If they say that the hissing is a problem and they don't exchange it for a new one I will need to return it to where I bought it from. I hope Apple gives me a better service than that since this is their fault and I don't want to become phoneless for two weeks.

actually theres no way for them to exchange it for a brand sealed new one in the box (like a new retail sales unit, sealed with accessories) because there scanners wont be able to scan the barcode and theres no manual way to do it. There iPod touches with the attachment (easy pays) can only scan and do a retail exchange for things purchased at an Apple store. Anything else i.e.: best buy, target, etc will not scan and you will have to go through the genius bar. No manager can do anything for you if you want a brand new retail unit. As there is no way for them to process it through there system so it can go back into there inventory to be returned to the warehouse like all returns do.

Same thing applies if say you bought a pair of nike's/adidas at Foot Locker or even amazon and then you want to return them at finish line or another shoe store. Doesn't work that way

but, nothing is wrong with getting it replaced through the genius bar anyway. the phone is still new its not like you're going to get a used one. Apple manufactures new phones meant to be replaced through the genius bar when a phone is brand new.

if you don't understand then sorry and if you want a retail box like you purchased it you will have to go to whoever you got it from.

OP.

Just for reference, I've never had an issue with any refurbished products from Apple.

I don't recall many, if any, threads here complaining about an issue with exchanges done at Apple Stores for any iPhones.

Maybe do a search to see if there has been an issue, but my replacements were indistinguishable from brand new.

True. Apples refurbish process with Macs and iPhones is excellent. Macs for example, go through rigorous tests and are less likely to experience issues, say with a new Mac. And the casing is also replaced as well.

Don't worry about getting a refurbished phone. In many ways they are better than the original phone. The original phone was only tested by robots at the factory before it was shipped. Re-Ferb phones are not only checked by robots but are also hand checked by humans before they are shipped, this is to ensure that they are up to Apple standards.

Hi,

Tomorrow I'll be going to an Apple Store to show my hiss-problem. Does the Apple Store replace phones bought at official Resellers? I bought my phone through an online reseller and they don't have anything in stock to replace with. I could return my phone completely but that means I won't have a phone for 2 weeks, since I sold my old phone. So does Apple actually replace defective iPhones bought in another store?

Just return it. Don't accept a hissing phone.

Is this accurate? If I was to purchase a IPhone from an apple store (once they have a stock of 7's) and there was an issue with it, would I get a NIB exchange or one that has be refurbished to like new?

if its within the 14 day return policy they should give you a NIB but thats if they have it in stock.

Two separate things.

If you bought it from Apple and you're within your 14-day return period, you can return it for a refund and buy another brand new one (assuming they have one in stock). This looks like an "exchange" since it's all done on the same transaction, but it's returning/buying another.

No matter where you buy from, Apple will give you warranty service. If they swap your phone during service, you'll get a replacement that is either remanufactured (with a new exterior, so it looks brand new) or is truly brand new.

UPDATE: I went to the Apple Store and they will be swapping my phone for a brand new one in a few days!

How can you reasonably expect a brand new sealed retail packaged device if you did not buy it at an Apple Store. Thats not how things work, anywhere.

Brand new retail packaging, or white box 'brand new'. I'm assuming the latter as the probably have to order it and thats why its taking a few days.

It will be a brand new one, they didn't have any in stock so that's why I have to wait a few days. They don't have any refurbished models since the phone is not out that long. They will even replace my screenprotector with a brand new one :). I specifically asked them and they said I will get a brand new retail package.

Okay but you are getting a brand new one in a 'white box' not a retail sealed box. Thats the difference. Just like everyone here said.

No, he said I will get one that's normally for sale. It's not a white box. It is sealed.

Oh, really? What's up with the white box tho? Are those refurbished or something?

White box replacements are Genius Bar replacements. Those are what you get if you need a replacement device. They are a mixture of remanufactured devices and new device. But you don't know what one you will get. But they are indistinguishable from each other as they both have a new housing, new battery and new screen.

I think those are the ones he told me about. He said it's too early for them to get those units, right now they replace everything with brand new retail ones. I'm from Europe and right here there's a massive shortage iPhone 7 Plusses.

No, Apple Store has white box replacements on day one for replacements devices. They are just new and not remanufactured units. But they are readily available.

Well, I don't mind, as long as I get a brand new one I'm fine :D.
