What's even more wild is that Apple still sells some of these items IN STORE. I can walk into any of my local Apple stores and buy a Superdrive or a 30-pin cable right now. That is wild. I'd expect these esoteric items to only be available online, but the fact that they stock them at many or all of there stores is nuts.

Apple still not using RCS and only recently got USB-C on their phones. Why is anyone surprised this company uses archaic crap in their products?
Haha... MacRumors forum posters often take a contrarian approach, as seen in this situation where people mock Apple for continuing to sell old accessories for older products. However, if Apple chose to discontinue these accessories, complaints would likely accuse the company of forcing obsolescence and being greedy by not supporting older devices.

I still use my SuperDrive! 😁

$300 for feet for Mac Pro 🤦🏼‍♂️. Go buy the disposable aluminum solo cups and use them! $15

The stainless steel link bracelet has never perfectly matched any of the Apple Watches. It was designed to go with the original stainless steel Apple Watch, and it still matches the current-get stainless steel as well as it matched the original (i.e. not perfectly but good enough).

And hopefully they continue selling those earpods. I use those for my iPod nano, in part because they're so comfortable, and in part because they allow you to control the unit from the wire. But I find I have to replace them about once every three months because they wear out.

Bought two 30-pin cables just last year for spares. Still use them regularly, and most of my existing cables are old enough to still have the lock tabs requiring a button press to release.

I actually had to dig out my old Superdrive the other day upon finding out that my PS5 doesn't play freaking Audio CDs!

(for clarity, I plugged it into my mac, wouldn't it be wild if the PS5 recognised the Superdrive!)

Most of these products remain unchanged for a reason. They are useful as is.

Exactly. I don't see the point of this article. People have older devices and accessories sometimes need to be purchased for them. Not everyone can afford to drop hundreds or thousands on a new device. In some cases a new device might not even exist, like there's no suitable replacement for an iPod, a dedicated music player no longer is sold by Apple.

I also don't understand this obsession with the newest devices and the idea of an older (but functional device) still being sold. It's not like Apple will come to your door and give you the new M3 iPads for free as soon as they are announced. I get if you're in the market for one and you'd prefer to wait a month if something new is coming to maximize the use of your money for a device you'll be keeping for years. But like acting like it's a crime to humanity because the iPad hasn't been updated in 365 days is just absurd.

There was a tiny bit of anxiety deep in the back of my mind that someday I’d find an old burned cd with something needed on it. I can’t believe they still sell that SuperDrive but glad it’s still available.

Ha, I would buy a SuperDrive if it plays BR or even 4K disk. Not necessarily burn them.

I really wish the SuperDrive could read Blurays. I'd actually get one if it could

Beyond the Apple bubble, one can buy a not-Apple-branded drive that can read & write Blu Ray, DVD and CD. Example and another. There are dozens of models. Most of the Blu Ray ones will at least read 4K BR too.

I just used one this morning to import some CD Christmas presents. There is a rich, still competitive world of such devices just beyond the wall. “Think different.”

If it must be Apple branded, stick an Apple sticker on one and typical friends will never know you're cheating on the one & only provider of tech. ;)

Some of these I still use frequently and I don’t see the point of having them on this list 🤷🏻‍♂️. The Link bracelet for the Apple Watch is still excellent for a Series 9 (especially stainless steel Apple Watch). The EarPods whether using Lightning or 3.5mm headphone jack offers superior mic and audio quality compared to the bluetooth AirPods. And yea Mac Pro exists it was updated a 6 moths ago and they sell wheels for it 🤷🏻‍♂️. Surprise? Nothing burger.
