I look forward to all the people complaining about this giving up driving their cars (thus not using fuel that might have come from Saudi oil) and giving up use of any plastic / petrochemical-based products (which also might have come from Saudi oil). Oh no, hang on, that's the OK sort of support for SA. Carry on.

there's problems in every country. i believe its a bit wierd if you are against beliefs of other countries. then you should cut off all the business with them. you think the U.S would thrive like this if they had this isolated mentality?

It isn't weird if the concern is human rights. It becomes a fundamental moral question for many people at that point.

He or she also has a right to express their disgust at the greed being exhibited. Cool down tiger. Everyone has rights of expression.
Cool down Nancy, who has suppressed his or her right to express disgust? I am pointing out the hypocrisy

Public (park, square, …) displays of affection such as holding hands, light kissing, hugging or sitting on a partner's lap are both legal and common among partners of opposite or same sex in the EU at least. Can't speak for the US.

Of course excessive ones could lead to some get a room comments or a fine if they were really excessive and done in front of minors for example.

But not a capital punishment. And these are for actual public actions, not for a mere status or actions done in privacy of one's home.

I'm glad Tim could freely live a life with a partner in my country. Sadly, that doesn't mean everything is 100% here either.
And what do you suppose is the actual law regarding public displays of affection in the KSA? And how it applies to foreigners such as Tim Cook?

Funny enough, I'm not sure if you realize it's not uncommon or strange for men to hold hands in Muslim countries....

A place in which Tim Cook cannot even be himself legally. For a guy who likes to tout his portraits of Martin Luther King Jr and Robert Kennedy that he has in his office he sure doesn't live up to them or the ideals they expressed which he covets.
Duh. He’s running the most successful company in the world. But no, let him be himself everywhere, even if that means losing business. How smart is that!

Apple today announced that its online store will launch in Saudi Arabia in summer 2025. The online store will allow customers in the country to order Apple's full range of products directly from the company for the first time.

Apple also said that it plans to open several flagship retail stores in Saudi Arabia starting in 2026. One of the stores will be in Diriyah, a UNESCO World Heritage site located just on the outskirts of Riyadh, the capital city of Saudi Arabia.

"We're excited to be expanding here in Saudi Arabia with the launch of the Apple Store online next year, and the first of several flagship Apple Store locations starting in 2026, including an iconic store at the stunning site of Diriyah coming later," said Apple CEO Tim Cook.

Saudi Arabia already has hundreds of Apple Authorized Reseller locations, but this will be Apple's first direct retail presence in the country.

Apple also announced that it will be opening a new store in the United Arab Emirates city of Al Ain next year, expanding its retail presence there. Apple has four other stores in the country, and its online store launched there in 2011.

In both of the press releases, Apple touted its various commitments and ongoing investments in Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.

Cook spent the past few days in the United Arab Emirates, per his social media posts. He met with app developers, watched a Formula 1 race, and more.

I wonder if the Vision Pro will become popular there. The price point should not be an object, and the spatial video would make recording sports and other public events quite compelling.

This is great news! Finally, hotel rates in the US will come down from the stratosphere because the tens of thousands of the Saudi royals will no longer have to travel to the US to shop at Apple stores.

I wouldn’t ever go to any store there.
Being a Female who wants equal rights or if you are LGBTQ+ = Prison
Tickle your Friend’s Feet as a joke in Public? = Prison
Sneezing / Puking in Public? = Prison
Hugging a Friend/Family in Public? Death Penalty 🤣
But it’s okay.. you know why? Because that’s what’s coming to the country California is based off in next month when an •0range• figure returns to power.
Sorry, what?

It's the same reason why they are in China, yet there are so many human rights violation and the censorship in that country that we can refer to....

JapanApple hits the nail on the coffin; ethics be damned when it comes to business and especially so if the company is a publicly held company...
Which is exactly how it should be.

Sadly you’re right. However the conditions that are in China with the human rights impulse product popularity in profitability remains the chief reason. When I look at my dividend checks From being a stockholder in Apple. The proof is right there. The bottom line is profitability

If you're going to come up with arbitrary measures of moral values, why aren't you advocating for Apple to leave the US because the US has invaded more countries than anyone else in the last century?
Yes, because actions against your own citizens for their orientation or what they write about is the same thing as casualties in a literal war. Nice try at a whataboutism, but its not even a good one.

loling so much at this horrible take that I won't even dignify it with a response. Thank you for admitting that chopping up a reporter for reporting is, in fact, messed up though.
How is "chopping up a reporter" somehow worse than killing babies and children by the masses? Do Americans/Westerners have some sort of mental block in their head?

My knowledge of middle-eastern geopolitics is almost non-existent, and I'm no fan of capitalism-at-all-costs, but if Apple see's fit to do business there, perhaps steps are being made in the right direction? But I might be hopelessly naive and totally off-base here.
I think you’re too naive and thrusting about Timmy’s plans in those regions.

Timmy smells 👃 only one thing there: 💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰

Having helped produced textbooks that in part sell in Saudi Arabia, I know something about localization there.

These Saudis are such snowflakes. No images of women. No mention of Christian or Jewish holidays. No mention of Saudi restrictions in the books. No mention of alcohol. The list goes on and on. It pretty much guts the ability of Saudi citizens to be fully informed about almost anything outside their culture.

Yet I am pretty sure you oh so liberal Americans couldn't handle or accept a woman President.

Respecting your culture and heritage does not mean you are a "snowflake".
