Because the $200 pricing is valid for a new two year contract. I believe AT&T have the ability to see what phone your using and to extend your current contract for 2-years.

But in order to walk out without a contract you would have to buy it without a contract, which means he would pay 600 dollars.

apple will and dont go to At&t last year i got my 3g they didnt let me open it and the guy got his grubby paws on it and took off the plastic covering before i could get a screen shield to protect the virgin untouched iphone screen
