Will they just quietly discontinue the Mac Pro or is there still anything coming? I don’t need it. I’m super happy with my Mac Studio. But I’m kind of curious how they’ll get out of the Mac Pro problem (again).

Also, some of the ports being USB 2 speed ports will be fine for this Mac Mini Neo ... at least that's what I'm seeing on here.
I know that Apple does things like this to get people to spend more dough on their next computer, but it reminds me of this comedy bit that I saw on "Shorties Watching' Shorties" by Todd Barry

“We gotta have the death penalty, 'cause prisons are like hotels."

"How are they like hotels?"

"They're like hotels 'cause they got the color TVs, man."

"Oh, like in hotels. They have to have color TVs in prison, people. Do you know how hard it is to find a black and white set these days? I don't want my tax dollars being spent to send prison officials, roaming from yard sale to yard sale looking for an old Magnavox to torture these guys with."

I picture Apple sending employees to garage sales to buy old computers in able to harvest old ports

I can see Apple possibly using the A18 Pro in the Apple TV.

It would not be much difference compared to some of the mini Windows pc's that you can get with an Intel Core or Intel N 100/300 chip

USB 3 does nothing for your typing speed. 😉

I also noted that many of the PC mini-computers (Bee-links and Geekoms) have USB 2 ports.

"Mini Computer Beelink SER5 is equipped with a variety of practical interfaces to meet the daily needs of the device link; USB3.2 x 3, USB2.0 x 1, 2.5G LAN port x 1, HDMI x 1, USB-C(Data) x 1, WIFI6 + Bluetooth 5.2; Dual band WIFI6; Bluetooth 5.2:"

16/512 for $389 on Amazon. Memory and storage both upgradable. As fast as an M5? No. Fast enough? Possibly.

The SER9 has a faster CPU and 2 USB 2 ports, 2 USB 3 ports, and a USB 4 port. 32/1 TB for $729. It has 2 NVME slots. I don't guarantee the RAM is upgradable though, physics makes that harder to do at higher clock speeds. The capacitance in the contacts does add up.

I like where you're going here.

Apple definitely needs to bring back slotted RAM & especially SSDs!

2026 ‌iMac‌ will feature a "refreshed color palette"
As long as that palette includes black bezels around a bigger screen, I'm good.

(And bad gut feeling the new Studio Display is that bigger black-bezel "iMac")

MacBook Ultra? Im surprised they didn't name it MacBook Wing Zero, since we're going for fictional sci-fi.

I miss the good old days

MacBook - Base model, value oriented
MacBook Air - More premium, oriented for users that want a thin and light experience
MacBook Pro - Most premium, oriented for enthusiasts and professionals.

Still the same man, just like in the PowerPC desktop era

iBook (MacBook Air)
PowerBook (MacBook Pro)
and an eBook for education (MacBook Neo)… we had lovely eMac but those were the days of yore when desktop ruled 🙂

I still wish they'd add an M5 Pro tier to the iMac (which would make all four USB-C ports into thunderbolt ports, and if they're feeling really generous, add an SD card slot above the headphone jack on the side).

What a strange render. My initial thought was “what, are they going to make the Studio thinner and have the option to wall mount it vertically, like the original Airport UFO?”.

Yes, I’m craving surprise and innovation. Delusional I know.

The eMac wasn’t lovely, it was a bland white soulless box compared to the funky G3 iMacs that preceded it.

Still waiting for a 30-32 inch iMac, it's long over due. C'mon Apple 🤨
They’ve just downsized the Pro Display family. Zero chance they revert that decision for the iMac.

You’ll get a few new pastel shades and a minor speed bump and be expected to say, in a Dickensian tone, “thank you very much Mister Cook sir”.

Oof why do I always want the machines that come out late in their chip’s cycle. I got a 15-inch Air as soon as they came out—with an M3 but after the 13-inch had been around for a while, and then the M4 appeared shockingly soon. Now I really want a Mac mini but it looks like they’ll be arriving 8 months or more into the M5 cycle. I wish Apple would switch to the pattern of: announce a new chip and then drop every Mac that uses it on the same day.

I'll admit, if they leave the normal Mac Mini alone (keep it on M chips) I wouldn't mind an even less expensive Mac Mini Neo to power my Plex/Server needs.
I've thought this for a while. Whilst not branded 'Neo' (I think that will always be unique to the new MacBook's identity), I can definitely see Apple introducing lower-end Mac mini with an A-series chip for $100 less. That would be incredible.

Considering how much less the Neo is compared to the Air, a MacMini Neo (8/256, 2 USB) could be $200 or more less expensive.
