My Superdrive is used almost weekly and I'd immediately buy another if mine were to die. I also still use my 3.5mm Apple earbuds (though the in-ears, not the cheaper Earpods)

They have accessories specific to products launched 10 years ago, yet somehow all the leather products disappeared from stores overnight never to be seen again.

Apple really needs to clean up their lineup.
I appreciated them consolidating the macbook pro line; the next step would be dropping these items and update their desktop accessories (Magic Mouse, Trackpad and Magic Keyboard)

...maybe, when it comes to their major products - but why shouldn't they continue selling 30 pin iPhone cables, MagSafe 2 adapters etc. for as long as they have them in stock?

Ignoring the 'wheels' joke, they're all things that can get lost broken (yup, in my experience, low-profile optical drives, Apple or otherwise, count as 'consumables' - horribly unreliable things).

OK, things on the Apple store are maybe twice the price of viable 3rd party alternatives, but that is hardly newsworthy. The arguments for buying a third party alternative rather than a Superdrive haven't changed since 2012 - if anything there's less choice of known-brand alternatives. 50 versions of the same product on Amazon from sellers with randomly generated names isn't "choice" - and even familiar brands may not be who you think they are.

And, yes, it's dumb that the Magic peripherals for Mac still have Lightning - it's dumb that the Magic peripherals ever had lightning, since USB-C was already being rolled out to Macs when they launched - but its hardly a deal-breaker, and there are much better reasons to hate the Magic peripherals!

My 2012 LG BluRay drive turned out to be a much better buy than a Superdrive, but I wouldn't want to vouch for anything on the market today.

That one sounds like vegans in high places.

I have the superdrive also a floppy drive (usb) and a couple of floppies with who knows what on them

My wife has an old pod with the 30 pin and we fire it up background tunes low for company over for dinner.

My car has a proprietary iPod/iPhone cable with only the 30 pin plug, so I use the original Apple 30pin to lightning adapter cable for my iPhone. It's the only one that works (audio, controls, playlist selections and title display).
Most 3rd party versions often don't support the analogue audio pins or in worst case only do charging.

I'm afraid that when the next iPhone has USB-C, I have to shrink wrap another adapter on the cable.

This story is ridiculous. The Mac Pro wheel are needed for the current M2 Mac Pro they are selling.

I still need the 30-pin iPod connectors, wired headphones and SuperDrive. Buy from Apple when they break. Just like the old power bricks and therefore the MagSafe Converter etc. All are needed when they break, for one reason or another. Apple should continue to make and sell all of the list. I see no reason to stop.
