This will sell out.

But it doesn't mean anything without numbers, and it's 6 months down the line you need to be looking

As someone who purchased the first generation iPhone in 2007, I will be attempting to purchase the Apple Vision Pro today. I work in the Tech sector, I’m a nerd, I consider myself an early adopter and I see the potential and future—the same way I saw the potential and future in the iPhone—which only sold 6.1 units (worldwide) back then.

AVP in 2024 is not for everyone the same way iPhone 1 wasn’t for everyone in 2007. People that are ridiculing the AVP today will probably be purchasing the tenth generation AVP 10 years from now in the year 2034.

If spending $3,500 on a MacBook Pro today sounds reasonable, then spending the equivalent of $3,500 on a matured* AVP in 2034 won’t be so bad, assuming it will be replacing the MBP for most users.

*matured ecosystem of third party apps and ten generations of visionOS and hardware innovations.
Sounds like you're trying to justify to yourself (your conscience perhaps) that you're about to spend $3,500. You do you though.

yes, you can.
Interesting (genuinely).

I must have missed this. The AVP has a proprietary connection for it's battery pack as far as I'm aware, and I've not seen any accessory announced that enables you to connect it directly to mains power.

But maybe you have inside info on an accessory that will be launched in 40 minutes. Look forward to seeing it.

Thanks for the heads-up and insight.

I am calling it now, as soon as the pre-orders are done and the VP's get shipped, a number of those who placed pre-orders will immediately put them on auction sites at double/triple the price.

To be honest, I am going to order one but am still very much on the fence. If I decide it is not for me, I most likely would resell it vs returning it because why not.

Here is the source from Apple.

The AVP is not a MBP replacement. it’s a television replacement. it’s going to revolutionize home theaters. especially when copy cat cheaper versions arrive.

Not sure why they still bother with this theatre of closing the store. There's almost nothing left of Jobs in the company so they may as well jettison this token gesture and be done with it.
I agree. Need to check an order status? Need to place a quick order for something to pickup at an Apple Store for some reason? You’re SOL until the theatrics are over. It also gives the impression their e-commerce system is so ancient that products can’t just be staged before going live.

One issue with flipping on Ebay, the face mask thing is customized by the purchaser using their iPhone. Making it a minor hassle for a third party buyer.

Also, pretty sure it's not possible to do what you are suggesting, but don't let that stop you giving it a go.
You're correct (and the other commenter was wrong) about it not being able to be plugged directly into a power outlet. It will plug into an adapter, which will plug into the power outlet.

Let's just think about this. How many Apple products with batteries cannot be used while charging? There's the mouse with the unfortunately placed port but that's it. Laptops can be used plugged in. iPhones can be used plugged in. Even Apple Watches can be used while charging. To think that the AVP cannot be used while charging/plugged in is going against basically everything Apple does with their battery powered portable products.

While I agree, it is really only a home theater replacement for people watching alone (as it stands now). If I lived alone or was in an apartment where a home theater wasn't possible, it would be a game changer.

I was going to Pre-Order this VR headset but as time has gone on and with lack of public interest, I can't be bothered tbh.

Look at this thread for example. On a Pro-Apple board and people are showing next to no interest for a new Apple device. Yes it will sell out because it's not that hard to find 100,000 people with $3500 but it may take an hour or 2 because I can't see thousands sitting on their computer atm waiting for 0500 PST.

Just feels like another VR handset to add to all the others that have come and gone.

Cool more for those that are looking forward to it :)

As a spectator in this event, it’s like waiting for the Times Square ball to drop on New Years Eve while watching it on TV in another city where it’s not even New Year’s yet, but I wish the early adopters the best!

I wonder if it will be like the Sony pulse elite handheld for the ps5, It was universally derided, it sold out and people were scrambling to get one after positive word of mouth started spreading
