I'm planning to buy an iPad next weekend.

So, I called the Natick store yesterday to ask if I need to reserve one. The guy I talked to said the store would have something on their site next week.

Looking at the Natick store's site, though, it looks pretty similar to other Apple Store sites, and I'm thinking maybe the guy was just feeding me a line.

Any thoughts, recommendations?

Thanks in advance.

I think they are taking about The Meet Your iPad event on Friday, August 20, 2010

You’re up and running on your new iPad and ready to go further. Bring your iPad to this hands-on workshop, and we’ll show you tips and tricks, like organizing and displaying your photos in a slideshow, navigating Safari with new features, and discovering new ways to see and touch your email like never before. No, it looks like they do have a page up that will let you reserve everything by the iPad 3G, which is what I'm looking for. Typical.

Here is Apple's website for the 2010 tax holiday: http://store.apple.com/us/browse/campaigns/tax/holiday There's a link there that lets you pick your store and reserve items.

I am going call them to see if they expect to have 3G's over the weekend. Does anyone know what the availability situation is for the iPad 3G? Are they still tough to get?

You can now reserve the iPad WiFi + 3G.

I have just done it. I am arriving for a two week break in boston (from the UK) on thursday, until a few minutes ago I did not know anything about the Tax Holiday. I was going to try and get an iPad anyway. So have managed to save some money and guarantee getting one.

That's some good timing on your part.

On a whim, I checked the site before heading off to work Tuesday night and, sure enough, I was able to reserve a 64GB 3G. I can't wait until Saturday when I get to pick it up.

So can I buy it at 12: 01 AM on August 14 or I have to wait til the morning to have free tax?

online works too

Purchasing online is also an option if you can't reserve what you want....from the MA dept of revenue site:

L. Internet Sales. If a customer orders an item of eligible property over the Internet, the item is exempt if it is ordered and paid for on August 14 or 15, 2010 Eastern Daylight Time. Generally, a customer pays for an item when the seller receives a credit card number, a debit authorization, a check, or a money order. The actual delivery can occur after the holiday period. For example: a customer orders a computer over the Internet with a sales price of $2,000 and charges the sale to his credit card at 1:00 p.m. (EDT) on August 14 or 15, 2010; the computer has a delivery date of September 1, 2010. The sale is exempt since the computer was ordered and paid for during the sales tax holiday.
