Maybe companies should quit overly relying on China for cheap everything. Wouldn’t be in this predicament if they didn’t sell out for a quick buck, euro, pound, etc
Good luck with with that, tell me if this is all about manufacturing, why did we put tariffs on things like coffee and bananas that we can't physically grow in this country? Why did we put tariffs on islands that literally have no human beings living on them...

I'm hoping Trump reverses himself quickly. None one will question it. Hopefully, there are enough sane people in the administration to humor him enough to make it happen. What worries me most is that if some of these tariffs go into effect, companies will see people get used to the higher prices and not lower prices if/when the tariffs are removed.
No one's coming to save us. The "sane people in the administration" are not in the administration this time. Dr. Oz is running Medicaid. A Fox News weekend host runs the entire military. An anti-vaxxer is running HHS.

There are no sane people in this administration.

Perhaps Apple can get an exemption if they agree to make changes that agree with the new administration's agenda. Stuff like removing apps about science and history from the App Store, and content on Apple TV+ and Apple News that is contrary to the agenda.

Edit: Or perhaps the incoming NSA director can have a back door into encrypted data on iCloud. That might be enough.
…and add a had coded Trump portrait on the lockscreen.

You do know Hawaii grows and ‘exports’ massive amounts of coffee and bananas, right? Hawaii is in the United States last I checked. It always puzzles me why there’s so many anti-American’s that float around on here. It’s not a partisan issue. It’s simply folks that always clap the loudest when other countries put it to the US, but when the US returns the favor, somehow it’s a horrible thing, the end is nigh, etc. There’s so many countries that already have high tariffs on the US, there’s zero issues with the US giving the same treatment back.

China no pushover. What the old school leaders cannot understand, we are not all powerful in any aspect. The rest if the world has caught up to us economically and militarily.
Economically, maybe. Militarily, absolutely not. I have trained with other countries militaries and I’m convinced that a handful motivated 4th graders with medium sized sticks could take over most countries

This is the single largest peace time tax increase in the history of the country. Tariffs are simply a form of sales tax. this huge tax increase will fall, mainly on people who can least afford it. As tariffs slow the economy, and prices rise dramatically, the answer will be clear. What will be needed is a tax cut for the upper one percent.

Overall, Apple will be just fine in the very long run. Their high margins give them some cushion. It will be a while, but they will recover as long as the country isn't plunged into a very deep depression.

No they don't:
  • Hawaii produces approximately 5 million pounds (2.3 million kg) of green coffee per year.
  • Colombia and Brazil have been the top two countries exporting coffee to the US in each year since at least 2009. The two South American nations have swapped the top spot back and forth — in 2023, Colombia led with $1.38 billion worth of coffee exported to the US compared to Brazil’s $1.35 billion

True and the WWE lady is ruining/running education. It's just incompetent people who bought their way in on loyalty to stupidity. It is important that kids learn this lesson early in life when they look at who's running society in general.

Having said all that, the true economists in the administration that Trump sent out to talk to the press looked shell-shocked. They had that thousand-mile stare and couldn't answer any questions from reporters. They were not happy campers. I think there are enough people with a reputation to protect that could talk sense into him.

To be fair - a lot of the bananas available at grocery stores in Hawai‘i are imported from South America … the locally-grown bananas were too expensive. It was literally cheaper to put bananas on a ship from Ecuador and transport them several thousand miles than it was to put them on a truck and drive them down the street. Source - I lived in Hawai‘i for several years.

Like him or dislike him, Max Tech has a good explanation of the tariff effects on Apple.

The thing I didn't realize is that a tariff is on the cost of a product for a manufacturer (not on what they sell it for).

Since Apple has huge profit margins on their products, the actual tariff amount is less than what I thought it was (still a lot).

I think Apple has the opportunity to do the funniest thing... raising prices on all their products, especially iPhones. Since most of the country buys them, this price increase will surely cause outrage on the average American consumer and cause additional pressure on Trump to cave.
