This is what planned obselesence looks like.

"New OS running like a dog on your old hardware, want to roll back? Well you cant, better buy our fancy new device for $1000 + $200 from last year for no good reason, +$300 becasue you live in Australia and we can".

Well put. And I did exactly that. I bought the new iPad Pro 10.5 before iOS 11 came out and it FLEW. As Apple says "whether you’re scrolling through pages in Safari or playing an intense 3D game, everything feels utterly smooth, fast, and immersive". But they also said "iOS 11 takes iPad to a whole new level" - yeah, a whole new level of disgust. Apple's rush to market with buggy products and operating systems, post Steve Jobs, is an utter shame. They used to be real innovators and their quality was next to none. I think I'm done. The iPhone X is bleh.

You're artificially denied from accessing your purchases by not being allowed to install the last compatible firmware.
It's absolutely time for a lawsuit. You have a product that works well then a suggested upgrade ruins it. One should be allowed to install a previous version by at least using a back-up! Also, when that upgrade prompt keeps coming up, a user should be able to click "no" and "don't show this again."

Talks of this kind of thing have been around since probably about iOS 4 days, if not earlier. And yet here we are so many years later...

Following the release of iOS 11.0.1 and iOS 11.0.2 on September 26 and October 3, respectively, Apple has stopped signing both iOS 10.3.3 and iOS 11.0, the previous versions of iOS that were available to consumers.

iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch owners who have upgraded to iOS 11.0.1, iOS 11.0.2, or iOS 11 will no longer be able to downgrade to the iOS 10.3.3 operating system.

Apple routinely stops signing older versions of software updates after new releases come out in order to encourage customers to keep their operating systems up to date.

iOS 11.0.1 and iOS 11.0.2 are now the only versions of iOS 11 that can be installed on iOS devices by the general public, but developers can download iOS 11.1, a future update that is being beta tested and will be released in the near future.
