Starting today, the Apple Sports app on the iPhone is available in 36 additional countries across the Caribbean and Latin America, including Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Peru, and others.

Apple Sports first launched in the U.S., Canada, and the U.K. in February 2024, and it later expanded to Europe and Mexico. The app shows scores, stats, standings, upcoming games, and more for a variety of leagues and competitions. With the Caribbean and Latin America expansion, the app is now available in 80 countries.

Also as of today, the app now supports the following six Latin men's soccer (fútbol) leagues:
  • Campeonato Brasileiro Série A
  • Categoría Primera A
  • Liga de Primera
  • Liga Pro
  • Liga Profesional de Fútbol
  • Primera División del Perú
In the "Search" section of Apple Sports, there is a new "Soccer" category that contains all of the soccer leagues that are available in the app.

Finally, Apple says fans can now follow men's and women's NCAA tournaments in real time, with brackets showcasing matchups and results at a glance for each round.

These changes arrived in version 3.8 of the app, which is available now in the App Store.

I still wish this was less tailored to US sports interests. Will that section still be called "soccer" when the app is released outside the US?

Here's dreaming this will be a good app for following the Olympic Games. The official apps always have loads of performance and UX issues.

Flash Scores leaves this app in the dust. The Live Activities are great but I'm unsure what purpose this serves, surely Apple would be better partnering with others who do this better if it's close integration they are after.

Another "maps" like app taking a decade to be barely useful? They are so far behind any 3rd party one, that I don't even know why they bother at this pace.

still no Apple News in Brazil
And still no way to use the app on macOS . With iPadOS, you can at least use the iOS version. On Mac, no options at all.
No tablet support, ether.
At least on iPad you can use the iOS version . macOS doesn't even have that. 0 options . (It forces me to add a pic to replyreply0View attachment 2607368View attachment 2607368

As someone who always tries to use Apple's own apps (for optimization) I quite like the simplicity of the Sports app. However, as others have mentioned it is behind in many areas when compared to others like Fotmob/Sofascore at least when it comes to football. I want to see metrics like field tilt/match momentum as well as a lineup of the team in formation with player ratings that Fotmob does really well. It feels very catered towards American sports where listing the team is common but seeing the team in formation would be far more useful for "soccer" fans.

I like this app, no adds and a very nice live ticker which pops up automatically on my iphone and even on my car with carplay. I use it for the champions league and the bundesliga. A few statistics are odd, but thats minor.

What about supporting local football leagues in the newly added countries? Or other sports, like skiing or local hockey instead of NHL only.

I downloaded the app after having read this article, but it doesn’t support iPads, either and, as said no local sports, just the usual big leagues in football, hockey…

Well, maybe they’ll add some more in the future. Until then, it’s not of much use to me.
