The U-District is by no means "out of the way". It is significantly closer to downtown Seattle than the Bellevue store. The University Village shopping mall where the new store will be located is a very posh mall. It is accessible to both the academic crowd from the University, and to the well-to-do crowd that lives in that area; the perfect clientele for an Apple Store.
