This long of an update could be them beefing up the servers to handle the new Apps Store. It does not have to be turned on early but they had BETTER have the hardware in place by now. Everything would have to be reloaded and interconnected so everything had to come down at the same time.

Just a guess. I am really hopiing to see new pages with the accessories and applications in the app store. I truely think they are crazy to wait until Friday for 2.0 and have a major hardware AND software update on the same day.

The Apple Online Store and the App Store have nothing to do with each other. If anything, the iTunes Store would go down or something if they wanted to upgrade it, since the App Store will be integrated with that.

Doing a site search brings up Apple Store results... the only ones without images are iPhone related

I'm sure they do. But I agree that I wouldn't think that it would take so long. If you have everything changed before hand, simply overwrite the files. Done. Guess there is more to it than that.
