Why do the secondary sites(ishipit,packagetrackr) have this information, while the UPS site shows no further updates. And what the hell is it doing in South Korea

I'm going to answer that question... AT&T sucks. I got rid of my first generation iPhone because it was more like an iPod Touch. I couldn't get signal anywhere. There are tons of options for using your existing data connections with the WiFi only version. I certainly am not going to waste $130 on 3G that I cannot access.

You would think Apple or UPS would release a statement clarifying this. It is a really easy answer for one of them.

UPS perhaps but not Apple. Because they made their statement right when you ordered. If Saturday delivery is available, you get it then. If not, then on Monday. the IF is in UPSs hands.

Also, the ordering system can't be set to block expedited shipping fees based on items in the order. This is an issue with all "street dated" releases. So when Apple starts the ship outs they reverse the fees where applicable. So those that ordered by the deadline will get a refund.

Although it doesn't explain why anyone would have selected rush shipping when the release date was firm. but oh well.

Strange Shipping "date" on my order

My order simply shows "Shipping: April" All the accessories have a firm (actual?) shipping date and delivery date, but the iPad itself simply says April?!?

Oh well, I didn't make the April 3 deadline, so I assume it will ship next week or the following Monday.

You would think that after a full week of this discussion people would finally realize that the tracking information from UPS and iShip is worthless. My iPad has not moved since I first got the tracking information, yet on Packagetrackr it has consistently said it is in Louisville.

My guess is that my iPad is on its way to Chicago for delivery tomorrow -- just what you would have expected. If I thought UPS's information was accurate I might be in the same panic as a lot of folks here. But does it really seem possible that everyone's iPad is in China or on some plane forever stuck over the ocean?

Pretty Well Convinced - Saturday is a Go

I spoke with a very nice rep from UPS International early this morning. She carefully verified my tracking number and double checked my zip code, then told me Saturday delivery IS available in my area and my package will get to me tomorrow. Because I know Ground is not available here on Saturdays, that pretty well tells me that this will be an Express shipment (that and the fact that it says so on the UPS tracking site, but can we really believe anything THERE right now?) So, while it appears that the thing has been sitting in Louisville for several days, I'm guessing I'll get up tomorrow morning and it will say "Out for Delivery". I've been good, so Santa owes me.

Just posting an update. So, my address does NOT have Saturday delivery. BUT, all is not lost. In having the greatest UPS driver EVER, he agreed to meet inside of one of the nearby areas that IS covered, for me to pick it up there instead. Epic WINRAR if you ask me.

...and still I wait....both package trackr and UPS still say billing info received and it hasn't scanned out at any points along the way yet. I called UPS Int'l (clueess....she couldn't even tell me if logistically it was possible to ship from China today and arrive in NJ tomorrow), and Apple and I'm still not convinced I'll see this tomorrow. I'll be really pissed if it doesn't show up as I would've made the trip to an Apple store to pick it up if I truly thought this would be so annoying.

Please remember guys that these iPads are coming from China in large consolidated shipments. As in hundreds of pallets full of boxes all clear-wrapped together. Once they get to the distribution centers they will break down the consolidations into individual packages and then they will be addressed and shipped out to us.

Just a note, if it wasn't obvious, all this tracking information is bunk. Your iPad is likely in the closest warehouse, waiting until Saturday morning to move out.

Seeing as the tracking system is public info and someone could try all kinds of games to try to figure out locations and rob those warehouses, I totally believe they would randomly F'up the info. Heck anyone with half a brain would guess that there's a bunch of nuts posting their locations etc on forums like this one. making it real easy to get info

Just ask if you have Saturday delivery in your area, and give them your zip code. They can confirm whether you are eligible for Saturday delivery.

Just be careful cause there's Saturday delivery as a norm and Saturday as a paid more choice and then nothing. Make sure you clarify. When I lived out in the desert I called claiming I needed to ship a package to my zip and was told no. but when I asked about paying they said hey, for a fee they could do it but it's not a regular route. This was about 3 years ago but I imagine it's probably the same

But, when Apple slips 10-100 million dollars under the table

there's no under the table about it. UPS and FedEx both have very above board programs in place for this.

Also you claim FedEx is cheaper etc. But do you know that for fact. Do you know that they don't do this kind of thing on a bid and UPS was lower.

Or that perhaps there was some other issue with FedEx that knocked them out of the running. Perhaps they didn't have the levels of security and handling that Apple wanted. Perhaps they were the carrier that had all those custom order 27" imacs that were tossed around and damaged in route to customers and not giving them this huge delivery gig is a form of payback

Or are you basing this on what you a regular Joe would be charged by each company to ship a package that size and upgrade to a Saturday delivery.

There is a lot of odd shipping information going on, but I have never had an issue with Apple when they guaranteed Release-Day delivery (Leopard, Snow-Leopard, and iPhone 3gs). I see no reason why this would be botched. While it is weird that mine only left china today, I am not upset yet.

Absolutely! This guy is getting a fair sized tip from me, that is a great sign of great customer service, and if I EVER have to ship anything the other way, I'll most likely go UPS.

So, two of my four ipads just changed status from:

IMPORT SCAN on 4/2/10 at 14:00

So, they really ARE going to overnight these things around the country like CHRISTMAS EVE for delivery tomorrow.

What a colossal waste of time and energy.

So, maybe Apple knew what it was doing when it chose UPS. I called them after I saw the same exception in KY that all of you were seeing. They transferred me to a special department and an extremely nice woman said exactly the following:

"So, you're pretty excited about the Ipad I see. Well, don't worry it will be there guaranteed by 7pm on Saturday"

I didn't tell her anything other than the package number so they're either getting a lot of calls about this and have dedicated folks to answering peoples concerns, or they have worked something out and have a dedicated team to make sure the launch goes well.

Either way, I'm stoked, Ipad's coming tomorrow!
