Email this to sjobs@apple.com and demand a refund. No way in hell they can 'force' you to upgrade to a family pack. I know it's only $20 but I'd still pursue based on principle alone. If anything they should be crediting you something for selling you a faulty disk..
Don't email sjobs. That's pathetic and lame and unnecessary. Now that you've made your purchase and probably opened the packaging, I'll bet it's too late to do anything. But no, they should not have "forced" you to upgrade. I'd have asked to see the store manager and complained to him. I would definitely call Apple's 800 customer service number and complain.

Pathetic, lame, unnecessary? Seriously dude, no need to be rude. A lot of people have emailed sjobs@apple.com for a lot of different problems. If someone has a problem like that at an Apple Store, it's not a bad course of action.

Yes, it is lame. It's like sending an email to b.obama@whitehouse.gov to voice your complaint about a parking ticket you unfairly received.

Taking your minor and petty complaint (no matter how valid) "straight to the top", shows immaturity and an unwillingness to work within the system. Start with the store manager. If that doesn't work, call the 1-800 customer service number. If that doesn't work, write a letter and mail it to Apple corporate. Work your way up the chain. If your complaint is reasonable and valid, it will be addressed very quickly without much effort on your part.
