Why would Apple release a firmware and no IPSW? Thats not right and absolutely shameful. People need to stop fellating this company and actually put the pressure on them publicly when it’s appropriate
Apple needs no one to defend them. They have an army of lawyers willing to go extreme lengths to bankrupt anyone they choose.

It was technically one week to stop signing last year as well but the difference was that they kept 17.7 available past that date. In fact, last year downgrading was available until into November.
Oh I didn't know that...but surely the signing didn't stop so quickly in the years prior? At least not from my recollection (that's worsening) of news articles on MR after I bought my 13 Mini in December 2022. Well actually, a month later, I returned the phone due to hardware issues and was forced, during the data transfer at an Apple Store, into the next iOS version with the replacement.

I guess we all wished that Apple would put some sort of expiration date on the signing instead of this irreversible and abrupt surprise.

The old IPSW release is almost always disabled a week after a new release is made available. Unlike last year where an IPSW for iOS 17.7 is available, this year only the IPSW for iOS 18.6.2 is available unless you are using an iPhone XR, iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max.

Because of the Liquid Glass visual overhaul introduced in iOS 26, the inability to downgrade to iOS 18 is more noticeable than ever. Where are those people again that hate the Apple stopped signing old version reminder articles?

Great. Now petition to Apple to stop signing old OS immediately after new release is announced, including beta releases, unless said old OS release is the last version supporting it. All the while blocking users from using their own device without the latest software with a grace period of only 24 hours.
Surely it is glorious to see your company’s latest software being used on 100% of the supported devices and Apple software is so robust and solid there’s no chance of any bug or issue being found by user.
I know bugs exist. That's why I don't usually update until x.6 on usual years. But Liquid Glass is something else!

I’m sticking with 18.7 until the dust settles and not tempted to try 26 for the time being. 18.7 is a dialed-in iOS, not noticing any glitches in general use and battery life on my 14PM is better to date than the various 14.6 versions were.

Something else to consider..

If someone has a problem with iOS 18.7, there is no option available to revert back to 18.6.2. So those on 18.7 are also stuck...

Yeah Windows Aero but on iOS, except, you can’t turn it off or change it to Windows Aero Basic, aka iOS 18 design, system wide.

It seems that you like the shining new look of Windows Aero reinvented by Apple. That’s good on you. I’ll wait quite a bit before jumping in, knowing there’s no way back now.
