Sorry Apple but this has to be the biggest joke ever. £55 for a thumb drive with lion on it!

Still cheaper than Windows on a DVD.

there selling it for so much because this is primarily aimed at Leopard users who before this needed to upgrade to Snow Leopard (~$35) then buy Lion of the AppStore. For those select few this has been the only way since about 2 weeks before Lion was launched

this question has been around for a while with the macbook air USB's. ive always wanted to do it but apparently they have almost no, or none at all, writing capability. maybe these will be different but its unlikely

Apparently people have done it and posted instructions on the web. I've just downloaded the program and will try it when I get my Lion flash drive.

collector's item.
guaranteed.
first usb os upgrade for mac, in the heart of the mac boom, before the mac bust. (that's another story)

Keep it and make a few thousand chinese bucks in 25 years. also, ronald reagan will be president! What, the actor? Yes, him!!!!!!! The Future, future.

naughty naughty Apple - that seems a load way too much - you can make your own for less than £30

Um, not if you don't have broadband to get Lion in the first place.

Basically they've charged someone £35 extra because they have a poor broadband connection, something that is all to common in the rural parts of the UK. I just think the markup is to high.

I myself managed to download the update as I luckily live in a town, yet my friend who wanted it in a nearby village had to try and download it on his 256kbps connection, needless to say it took forever.

As i said always room for whining.

Don't you get it?

This IS NOT about the flash drive price. This is about the LICENSE!!

Downloadable Lion is $29 but requires Mac App Store which requires Snow Leopard which is another $29.

So, the total expense to get the downloadable Lion is $58 not $29.

This USB stick, however, DOES NOT require Mac App Store nor Snow Leopard; Tiger or Leopard users can install Lion through this USB stick, without purchasing Snow Leopard.

So, it's not $29 vs. $69 but $58 vs. $69. The USB Stick with an Apple logo on it costs only $11, and it ships for FREE.

Think, folks. THINK!!

Common sense to the rescue. :)

I will purchase this out of the principle that we should always have a physical media option. A year ago I would have had NO ability to download Lion, since I was exclusively using a limited 3G mobile internet.

It's still cheaper than Leopard.

The cost of Mac OS is included in the price of machine itself, $69 is for the Lion upgrade. You can't compare it to the full price of Windows OS.

Sorry Apple but this has to be the biggest joke ever. £55 for a thumb drive with lion on it!

Sorry Apple but this has to be the biggest joke ever. 129€ for a DVD with Leopard on it!

Sorry Microsoft but this has to be the biggest joke ever.299€ for a DVD with Windows 7 Ultimate on it!

Talk about retarded exchange rate!

$69 != £55

$69 = £42

Gotta love Apple Tax. Especially since you were able to buy a Snow Leopard DVD for £25.

Can it be used on more than one machine (with different iTunes accounts), aka a pseudo Family License?

By that logic the USB stick should allow you to install Snow Leopard then ;)

In addition, that just backs up the fact that Lion is really NOT a new OS. Its a patch for Snow Leopard that adds 1 application (Launchpad) and apples a few (pointless/minor) tweaks to the UI.

We're really all just running Mac OS X 10.6 Service Pack 1 :D

Not this again, 42+ taxes...

£42 + tax = £48. Still not £55 ;)

Very pointless post there buddy. If you're going to slate me at least backup your posts with why you think I have no clue. Until you can do that, try not to make yourself look stupid again. ;)

Edit: Interestingly if you read USER reviews on neutral websites (I.E not on Apple fan sites because they are understandably bias) you'll find most people are very underwhelmed with Lion. A quick google search for OS X Lion review threw the following link up as the first result. Read the USER reviews in the comments section. http://www.techradar.com/reviews/pc...ng-systems/apple-os-x-10-7-lion-982954/review

When you take your head out of the iClouds its actually a pretty poor update, not worthy of a complete new OS. Apple boasts 250 new features. What they don't tell you is that those features include the most minuscule of changes, like increasing the font size by 1pt in Finder results, and widening the spotlight search bar.

Don't bother arguing back to me about how awesome it is until you've pulled your head of of your....

So you should backup yours first, pal.

That shows clearly you "having" the clue.
