Just in time for the start of the NBA and NHL playoffs this weekend, the Apple Sports app has received a new Game Card Sharing feature.

With this feature, Apple Sports users can generate and share game cards for all supported leagues, whether the matchup is upcoming, live, or completed. The game cards can be shared via iMessage, on social media, and elsewhere. In addition to the NBA and NHL, the feature will be available for MLB, MLS, Formula 1, and more.

Apple's example screenshots show a game card for the recent Memphis Grizzlies vs. Golden State Warriors play-in game, complete with the final score.

The feature is available starting today, with no app update required.

Launched in February 2024, the Apple Sports app shows scores, stats, standings, upcoming games, and more for a variety of leagues. The free app is currently available on the iPhone only, in the U.S., the U.K., and Canada.

I would love an iPad version. I am not a hard core sports person and find the app to be enough for my needs.

So far, I have watched the F1 races after the live event and so didn't get to see how the live updates worked. Coming to Miami soon and am curious to see how the televised broadcast and live updates mesh. I find that with most events Apple is ahead of the televised broadcast.

Running the latest iOS and latest Apple sports app. When I hit the share icon and try to text it I just get a link to the Apple sports for that game. Looks nothing like the pictures here.

That must be one of the apps I deleted, like invites and all of the other crap that I don’t need. :)

Lots of people follow the premier league in Ireland but the app isn't available here. No surprise there isn't even ONE Apple store in the entire Republic of Ireland despite Apple basing it's EU software operations here. Go figure.

I mean there’s much larger markets that also don’t have one.
I guess they wouldn’t do it until they get GAA sports but the demand is tiny worldwide.
Australia misses out on lots of these things because they don’t want to add NRL and AFL.

The fact that it’s not available to more countries is laughable. Apple always ignores other countries. Google will always beat them when it comes to software being available to more of their own users.

Typically because googles business is harvesting data.
I’m not saying apple shouldn’t be better but there’s an obvious reason for the discrepancy.

The fact Apple needs to invest in these kinds of things seems weird.

Apple should focus on making the best OS and developer tools and make sure their third party developers can thrive.

Instead of making this stuff themselves.

Needs a lot of work still before I make it my go to sports app. I won't bore you with what I want, but I do like how its ad free.
It still has some way to go, but it’s becoming much better.
The last few Newcastle United games it has updated faster than Flash score, and shown a clock ahead of them. Flash score is usually the place to go.
It still needs more support for other competitions, especially in football (soccer to you guys), but it’s improved massively in the last few months.

They should have really bought Flash score or at least partnered with them, although they have outperformed them recently in terms of speed for my team. Flash score would have given them a blanket of live coverage of pretty much every sport, every competition, in every country overnight though.

You can see why Apple are doing this though, they will be aiming for more sports coverage for Apple TV+ in the coming years.

Good to know about this but still waiting for it to be available in my region. Not sure when I can expect it.
