The Air won’t be going away. There won’t be a folding iPhone though. The mini enjoyers are able and willing to stand in solidarity with slab-style phone prefer-ers. Just like we intend to welcome iPhone Air fans if/when that thing gets canned.

If it were glass then it wouldn’t be able to fold.
Wider than an iPhone Max when folded, and smaller than an iPad mini when open? It sounds like the worst of both worlds.
You had said it was plastic. It is not.Doesn't matter what they call it. Whilst foldable screens have improved they ultimately still have durability issues.
The Galaxy Z Fold 7 is 8.9mm when folded. An IPhone 16 Pro Max is 8.3mm.Whenever I see folding modern phones, my first question is… “But why?”
Folding an all-glass phone in half has always been a questionable use case for me. What benefit is there to the user? Sure, you get a phone with half the footprint, but twice the thickness. Pocketability? Forget it. Even with two iPhone Airs joined with a hinge, that's more than I want to stick in my pocket, and more than I want to use on a daily basis. Bending fatigue will destroy the screen and hinge, unless Apple is going to make it two separate displays with a seamless hinge between them.
This is going to sell even less the the mini, plus and air combined.
We will see. But every indicator shows it is going to flop. Price, use cases, points of failure etc. Even the competition struggles to gain market share. What is it? Like 2% market share after 6 years. Thats bad. It will have the same fate as the VP.Haha, this is a hilarious comment if its stupidity was intentional.
No. They say it because at first people removed it and it damaged the screen or the screen got damaged easily after a while. You should not remove it. Fold phones are fragile. If it works just fine without it they probably first need to get sued into allowing people removing what looks like packaging.
I don't buy the media argument. Videos are same size as a pro max with black bezels on top and bottom. And there is probably nobody who is going to use it for work to do docs, power points etc. You’re framing it wrong. A foldable isn’t about adding new features it’s about changing the context of how you use your phone. A Pro Max may do everything, but not comfortably on a 6” screen. A foldable gives you pocketable tablet space for multitasking, media, docs, gaming, and travel without carrying a bag or a second device.
Early pricing and gen 1 quirks are normal OLED, 120Hz, titanium, 1TB, all started as premiums too. Once durability and cost mature, convenience wins. Foldables don’t need more specs than a Pro Max they just need to be more usable in more situations. That’s the value.
What fate that? Gets the m5?[…]Thats bad. It will have the same fate as the VP.
Yes exactly that. Get one or two chip upgrades and then quickly getting abandoned. VP is unofficially discontinued. Only a matter of time until its official. What fate that? Gets the m5?
I would prefer a Touch ID on the side of the phone to Face ID. A folding phone isn't for me, but I see where some people would want it. Same way some people (like me) would prefer Touch ID to Face ID.
If they can put Touch ID in this thing, they can put it in the "flagship" phone".
Yes. will continue to be supported and we’ll be here in 5 years. It’s a dying product just one more day….Yes exactly that. Get one or two chip upgrades and then quickly getting abandoned. VP is unofficially discontinued. Only a matter of time until its official.
Touch ID isn’t as good though. I often need to enter the code on my iPhone SE and on my MacBook as well because there were multiple failed unlocks in a row. It’s enough if my hands aren’t perfectly dry after I just washed them and there is a bit of moisture left. But if they aren’t perfectly clean when I’m doing yard work it will fail every single time as well. So to me Touch ID is borderline unusable on an iPhone I use when I’m out and about. If they leave Face ID in however I wouldn’t mind an additional biometric sensor.I agree that FaceID is a biggie - but you know what, i'd love if the power button the iPhone XX Pro had a touch ID built in my like the iPad mini just for times i'm not looking directly at my phone, like when my face is half on the pillow etc. I find mself entering the pin more times than is resonable.
With all do respect, you don't know what you're talking about. The inner screens are made of ultra-thin glass and yes they are able to fold hundreds of thousands of times. If it were glass then it wouldn’t be able to fold.
It doesn't matter, removing it won't void the warranty (like many conspiracy theorist types claim). The screen protector will bubble and have to be removed at some point anyway. I remove it right away because I prefer the feel of the ultra-thin glass.
