I like the idea behind jailbreaking but it never satisfied me with offering other ways of securing my phone. I couldn't justify adding another attack vector to my iDevice just for the sake of a few more wallpapers or whatever it is JB's offer these days.
You think extra wallpaper is a jailbreak feature? As if changing your wallpaper needs root access...

smh

Well, seeing how my iPhone is already running American software as is any Windows or Android device, the answer is yes.
If the Chinese government really wanted to spy on you they could just release it and pretending to be based in the US.

Yeah putting software written by Chinese hackers on your phone doesn't seem to be the smartest thing. For all we know, Pangu could be composed of hackers working for the Chinese government.

And if it was American then the group could be composed of hackers working for the American government. No difference.

Xenophobia all over this thread.

Is it that hard for Apple to make the iPhone unjailbreakable?

Is it that unreasonable to want Apple to let power users install any software they want on their pocket computers (I mean phones), the same as they can on their desktop computers?

They did something to the ATV 3 which makes it unbreakable, which is why the ATV2 is more valuable on ebay. Clearly there is something they can do, but I assume they are holding back for some reason. Can anyone shed additional light (spotlight maybe...:D)

Its not that Apple TV v.3 is unjailbreakable, its just that hackers did not find enough userbase to serve to. BTW, wasnt AppleTV v.2 720p??

Perhaps not unreasonable, but more or less unrealistic.

Check out ebay. ATV 3 runs about $58 on average. ATV 2 runs $100 more. given that ATV 2 is 720 and ATV 3 is 1080, there is something going on that make the 2 demand a higher price. The answer is that is jailbroken and the 3 is not. There is a clear demand for the jailbreak in the ATV, so if it is possible on the 3, then why has it not been done?

I stand by my original comment and I think yours may be flawed. Of course, if you have some source to back up that the 3 is jailbreakable and that no one is interested, please let me know so that I can correct myself.

Thanks.

I think they're leaving money on the table. I'd pay for the privilege to unlock a "power user" mode, without the need to be a full fledged developer. It would get rid of this cat and mouse game. But "security researchers" would continue to find vulnerabilities.

The USB port on the ATV 3 doesn't connect until after the bootloader has finished loading, making it harder for jailbreakers to get the low level access they need to find somewhere they can inject their code. It doesn't mean the ATV 3 is unbreakable, it just means there's too much work to do that's not worth the small amount of demand.

Chinese hackers make money off Chinese blackmarket app stores racing to be the first on new versions of iOS on Chinese iPhones. If Apple ever introduces the App Store to the ATV 3, that's when the demand/payout might be enough to be worth the work involved.

Nice of you to ignore the fact I clearly stated that I have no idea what you need a JB for these days. I used jailbreaks way back in the day when you needed one to do anything, before the app store was even a glint in the consumer eye.

It was a silly comment ... considering we've been able to change wallpaper for years now ... so that wouldn't be a JB feature obviously.

I'm pretty sure there are more Apple TV 3 owners than Apple TV 2 owners.
I'm also pretty sure most Apple TV 3 owners want something like Plex to run on it without the hassle you have to do ATM to get it running.
So, I assume the userbase is big enough to serve to.
Maybe the Apple TV 3 is too hard to "break" somehow?

I tried to downgrade to IOS 8.4 from 8.4.1 and it has bricked my 4s. When i try to get back to 8.4.1 it brings up the error 48. Am kinda stuck now the iPhone boots shows the apple logo then it disappears. Anybody with such an experience?

Yes, but it was many version ago.

Put the phone in DFU mode, plug it into iTunes and let it do its thing.

I last used a jailbreak when iOS cost a few bucks from Apple. Not as a developer, as a consumer.

Anything is hackable/jailbreakable within minutes, if not seconds.. Especially if you can plug-in to the device/system with a cable. Hackers are breaching "highly secured" government servers and systems and you think AppleTV is secured better than them? :)

I was referring to the interest for jailbreak between iPhone community vs AppleTV community. Jailbreak users are already a very small fraction of the entire user base and AppleTV community is already tiny, almost negligible in comparison to iPhone community.
