6 billion spent with 0 subscriber so far.

15 billion by netflix with very stable base... Sorry Apple, you will flop hard here.
Uh...no. Their base is anything but stable. They've over spent on originals, lost the license to the content people cared about, and raised prices twice in less than 12 months. Netflix is at the start of a death spiral.

I'm going to be amazed if there is even one show I'm interested in watching.
Thing is, people don't sign up for these services to "give things a chance". They sign up for the content they know and like, and then while they have it, they give the originals a chance.

Apple has absolutely zero chance of charging anything for this service and having it succeed. Zero. It is missing every single incentive of every single other video platform.

You know what “See” humans would be called if such an event happened in the real world?

“All you can eat buffet” for every wild and feral animal (and a few humans) on the planet. They might survive a month.

I’m all for willing suspension of disbelief, but this premise is ludicrous for even a dollar an episode.

So for Morning Show and See...money flush big time.

"The cost for "The Morning Show" has apparently exceeded the $15 million per episode that HBO spent on the final season of "Game of Thrones." "

And look how great the final season of GOT turned out... oh wait.

wtf, $6 billion - does one of the shows consist of lighting a couple hundred million in a bonfire each episode?

The named actors salaries most likely...though frankly most of them are kinda done...

IMO comes down to price. If Apple charges too much, it might be a disaster. They have to be the same as Netflix. $12p/m.
Another idea is a master subscription plan with Music, ATV+, storage, News, etc at $30 for a family of 4. That one might be enticing.

From what I’ve seen/read, Apple looks to have good actors, writers, and production. If the stories are good, they should have some quality content. It all just depends on if people are willing to spend for another streaming service. Apple Music started late and has become a success, I’m not ready to say Apple TV+ will be a failure just yet.

coulda bought time Warner. Elects to spend 6 billion and counting on crap instead. Good luck Apple. Bad choice after bad choice. No experience in this. Poor history of doing things outside their wheelhouse.

Will flop badly since there’s no way they’ll profit on this. So dumb. So desperate.

Just not sure I get it. This is a pure hope-for-profit play in an area way outside AAPL's wheelhouse in an attempt to continue to add shareholder value when your main business has truly flattened out. What great hardware/software could have come out of a $6bn investment there? And why spend his money on something that will be forgotten in 10 years? Great hardware and software can be revolutionary and life-changing, but television shows always die and fade over time. Just not something you build a lasting legacy on.
Wall Street is obsessed with so-called services and recurring revenue streams. I’m sure with slowing hardware sales the executive team thought how do we make money off of this huge base of existing customers. And Tim Cook loves it because it pleases Wall Street.

Cant say Disney plus interests me. Lots of content not even ready til 2020 or 2021. Existing content? I own the movies that I’d have any interest in. Kids (mine) don’t care about Disney either.

Apple I’ll wait on. But wow. 6 billion and they’ll never recoup that with their service alone. Better sell some channel subs.

Agreed, hard to recoup 6 billion with just a handful of shows.

Disney plus could be good but then again I enjoy marvel and Star Wars stuff :)

I think people will come for these shows and stay for the fox catalog and kids films.

Only time will tell.

Cook is Apple’s version of Balmer without Gates checking his moves.

What new problem is Apple trying to solve for consumers and the business of content? How is Apple pushing the envelop? There is no comparison between this and SJ’s iPod/iTunes. It’s just brand and Apple’s managers growing fad over show biz.

This is gonna pop.

Only chance I see is getting into the Chinese market, which Netflix has not been able to tap yet. Will this be released worldwide at launch? Netflix is available almost everywhere and has 150m subscribers. 6bn equals revenue of 50m yearly subscribers...

I absolutely love and adore all the expert naysaying and handwringing here. So predictable!

So make a case for it then. And don't say it's to strengthen "the ecosystem".

Apple executives plan to produce what they believe is beyond existing player's capability. Whether that turns out to be arrogance will soon be seen.

My guess is they grunt out a few productions that are not outright horrible and then start to lose interest when it becomes clear Apple content is nothing special.

Well I appreciate the optimism

In the other thread people were complaining Apple weren’t spending enough if they wanted great content.

Apple have the capital and it’s not like they need to have been in TV/film before as it’s all third party anyway. They just need to ensure there aren’t creative restrictions (which seems to be the case based on what Cue said) and there’s no reason this couldn’t take off as a result.
Welcome to Macrumors lol

Unless Apple plans to bundle this with Disney's streaming service 9.99 isn't worth it based on the already announced shows. They need to add more to show value.
