Apple is planning more Mac refreshes for the rest of the year, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman writes.

Mac-Studio-Feature.jpg

In the latest edition of his "Power On" newsletter, Gurman said that, following the introduction of the M5 MacBook Air, M5 Pro and M5 Max MacBook Pro, and MacBook Pro, Apple is preparing for further Mac refreshes to complete the 2026 lineup.

These include an upgraded Mac Studio, which Gurman expects to arrive in the middle of 2026, followed by new iMac and Mac mini models. While the new Mac Studio and Mac mini "will look identical to the current iterations," the 2026 iMac will feature a "refreshed color palette."

A new, high-end MacBook, potentially called the "MacBook Ultra," is expected to arrive around the end of the year. It will feature the Mac's first touchscreen and an OLED display.

Although Gurman did not mention chips, the new Mac Studio is likely to feature the M5 Max chip and either an M4 or M5 Ultra chip, the Mac mini will probably offer M5 and M5 Pro variants, and the iMac is almost certain to get the M5 chip.

MacBook Ultra? Im surprised they didn't name it MacBook Wing Zero, since we're going for fictional sci-fi.

I miss the good old days

MacBook - Base model, value oriented
MacBook Air - More premium, oriented for users that want a thin and light experience
MacBook Pro - Most premium, oriented for enthusiasts and professionals.

So wait a minute the new MacBook Pro with the redesign an OLED isn’t really a new model. It’s just an extension of the MacBook lineup so the M5 is gonna continue this year. I thought this was the next MacBook Pro M6. This is going to be confusing now and way much expensive

There’s no way Apple keeps the MacMini as is with the price at $599. It’s going to go up to at least $699. (I hope they don’t push it to $799).

Sadly there is another possibility. Apple could KEEP the Mac Mini price point, but change the machine to use the same non-M chip as the macbook neo. I actually think that is a HUGE possibility, and I’m surprised there’s been no rumors to that effect thus far.

The point I’m making is that if you’re in the market for a mac mini, you might be better off buying the current M4 model than rolling the dice on whatever comes next.

Can’t wait for those new iMac colors! /s

What I DO wish they’d do color-wise is offer the Studio in space black. It would be a good differentiator from the Mini and fingerprints aren’t an issue with a desktop.

Is he talking about the redesign? I don't want an Ultra chip in a laptop given that the M5 released last year thermal throttles according to some posts.

I would love them to put the full iMac colour in the front of the iMac, along with the full colour on the keyboard/mouse with MacBook Neo style colour matched keys. A darker option, with a black screen bezel would be nice as well.

Thinking more longer term for the iMac, I think it could have a reimagining to be seen as a companion to your MacBook as well as a stand alone device. Just imagine placing your MacBook near your iMac and wirelessly it becomes a big screen to your MacBook. Pull your MacBook away and it could become a device similar to the rumoured 'HomePad' passively displaying photos, art, information in your home. And it also has the ability to be used as a normal computer when you need. Being offered in a 27inch option would be good as well but to get the cost down maybe it doesn't need an M chip, a iMac Neo if you will. If you need power, bring your MacBook.

There's a lot of innovation to be had with the iMac if Apple wants to do it. People want big screens but usually end up with crappy displays with low resolutions due to cost. Having a beautiful object to put in your home, which is relatively affordable, and effortlessly extends the display on your MacBook, but is also available to use as a computer when not, could be a huge seller imo.

This is a concern of mine as well..

I think the Mac Mini is going to get downgraded to an iPhone chip.

The Mac Mini M4 ended up being INSANE power and value for the price, and I'm sure the bean counting will involve pulling some beans out of it.

As a Mini user (iPhone, iPad, Mac), I'm used to Apple neglecting or destroying the Mini products I love.

Looking forward to seeing the next iMac and mini. Both will most likely cost $100 more, start with 512GB SSD. The mini will just be a minor update with the new M5 chip. Possible that it can launch at WWDC.

Now there is a thought. If not now then in the future with an A19Pro. Thinking historically in 2014 the Mac mini lost the quad-core option that the 2012 had, then Apple sat on the design (no changes) for four years.

If the Mini gets too good they will nerf it. The 2012 had upgradable storage and upgradable RAM. The 2014 had soldered down RAM and upgradable storage, the 2018 had upgradable RAM and soldered down storage.

CPU wise an A19Pro 12/512 would be sufficient for most things. But desktops need connectivity as in USB ports. The four ports on the M1 Mini are not enough.

Also, some of the ports being USB 2 speed ports will be fine for this Mac Mini Neo ... at least that's what I'm seeing on here.

I could very well be wrong but I don't see the Mac mini switched over to an A series chip as those only truly supports one USBc port. Or at least that is all that the A18 and A19 series supports.

Apple did get a second USBc port on the Neo at USB 2 speed even though the chip technically is not designed for that.

I'll admit, if they leave the normal Mac Mini alone (keep it on M chips) I wouldn't mind an even less expensive Mac Mini Neo to power my Plex/Server needs.
