Generally in the U.S. a much worse experience than an Apple Store. Endless upsales, less knowledgeable.

Even if you order a product via the web it is often more convenient to pick it up at the store. No need to stay home for the delivery.

This is about Sweden, not the US. Telecom carriers are completely different and hardly comparable. Also home deliveries aren't really a thing, most packages are delivered to a nearby parcel station in your local grocery store where you just pick it up when you can using a code you got sent by email

Perhaps they're freeing up budget for opening a store in Göteborg instead? Swedens second largest city which is currently sans Apple stores.

🤞🤞

I haven’t visited Sweden for a few years but I liked macforum, they carried discontinued watch bands.

Why pay full price in an Apple Store when you can get big discounts at other places...
"A fool and his money are easily parted" I guess...
That's of course how it should work, but in Sweden there are no such places. Apple products has pretty much the same price regardless of outlet there.

As opposed to me driving to the store with my diesel guzzling car to pick up the phone that was delivered to the store with diesel guzzling monster container ships and diesel guzzling trucks?
The math still doesn’t work though. You can obtain multiple different items you need or want with a considerably smaller polluting footprint because you have a smaller vehicle that burns a less noxious fuel and that can take you many different places to get said items, whereas the iPhone truck’s sole purpose is to drive all over town delivering iPhones after they were already delivered to a regional warehouse. This results in more polluting vehicles on the road. But in any case, having anything and everything imaginable delivered to your doorstep still contributes to the overall social breakdown and why every young person under 30 claims to have “anxiety” about conversing with people face to face or talking on the phone. We’re becoming more like the humans depicted in WALL-E everyday except with much darker consequences.

Brick and mortar Apple stores aren't ready to die just yet - there is one in our city and the thing gets pounded all the time, I'm sure the stores generate tons of revenue still.
We have two across the street from each other in my area. Both very busy.

We can hope!
I'm still waiting for that Apple Store in Gothenburg, Sweden, absolutely!

Sure, it's easy and usually, but not always, fast delivery through Apple online store.
But sometimes it would be great to buy things fast in a store, and go in and checking out stuff.
Of course, there's other stores who sell Apple stuff, but that's not the same.

Apple has announced that its retail store at the Väla Centrum shopping mall near Helsingborg, Sweden will be permanently closed after July 13. The date was spotted by Michael Steeber, who writes a weekly newsletter about Apple retail.

Apple in January told Swedish publication Feber that it would not be renewing its lease at the mall, but it did not provide a reason for the decision. At the same time, Apple announced that it would be opening a new retail store at the Mall of Scandinavia near Stockholm this year, but it has yet to reveal a grand opening date for that location.

All in all, Apple will continue to operate three retail stores in Sweden by the end of 2024. However, customers in the Helsingborg area will now have to make around a one-hour commute to Malmö to visit Apple's nearest store in the country.

What’s weird tho is that there is no Apple Store in the city centre of Stockholm.. what other European capital does not have that??

There is no need for that because Macforum, an Apple Premium Partner has (I think) the world's biggest Apple Premium Partner Outlet/Shop in Nordstan (central Gothenburg). So Apple already has Gothenburg covered 👍

No matter where you buy an electronic device from in Sweden you get a three-year warranty. What Apple advertises is the one-year "Apple" warranty which includes free calls, support etc. Otherwise all electronic devices have to be warrantied for 3 years in any EU country :)

I have had my AirPods - bought from Apple - replaced by Macforum after 2 years, because... EU warranty requirements :)
But you really do pay for it. It’s not like Apple takes the hit when they comply. They just essentially charge you up front for the AppleCare+ that they offer elsewhere. It doesn’t cost $280* more than the US because it costs them that much to import the phones. It costs $280 more because you are buying the AppleCare+ whether you want to or not, plus any other fees and policies that it costs Apple to operate in the EU.

*$280 based on the price of a base iPhone 15, 11995 KR, conversion to USD, and a base iPhone 15 + average sales tax of 6% in the US. Price difference will obviously vary depending on models chosen and state tax.

I'm not surprised. What's the point of a brick and mortar store selling electronics like this when Apple will ship anything for free within 24 hours to even rural Scandinavia? I understand clothing stores where you might want to test out the fit but an iPhone is an iPhone no matter if you buy it online or in the store. At least online you don't have to wait in a queue.
If you have one close by, it’s very convenient for pickups, tradeins, and repairs especially if the package delivery has a spotty record for your location. A lot of people seem to also like to visit the stores as a showroom to play with Apple products. Given that it’s the store that has the most revenue per square foot, I’d say that Apple Stores still have their purpose.

Understandable with one Apple store around the corner-->Malmoe. What I don´t understand is why Gothenburg (2:nd largest city) does not have one......

Seems like you have no idea about how bad online stores are for the environment.

You don’t get 3-year warranty in Sweden, only the right to claim. Only if the device had faults from the beginning. That too, it’s the user who should prove. I got my AirPods Pro got replaced 4 times. Three times via Mac Forum and lately from Apple. The reason was Rattlegate.

Being an SMB with three employees we use the Apple Store in Täby to see, touch and sometimes discuss our purchases. Unfortunately the staff is not that knowledgeable when it comes to software development and our needs but so is Apple in general (no, we don’t need 18 core graphics but affordable extra memory would be nice, thank you very much!)
However, the purchasing experience with Apple as a SMB is horrible with CC being the only option, both online and in-store so we buy online from another reseller to get the purchase on an invoice, 14 days net, and do a bank transfer. Much cleaner from an accounting perspective. The reseller (Dustin) don’t allow custom configurations, but most combinations are available anyway.
(Yes, we have been struggling the last 5 years to get a company account with Apple to be able to buy on an invoice but failing each time. Again, the lack of knowledge from the store staff is very evident but understandable. Since we only buy one or two laptops and some phones per year I fully understand the lack of attention from Apple’s part and don’t blame them, we’re simply a too small business customer. )

What are you on about? We don't do home deliveries like at all in Northern Europe. It's always a paid extra service, with a ten dollar or more higher shipping fee.

Plus, home deliveries in Sweden are a Royal PIT*!!
Least hassle is to pick up the parcels from the boxes at the grocery store at your convenience with the PIN from the notice you got on your phone. I so hate companies only offering home deliveries requiring me to be home to wait for the delivery (they typically say delivery will be made sometime between 8AM to 7PM...).

If COVID brought any good things that is most reseller learned to offer sensible delivery options to pickup places instead of only "Företagspaket" / "Corporate parcel" (deliveries only to office reception desk requiring someone waiting between 8AM-5PM, requiring a signature).

I really understand companies selling home appliances (dishwashers, freezers etc) have their own delivery services, not relying on DHL, Postnord or the worst companies; UPS or DHL Express.
Standard DHL works fine in our rural area because they deliver to the pickup-point but DHL Express always try to deliver to your door. Buying directly from Sonos (to get the trade-in discounts) is a pain because they use DHL Express. Latest purchase required me to drive 45 km to the DHL Express terminal in Uppsala to pick up the parcel because they don't do home delivery to our area and Sonos didn't allow re-routing of the parcel through Standard DHL...

You're absolutely wrong on everything here.

1. Swedish VAT ("sales tax") is 25% and it's always baked into the retail/advertising price. You conveniently forgot to count it.

2. You can find a base iPhone 15 on Amazon.se for 9485 SEK, that's 895 USD, or 716 USD pre-tax.

3. AppleCare+ is a very high margin product.

4. If absolutely everyone is on an insurance plan, it drives down the costs per individual significantly.

5. With AppleCare+ you also pay for your own mistakes. No warranty in the EU covers you dropping and breaking it by yourself, they only cover faults in production.

6. In Finland you can buy an unlocked brand new base iPhone 15 for 650 USD pre-tax. While in the US it seems to go for around 700. There are all the same consumer protections in Finland as there are in Sweden and both are in the EU.

What’s weird tho is that there is no Apple Store in the city centre of Stockholm.. what other European capital does not have that??

Back in 2015 they bought a site-lease in Kungsträdgården with plans to replace the existing restaurant building with a flagship store. However, the city didn't accept their plans to build a larger building and they sold the lease (with the building) a couple of years ago.

If hey had their will, I think that would be one of the most spectacular Apple Stores, as the location is absolutely gorgeous.

Now the plan is to establish a store in Mall of Scandinavia, in Solna outside of Stockholm.
