Than why doesn't the iPad 2 have Siri ? It's got a microphone also? Argument doesn't make sense. iPad 2 has a5 processor and it's clocked at a higher speed than iPhone 4S.

I don't know why the iPad 2 doesn't have Siri. I never made any argument against that. I was speaking solely on what the OP had mentioned in the thread title. I'd personally love to see Siri on the iPhone 4 or even 3GS and on the iPad 2.

It's a marketing decision. Putting Siri on older, existing products will hurt the current (4S) and future model (5, ipad 3) sales. Not going to happen.

That would be nice, one of the main reasons I want the 4s is because of Siri. Whether it comes to the 4 or not wont affect my decision to get the 4s at all, I still want the better camera (huge selling point for me) and faster processor. The best thing is that it is in the iPhone 4 form factor, which is my favorite looking phone. And since Siri has so much potential, it'd be great for those that still have 4's to be able to use that functionality. My parents are impressed at what I've told them it can do haha it'd be even better for them to be able to use it sooner than later

I think they will put it on only iPad 3 and keep it on only iPhone 4S.

They want to use SIRI was selling points for the two new devices not on the older models despite the A4 able to use it as well as the A5 on the iPad 2.

It'll probably stay on the iPhone 4S with A5 and go on iPad 3 with A6

They could add it later on once the 4S has sold well and the current Iphone 4 model is only 8GB so the selling point of the "S" is 16GB+ storage.

And the dual core A5 chip, better camera, 1080p video recording with stabiliser, and improved antenna design?

Siri is not a reason to buy the 4S, I still say the A5 is a better reason.

Also, Siri is one of the components of Steve's "thermonuclear" war on Android.

Siri to take on Google Voice, and soon new maps using C3's purchased tech to replace Google Maps.

The A4 chip can handle it. It's not about power. It's either;

1) Apple's servers would take too much strain (which would make sense, considering Siri has been down multiple times)

or

2) money.

or both.

Really? They won't sell so many 4S's and will be selling iPhone 4's? I don't think so, with only an 8gb model available for the iPhone 4 I don't think it will hurt the 4s sales.

Not to mention, if they put allow it on early models for a fee, that's money in their pockets.

This^^

Apple could always charge $20 or $30 for it. I think there are two issues: As mentioned above, the servers are already overloaded and adding millions more would overload them even more. The other issue is having Siri available for IP4 might discourage some folks from upgrading to 4S. Although they would make some money charging for Siri for IP4, it is nothing like the money to be made off people buying 4S.

What might conceivably happen is Apple waits until 4S sales slow way down (6 months?) and THEN offer Siri for 4S.

I think they will bring Siri to the iPhone 4 but till they release iOS 5.1 probably till the iPad 3 is released this January-April. And people that are complaining that iPhone 4 owners maybe 3GS owners might get it, are hypocrites because in June there going to see how it sucks to be left out something cool ! And if you paid full price for it maybe you shouldn't of gotten it !
P.S the night before I read the article I had a dream of me waking up and talking to Siri so I hope my dream was a vision lmao

Since Siri is a major feature and selling point for the iPhone 4S there is no way the iPhone 4 will get it. The only way to get Siri if you have an iPhone 4 will be to sell your iPhone 4 and buy an iPhone 4S.

Apple isn't very good at supporting 'old' products. I expect they want Siri as an inducement to upgrade.

Apple is among the best at support old products. I remember on my old android phone I had to wait a 6 months to get a small update and I never got gingerbread on it.

Interesting. They have supposedly been test siri on some employees iphone 4's recently. If this turns out to be true ill be happy. It doesn't surprise me they would release it after the initial launch of the 4S in all countries. That way they still got all the initial orders for the new phone.

it should not take place on iphone 4. or no one will purchase the 4s instead..

Give us peace.

Siri is NOT the main reason to buy a 4S, it is NOT the premier feature.

FaceTime was the iPhone 4's "one more thing", it was made out to be an exclusive feature and it soon found it's way onto iPod, iPad, and Mac.

The A5 processor and improved still/video camera are far bigger reasons to buy a 4S.

To the people pointing out the processor as the bottleneck to getting Siri on the iPhone 4, they just got Siri working on a 3GS phone flawlessly.

Hmm, are you thinking of one of Apple's suppliers there? Apple has been great at keeping old products up to date and has been getting remarkably better. If you have an iPhone 4, there is no big reason to upgrade to the 4S, which makes sense as most iPhone 4s are on 2 year contracts. There haven't been massive complaints about iOS 5 performance on the 3GS (which they didn't really have to update anyway).

I think hardware is the main pull for the 4S but I would pay to install Siri on my 4, if apple makes it available.

I don't think you speak for everyone.

I use Siri or Dictation more than 20 times per day.....the camera only very rarely.....the A5 is especially slick for two apps that are apparently benefitting from the extra power...and by far the most important thing I like about my new phone; BETTER RECEPTION. The better reception is mostly because I no longer have dead spots now that I left AT&T and went to Verizon.

Or...

Apple is testing the servers with the 4S before opening it up to the 4. They are already overloaded with just the 4S, I can't imagine how often it would go down if the 4 had access to Siri.
