ive never been so insulted in my life with these commercials

steve would of offed someone for allowing these.

what the f' is going on at apple?

I certainly hope they weren't really pulled because they received a "bad reception." They weren't THAT bad and it was nice to Apple showing they still care about the Mac.

Shame. I liked 'em.

I hope this isn't the start of Apple listening to every armchair marketing expert on the Mac forums.

If it is then we can expect an iPhone with a ten-inch screen and a ten minute battey life, followed by a rather painful decline.

Can't blame Apple for the so-called "clueless" portrayal of some customers. Anyone who has overheard a one-to-one session would understand this.

Of course they exist. The question is whether it is a good idea to portray them as such in commercials. If anything, Apple’s devices, especially the latest versions of OS X, have become much more simple to use as opposed to competitive products. If Apple now specifically ridicules the customers that would rather get a Mac because they are easier to use, then this defeats the whole strategy Apple has built up. Having to rely on a Genius to discover features and using a Mac to make a simple video or keynote is, in my opinion, an obvious flaw in their system, or at least it is portrayed like that.

It's funny to see such an emphasis on the genious, when for instance at my country there are no such thing as Apple geniouses...

But we do have Macs, and it would make more sence to publicise Macs than their "geniouses".

Glad that they were removed. The only one that worked was the one on the plain.

Do all Apple/Mac Geniuses sleep in their shirt and lanyard?

sorry, these are horrible. i get the concept...people are used to not understanding computers and applications, and even though Macs in general are easy to use, some people don't get it and need help from a "genius" and they are "always there to help you" even though in stores they might be by app't only out in the real world they are available anytime.

yikes - u like these?

im afraid to ask what else you like :p

I'd have more respect for the brass if they'd admit it was a mediocre, Samsung-esque campaign.

These ads, along with the rumored iPad Mini, serve as glaring evidence of Steve's absence.

SMH.

Complete BS. Those were clearly meant for a long run. They know they took them down based on negative reception.

You can think that. You may be right about it but how could you state they were CLEARLY meant for the long run. You don't know this as a fact.

IMHO, Apple ads have always been art. Wether; moving, clever, funny or just brilliant. These were not. They were cheap ads that so much looked like what Microsoft would do, you have to wonder who the heck had the final say and could fly it up the flagpole to see if anyone saluted!

No, you're not, but the complainers complain louder than the cheerers cheer. ;)

I cheered a lot. I think that a lot of people don't understand that you need to view these things from the position of the general consumer. These commercials will work on them. Apple isn't making commercials for the nerds.

I bet the "genius" had the same reaction in the picture posted when they told him he had been cancelled.

The genius ads are painfully awkward to watch and the celebrity ads highlighting Siri are stupid. The celebs are talking to their phone like its a personal assistant, and Siri just doesn't work that well. Martin Scorsese can afford, and probably has, multiple real personal assistants and doesn't need this feature anyway. After the initial hype died down, I have yet to hear anyone talking to Siri on their iPhone--because its embarrassing.

Guys are we really getting this upset about some commercials and that 'Steve would never let this happen'?

Oh, there's no question. Really, this forum is filled with people to whom Apple doesn't market. They support us geeky types with their amazing APIs and whatnot, but that's all rather behind the scenes.

These ads are good, light-hearted fun. I highly doubt that they offend the majority that they are aimed at. I work with these people (outside the tech bubble) and they would be the first to agree with the characterization and feel comforted.

Please Apple, drop the "Genius" title for your shop assistants. If there's any way to make your company seem smug and self-righteous then that's the way to do it.

I'm sure Einstein would be selling iPad's if he were alive right? Just call them Apple Assistants/Helpers, whatever, if someone comes up to me in a shop and says "Hi, I'm a genius" I instantly think "tool".

Hell, we can have a thread on here to make a better commercial...who's in?

(semi-serious)

Agreed.

good. They were crap.

Apples products have always been about Elegance, beauty, simplicity.

These adverts were like the terrible adverts to come to expect from mere average companies selling junk at ten a penny. Not Apple

Previous commercials were simplistic and to the point. This is what made them effective and catchy.

These new commercials tried too hard.
