the rye...

I agree. ROBERT BURNS.

Also

Moscone West is too big a venue for product announcements. Good for conferences and all their sessions in its many rooms, but totally inappropriate for this. Plus, doesn't Apple usually do special events in a theater or community center in the south bay? Also, Moscone events are typically scheduled way in advance, so Apple probably couldn't get the venue on short notice.

Ask Moscone Center

Why doesn't somebody call Moscone Center and verify whether an event is scheduled. Instead of calling and asking "Is there an Apple event of Feb 1" (which will likely cause the response of "we can't give out that info"), call and say "I am scheduled to deliver some equipment for Apple's Feb 1 event and would like details on where I can park my truck". If they say "there is no event" then you know the invite is fake. If they tell you what to do, then it is real. :)

lol, way too much work of course! ;)

They'll probably tell you EXACTLY where you can park your truck! ;)

I'm surprised no one pointed this out already;

No event the 1st.

Sorry for the caps, but HOW CAN YOU PEOPLE BE UNFAMILIAR WITH THIS SONG? I'm absolutely floored by the ignorance. It's in practically every goddamn movie set in the Christmas holiday season. It's still sung by people at New Year celebrations.

Get away from your computers and live a bit. Please. And research a bit before forming an opinion and throwing in your two cents.

MWSF is always around new years and this years was the Mac World without the Mac. I give it 50/50. It does seem like a play on words thing Apple would use. I bet 99% of those who know the "new years song" think the word sung is old instead of the auld, so it's pretty recognizable. Apple needs something to showcase Leopard and updated Mac Pros.

If this is real, shouldn't the message read "Should old acquaintance be forgotten..." instead of "Should old acquaintance be forgot..."? I guess Apple's done this before with "Think Different," though.

I believe this invitation's fake, but I do think it's very likely that Apple will host an event between now and March.
Actually, the way it is written is correct:

"Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
and never brought to mind?
Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
and auld lang syne?"

^ As was written by the poet Burns himself.

Oh and I call fake as well. It's one of the worst done in recent times. Apple would never let a badly blurred logo be published. That and they haven't used the same design in an invitation before (this one closely mirrors the iPod Shuffle Jeans invite). Plus it's not even on the Moscone Convention center site as being booked.

Fake...

at first I thought it might be real, but after putting the "itunesphoneinvite" pic (the invite with the jeans) side by side with it, it becomes clear that someone tried and failed. 1. the email address on a real one is RSVP_events@apple.com and the fake one is events@apple.com. next, as pointed out, the font is wrong. 3. The size of the picture (not the directions) is too small, and there is toomuch white space around the pic. Finally, the :apple: logo is fuzzy. Oh ya...and one truly final blow is pic is in .png format...which unless that's how apple sends it...is the default photoshop format (as you all know).

Um, the default Photoshop format is its own PSD, not PNG. Maybe you're thinking of Macromedia Fireworks?

This came from a member who has made only 2 posts. Both on this post.

Fake.

Well, I saw some confirmations by people over the Web as well...might be true after all, especially considering that the sentence is not really that easy to be faked...and old acquaintances are exactly what was forgotten at the last MW...Macs.

If it is, then what's interesting to me is the poor quality of the invitation. Go :apple: !!

What font did the Newton use?

Meant to post this sooner, but got too busy. I'm surprised nobody noticed this before, though.

People have commented that the font is "wrong" b/c they used Gill Sans.

But Apple *HAS* used Gill Sans before--in the marketing and logo for the Newton.

Fits with the song quote, too :)

I really do think that the invite could really only be a Newton related launch and make sense. Although, a new full screen iPod with multi-touch and a "Newton built in" would be pretty cool and a nice upgrade to the iCal integration that is kind of crap now due to the inability to input.

It would also make the iPod compete with the PDA market instead of cutting into the iPhone market. Talking about leopard on the same day would also be a good idea as you'd imagine the upgrade to iCal and iLife could be discussed in relation to iPod/iPhone integration.

I still think the invite is fake, but I come here to discuss rumors so I'm glad it was posted.

I think its fake too, however they could also be referencing the Beetles on iTunes. :apple:

No event the 1st.

Is no one else looking at this? Straight from the convention event listings.

02/02/07 - 02/10/07 International Stroke Conference 2007 Moscone West Convention / Tradeshow

Clearly, this is a reference to Apple and new product price cuts. It's as clear as can be. Finally we get the strokes we've had coming...
