And most importantly, to buy Apple products.

Why does Apple always portrait the pursuit of its own corporate interests as a holy mission to save mankind?
Why do all the big companies do that? Well, I guess it works. Most ironic is oil companies running ads talking about "finding alternative energy," but tech companies do what you describe the most.

I think Apple does a great job with their stores, and they improve the area. It's just a little sad to see monuments turned into them. Wish there were an alternative fate for the monuments, but what Apple does is probably best for them at this time.

I agree. Why didn't we implement your plan and use your money to pull this building from ruin? Instead, we're stuck with a restored masterpiece that is now going to be open for every member of society to enjoy, and for the non-profits to remain in. And, even worse, all those tax dollars and new businesses that are going to be generated to improve the lives and vitality of that challenged area. Why does Apple have to ruin everything? Apple, please stop grandstanding and get back in those large shopping malls. Macy's needs you too!
That's not justification in all cases. Just because Apple can provide the money doesn't mean they should be able to control public landmarks. They're not a charity; they expect to somehow gain more from it than they spend.

If it was truly a crappy landmark nobody cared about, fine, I don't really feel bad.

It went from a crappy monument no one costed to a nice one a ton of people will visit.
[doublepost=1556825599][/doublepost]Landscaping way better than the patchy grass that was there before. The park surrounding the library is much more inviting!

See the attached old pics too. YUCK

Neat store. You always expect the best in Washington D.C. Looks like a monument, rather than an Apple store.
